Book Review: “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” by Jenny Han

I think the last time I reviewed a book was back in 2016. I lost my reading mojo, even though I continued to go on YouTube and watch over 7 different booktubers on a daily basis, adding new books onto my to be read list on Goodreads. In August 2018, I decided to take a chance and bought my first contemporary, trending book out there, it was Jenny Han’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Honestly, this book has been on my TBR list for two years, and I thought it would be one of those books that I’d either never want to read or purchase it because it was a bit cheesy. Fast forward to now, I’m thankful that I talked my mom into letting me buy it! And the fact that Netflix was releasing a movie based on it, definitely didn’t hurt either!

Backstory – Taken from Goodreads

What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them…all at once?

Sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control.

I think I bought this book when the Netflix edition covers were released, because I almost didn’t recognize the title of it until I read the back of it and remembered the name “Lara Jean” so I was a bit intrigued but I also didn’t want to purchase it solely on the fact that it was going to be turned into a movie. I think I really got it for the fact that I hadn’t read anything in over two years and I made it my mission to make time for other things besides blogging throughout the week, so when I saw it, I hoped it would be enough to get me out of my funk and for like two months, it did that for me before I lost it once again. In my defense, I was an idiot and tried to read three books at the same time! Apparently I’m not that kind of a bookworm.

Overall

When I first started reading it, I wasn’t on chapter five yet, and I had already expressed to my parents how much I loved the book! I’ve been out of school, in what feels like forever, but this transported me back to my freshman year and I was seeing the similarities between what I did around all of the cute guys, except I never wrote them all letters. I only did that one and I delivered it in a full cafeteria, and how Lara Jean was around both Josh and Peter.

I think what I loved the most about her was how different or quirky as Peter describes her. I think that’s actually a perfect way to explain her to people. She is mostly a home body, likes to hang out with her family, and best friend Chris then getting drunk and/or high with the rest of the party goers. Besides all of the drama that ensues in the book, I honestly think the letters going out to the boys was the best thing for her. It got her out of comfortable shell and I think she started to learn something about herself as a person.

As far as the boys go, I was going back and forth with them. In the beginning, I was pulling for Lara Jean and Josh, but the more it continued I was really loving this “relationship” between her with Peter. I think my favorite outing between these two characters was their first one, where Peter takes her to go estate shopping at this old house. This is where you get to see Peter in a new light, he’s away from his friends and his attention isn’t on the ex-girlfriend Gen, they’re bonding throughout this little adventure. This is also the readers first glance at Lara Jean getting out of her comfort zone too.

Lastly, I need to talk about something that was added at the end of the book, and I’m not totally sure if the previous editions included them, but in my copy we get recipes of the cookies that were talked about towards the end of the book. I’ve only come across a book that had a recipe somewhere within the book and that was (weirdly enough) Duff McKagan’s autobiography It’s So Easy (and Other Lies) released in 2011. If you’d like to check out that review, you can click here, but I should say that the review was published in 2012. I wasn’t the best blogger at that time, so please ignore the many mistakes included in it, okay?

Have you read the book To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han yet? What were your thoughts about it? Which character is your favorite in the series?

Hello!

Don’t worry, I don’t plan on talking about Blondie’s pregnancy or the baby this much, but apparently I suck at planning ahead whenever I was busy doing NaNo at the same time!

Since you guys know that I will be entering the role of the “cool aunt” Megz next summer, I figured this was appropriate! Now my views of neutral prints, patterns and colors may not fit what you think as “neutral” so we’re going to be respectful of each other on this post, especially to me because I’m really new to this and I’m just going to share what I liked, okay?

To me, I think most unisex colors are like gray and black. However, I like to think there are certain pastel shades that can work well for this too, there’s a very light yellow, mint, baby blue, and even lavender. I feel like the bolder colors just automatically puts the child into a box for whatever gender they are, so in the way I went about this, I searched for grays, mint and whites apparently. Let’s just say, I will be a happy camper once we figure out what it’ll that way I get a better idea of which side to look for because this was honestly harder than I pictured it to be!

So I think we’re going to talk about the things I found on Walmart.

4 Pack Swaddle Blanket Set – Although it is not pictured above, I really liked it. I think all four blankets were cute and very unisex, as both genders can be interested in owls and stars. Personally, I liked the baby blue one with the clouds. When I was younger, I wanted to be a meteorologist. and I still enjoy looking up at the sky and the clouds, but let’s be honest here I’m really looking for aliens!

Disney Mickey Mouse Fleece Blanket – Again, I think both genders can be into Mickey Mouse or any other classic Disney character. I know if they have a boy Blondie will still try to incorporate Disney in there somewhere, and Mickey Mouse is perfect. And let’s be honest every person (or in this case: child) needs a good fleece blanket.

Going on Walmart’s website and trying to find anything for the baby was more difficult than I thought it would. It was all confusing whereas going on Target was simpler; easier to read and figure out where everything was on the page. This is the reason why I have a larger batch of things that I liked from there.

Now about the things about Target and one other item that I found on another website!

3 Pack Elephant Bibs – I thought these were really cute! I think I fell in love with these for the mint and elephant print. Some people could think that these two would be considered “boy” items but I think girls can rock a good mint every once in a while too! So I think it works too!

4 Pack Burping Cloths – Keeping with the gray and mint theme I guess, I also found this burping cloth set, they don’t match the bibs perfectly as the pattern for this are arrows instead, but I still think they’re pretty adorable too! I hadn’t heard of these before, but I do think they are handy, especially if you don’t want to keep using up dish rags all the time.

Gray Arrow Blanket = This was another one that I fell in love with, this is a gray blanket. I think it’s just a regular blanket, not fleece or anything. I think it would be better since the baby will be born in the summertime, but also Blondie tends to turn the temperature down throughout the day and night, so it might be handy to keep around.

