What One Band Can Do!

Hello! 🙂

I know everybody would rather read about how things went at my sister’s wedding, but I wanted to do something special first. The music world lost another great vocalist. Chester Bennington of Linkin Park died and I have a lot of friends that I’ve been thinking about over the last week. I felt I needed to let them know that I’m always here for them!

If you read my FB post I published an hour after founding out, I was pretty much in denial about it. I’ve learned that you don’t believe anything that those “news” sites say until that person or somebody close has said something first. And it’s been a couple of weeks and I don’t think it’s sunk in yet because I still feel like it’s a cruel joke! No wonder people think that Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson are alive and hiding out somewhere!

I put on my blog’s Facebook page of what I was feeling at that moment and how much these guys have meant for me as a whole! I mean, Chester is essentially the first male screamer I ever liked, and I started listening to Linkin Park mid-2009 and if anybody remembers he was with Dead By Sunrise at the time and I remember the album came out the week after the new Backstreet Boys album and I was stunned on how much I wanted the DBS album more! I still think it’s a damn good album! This was also the year that “New Divide” came out too, it was the only new song from LP that came out that year as Chester was busy, but I loved that song! I STILL love that song!

The chemistry between Chester and Mike was awesome! I had never heard of Nu-Metal and immediately after I started listening to “Collision Course” I was pretty much done for! It was my dad’s but it became mine after like four months of being in my possession! Overtime when their music started evolve, it was like their bond got stronger! I never thought a rapper or a screamer could do EDM until these guys! I can’t imagine what Mike is feeling right now. To be able to share a stage with somebody like Chester is an honor but for them to be bandmates and how this happened, I cannot imagine what any one of them are feeling and my hearts goes out to them!

By 2010, I was using Twitter a lot more despite the fact I had it for even longer than that! Mike, Chester and Phi were the only three members who had Twitter accounts at the time! Mike and Phi would have conversations amongst each other, but Chester would rarely visit because every time he did his mentions would explode. I’m not being a stalker, he literally said it a few times!

I don’t really remember why I started following more of the fans and couldn’t even told you who was first! I remember Maryam was at University at the time of when we started talking though, because I was in and out of my depression and she tried to set me straight with a few of my life problems! I remember Alex was from Italy and she was our like matriarch of the group; everybody wanted follow her and talk with her! I really enjoyed chatting and admired her for what she was doing with her life!

One of the last that I started talking to in the beginning was Breanna, we have a long history with each other! I helped her while she was at school and needed a code to be able to go through the LP meet and greet back in 2014. I still have text messages saved of our late night conversations! She lives on the west coast and I am on the east so time zones screwed with us most nights! Stacie was another one and was the first one I ever Skyped with and I was so nervous! She even met my mom and dad too! Poor girl! Breanna got to see my dad with his beard!

I definitely remember on how I met Maddy. I love her dearly despite the fact we no longer talk to each other as much. When I first heard the news, I thought about her and then my other friend Rana. They were definitely Team Chester! My heart broke more for these two than anyone else I think! I met these next two chicks during a chat that was livestreamed on another site (thank god)! Hell I even remember the screen names they used: “ilovelpforever” was Autumn and “caroleeone” was of course Carolee. I enjoyed talking with them while we all basically lost our minds while hearing Mike talk on the screen! And then I found both Melissa and Ally randomly after I saw somebody talk about Rob and I think I just joined their whole conversation!

I made friends from all over the world! There was one girl who was from Viethnam and the closest was from the same state! It was crazy! I sent quite a few of them Christmas cards! I cannot remember how we all met but I still think of every single one of you! Antigoni, Jelena, Nevena (still love your name!), Iva, Yahaira, Stephanie, and Gilmara. It still shocks me that one band can create so many friendships at one time! You all were the reason why I got so fast on my key pad! Every time we had a chat, my toes would just drag on and on, but now they are super quick! So thank you for that and lovely memories! We’ll always be LP soldiers!

If you want to read what else I put on my status, you can check it out here!

Tune Tuesday | Switzerland ’17

17200974_1190394871070094_2385203544738160469_n

Howdy!

Today is the last day for Tune Tuesday! I hope you have enjoy this year’s worldwide lineup. I find it very fun to end it on a new country to the lineup: Switzerland! If you’re wondering why I’m not adding USA onto the list, that’s because I have something pretty fun brewing right now so you’ll have to be on the look out for that soon.

Back in February I was watching a special on our PBS channel and it was about the creations of some of the scariest stories to come out of England in the 1800’s. Mary Shelley and her husband Percy along with her stepsister Claire plus Lord Bryon and John William Polidori stayed in a villa by Lake Genova in Switzerland. The weather was awful so they had to spend their days and nights indoors, to pass time they told stories and poems. Lord Bryon basically told them all to write the scariest story they can come up with and thus Mary Shelley created parts of the first draft of “Frankenstein” while Polidori began working on his first story “Vampyre” which would be about the modern vampire of the day.

I thought it was very neat for an hour show. It’s always stayed there in the depths of my brain so I kind of told myself early on that I needed to create a Tune Tuesday of Switzerland so I could tell you about it. Now back to the music!