Giraffe Sleep ‘n’ Play Suit – When I first saw this, I swore the animal on it was ducks, but it’s a giraffe. Somebody needs to tell the designers that giraffes are orange, not yellow! Anyways, I think I just gravitated towards this because of the little feet booties! Any animal faces at the feet are so cute on babies! I mean, I have cool feet myself but I can’t pull off a cute onesie for the life of me!

100% Wired Graphic Jumpsuit – I loved, loved, loved this! I have a real weakness to graphic tees myself, so finding baby versions was too cute to pass up! I thought this was cuter though because I feel like with Blondie and Brandon having one dog and four cats, this kid will be the non-fur animal in this family! Especially in the first couple of months!

2 Pack Mint and Stripes Pants – These were so sweet! They are still in the mint and gray theme I’ve got going on. I really liked this one because of the black and white striped pants.

2 Pack Gray and Stripes Pants – I did find another set of pants in gray, they’re not from the same brand or type, but I thought they were cute too! I liked the cuffs, I’ve always loved that detail. It seals out the cold from the outside, so yes, they’re a personal favorite too.

Baby’s First Halloween Bib – This was actually the first thing that popped up on the screen, plus all of the Thanksgiving and Christmas ones too! I think babies should have seasonal clothes too, as it would be nice to dress them up in but I also know that they’d probably ruin them too within the hour is up, so I thought these bibs were a better option but as I was told, the baby may not be old enough to eat solids by Halloween or even Thanksgiving, so they just need up being a cute decoration for the squirt!

Butler Bulldogs Onesie – This is my only non-Target and Walmart item. I think this baby deserves some Butler Bulldog apparel and I’d be happy to share the Butler love forward with this baby. I honestly wanted to get the baby a Butler pacifier, but they weren’t on the website when I looked but I did find both bibs and onesies instead. And weirdly enough, I picked the gray one automatically, but I think gray would look better for this post as I’ve done nothing but talk about gray on here.

I think Blondie said we might found out what the gender is sometime in February, probably around Valentine’s Day as she wants a party that surrounds a holiday, and honestly that would be easier to plan if she wants to incorporate hearts into the theme, but yes, they have an idea of when they’re going to find out and how they want to share it with everyone!

What are some colors and patterns that you think can be counted as gender neutral? What do you think of my little wishlist? Have I lost my mind already?! You can be honest there.

OOTD: Gray + Pink

Howdy!

I have been dying to do this outfit post for like three weeks! Our weather has been jacked up lately, in four days alone we got over 8 inches of rain! Thank god for my patience! On the day I wore this, my mom had mentioned like the day before that the temperature was going to be around 80 degrees and that instantly made me happy, because that meant that it should be around the upper 60’s in the morning, appose to the previous mornings of visiting my nana where it’s been so chilly! I’ve had to go back to wearing both my shawl and socks 😦

Technically the whole outfit is new, I haven’t been able to wear this shirt yet. It is just a plain gray shirt, so there’s nothing funny or cute written on it like everybody’s used to seeing me in, but it’s still nice though! My only negative note about it is the fact that the neckline is huge! It completely falls off my shoulder but that’s happened so much in my lifetime that I’m not really bothered by it anymore. My parents are a totally different story, which is the reason the pictures I have of it look halfway decent because my mom fixed the shoulder beforehand! If I remember correctly, I think the shirt was like $3.50 or around that price. I don’t remember if it was on clarence.

Now this is the part that I’ve been really excited about, because recently not only did I buy a summer dress for my sister’s Bridal Shower coming up this month, I also bought myself some new capris! I have a love/hate relationship with these types of pants mostly because I’m expecting them to cut off around my knees or at least the edges of them but majority of the time they come up to my shins. Only a small fraction of my skinny legs are exposed which is fine! The hole for legs is a little air-y but I think it makes them look fun! They actually fit me very well, they’re not pushing into my stomach or back yet, so that’s a good sign!

The main reason why I bought them were because they looked so spring-y and you know how much I love anything floral. I’m really trying to buy more bright colored clothes lately and I’m pretty sure this is a good start into the late spring or early summer season! I really love the design, the different shades of greens and pinks together. The roses are so pretty! I love the baby blue in the background color, it just catches your eye more than the pink does I think. Despite the shortness, they look very casual but yet professional looking too!

What do you think of this OOTD? Yay or nay? What is your favorite casual outfit?

OOTD: Black + Tan

Hey guys!

This is my second OOTD in the last two days, be proud of me especially since this picture was taken outside! My mom took off my jacket and I wanted to say to hell with it!

I went back to my nana’s yesterday, we had lunch and a good day! I just got permission to talk about what’s sort of going on lately. So I’m hoping I can get that up sometime soon! Saturday’s outfit consists of lots of black! I like and own a lot of it in my closet. You guys know how much my mom hates it, she wishes I had more black leggings than black shirts. I have a lot of funky, colorful leggings that goes with absolutely nothing in my closet!

Anyways, everything was bought at Wal-Mart. The shirt I’ve had for years, it’s my standard black shirt but the material feels very silky, almost like a swinsuit. My leggings are black with a tan and white Aztec/tribal print on them. You guys seem to enjoy my leggings a lot! I always get nice comments about them! I got a few for Christmas so you’ll be seeing a lot of new ones! These were actually the first present I opened that morning! They aren’t as snug as my other pants. I can breathe/eat while wearing them, but I have to say when the wind blows, it goes right into my sleeves. And yes, I’m talking from experience! Of course to round it all out, I wore my black socks to complete my casual look!

What do you think about this outfit? Yay or nay? What kind of patterns do you love the most?