I had to have some help with finding some Swiss music so I put out a tweet that I was looking for anybody to help me out and I actually found a blogger who is a native of Switzerland. Solange gave me a whole list of different music which I thought was very nice and I’m hoping that’ll help me out the next time I do this! She suggested I look into a duo as I’ve gathered, they’re called Dabu Fantastic and they seem to do pop/ubran music in their native tongue which I love! They kind of remind me of a Swiss version of The Chainsmokers and I mean that in the nicest way. They’re pretty good!

The other one she gave me was a female singer Stefanie Heinzmann, like Dabu Fantastic I am not familiar with her, but there are some differences with her as she tends to have an indie-pop sound like Zella Day and Ingrid Michaelson. As I’ve managed to find on Spotify, she does her music in English and has a wonderful voice!

Are there any other music acts from Switzerland that you think I should look into? Let me know!

Tune Tuesday | Netherlands ’17

Howdy!

Today is a good day, because we are talking about the music coming out of the Netherlands! I find it so interesting that NL is such a hodgepodge of really exciting music! And I was lucky enough to find three acts that all different genres!

The first is a new band Seven Waters. They are a female fronted melodic and progressive heavy metal band, with members Robert Molenaar on drums, Maarten Vloon does keys, Henk Kamermans plays bass, Michiel Leijzer is on guitars with Karen Leijzer is the vocalist. I didn’t find them, they actually found me on Twitter and followed me back in 2014, but now they don’t follow me. I haven’t forgotten about them and usually kick myself for not talking about them on here for their native homeland.

Second is R3hab, who is a DJ that’s been around a long time, he’s been making music sine the late 90’s, been working with other Dutch DJs like Hardwell (who I mentioned in 2015) and Afrojack. He mainly plays the subgenre house. I actually have a love/hate relationship with house music in general, but I do find myself loving a lot of his music though.

Lastly is an R&B artist by the name of Natalie La Rose. I heard about her in late 2015, but didn’t find out that she was Dutch until November 2016 after the song “The Right Song” by Tiesto and Oliver Heldens. Sadly I’ve only heard her music periodically, I remember hearing “Somebody” playing on the radio for a few months before fading out but I haven’t heard anything else from since early-2016.

I’m running out of Dutch music to talk about on Tune Tuesday, if you know of any artists or bands that you think I should share on here, let me know!

Tune Tuesday | Ireland ’17

16427643_1380936678637325_5385583559404558469_n

Hi 🙂

This week we are discussing the music of Ireland!

If you are a long time reader of Got Meghan’s Blog you know how much love I have for Irish music! I think the traditional music in their native language Gaelic is very beautiful, it’s grown into one of my favorite languages of all time and I’m slowly but surely the translations and meanings of each song.

Anúna is a choral group composed by the man Michael McGlynn, It features both singers and musicians playing the music of Ireland to its earliest time. It was formed in 1987 and has a total of 17 albums and have three concerts on DVD. One of the famous Irish singers to have come out of Anúna is somebody you might’ve heard a lot on the radio back in 2015, Hozier was also apart of the group from the years 2009-2012. Several members of my favorite girl group Celtic Woman also hail from Anúna as well, like Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, Órla Fallon, Eahba McMahon, and newest member Tara McNeil as both singer and featured violinist.

The last singer I have to mention is Maria Doyle Kennady, if the name sounds familiar in some way, Maria is also an actress who appeared on The Tudors as Catherine of Aragon. I thought she was a beautiful woman to play such a fighting and religious queen in the Tudor times. Despite the fact that the real Catherine of Aragon wasn’t the typical Spanish princess. She wasn’t with dark hair and tanned skin, instead she had fair skin and amber hair! Anyways, Maria has been making music since the 1980s, performing in one band before moving onto another called The Black Velvet Band, they have only released two albums as she’s eight, but she’s still working on her newest album. She tends to have music in alternative, folk and rock.
If you know of any more Irish music that you think I should add to next year’s lineup, let me know!

Tune Tuesday | Iceland ’17

17952003_1450532141677778_8114804070898961208_n

Howdy!

I’m very excited to finally talk about a country that I’ve added to my list this year! ICELAND! I actually don’t know many Icelandic artists but I did know about one and I think once everybody hears their name, they’ll probably think “they’re from Iceland?” At least that’s what my initial thought was when I first heard about it.

I think I’ll go with the newest band first, now I know you’ve heard of these guys lately. They’ve been played on the Top 40 radio stations all over and had their song “Way Down We Go” featured on different TV shows!  Kaleo are an indie rock band from Reykjavik and consist of JJ Julius Son on both guitar and vocals, David Antonsson does backing vocals and plays the drums, Daniel Kristjansson is their bassist and to round them off is guitarist Rubin Pollock.  They’re currently on tour now until November!

Does Of Monsters & Men ring a bell? The band came about in 2010 and members Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Ragnar Þórhallsson are guitarists and who share vocalists, Brynjar Leifsson he is the lead guitarist, Kristján Páll Kristjánsson plays bass and Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson does the drums. They’ve released two albums and one live album and EP. Unfortunately I cannot find out if they are working on another album right now.

If you know of any more Icelandic music and want me to continue to list them on Tune Tuesday, please let me know!
