After Rent | What Live Musical Should Be Next?

Howdy!

Back in late January, I recorded the newest musical production to set live in television. FOX is the network that has been bringing the last four to us, and for this year they brought us the very beloved show “Rent” to life. I had only heard one or two things about it online and actually thought I had already missed it by a couple of weeks, but in reality I only had 10 minutes before it premiered! I like to be surprised when it comes to these types of programs, I don’t like to know too much about the story or cast beforehand so when it came on, I just hit the record button and proceeded to watch the whole thing!

Here’s what is really interesting about the whole thing, despite the fact that I said it was a “beloved,” I had never seen it before, The only thing I knew about it, was the song “Seasons Of Love” because it was a song we performed in choir when I was in middle school. It had been a long time since I had heard the song, but surprisingly I still remembered most of the words! I was pretty impressed myself!

It wasn’t until probably May that I finally got to watch the movie, because Showtime was airing it many, many times in the beginning of summer. I took advantage of the opportunity and even though, I was a bit hesitant about whether or not I would like it as much as the live version, I still wanted to learn more about the characters and of course the lyrics to the songs better!

To be honest, I still really love the live version, mostly for the fact that the audience was incorporated around the stage and cast members too! It was different and fun, it wasn’t like anything they had done before so of course I would prefer going in that direction

.For this post, I wanted to share some of my favorites or musicals that I have never seen but would like to one day, and I don’t care if it’s on Broadway or television! So, here is my list below in no particular order.

Rock Of Ages

Legally Blonde

Newsies

Fame

The Lion King

Footloose

Mamma Mia

Dreamgirls

The Wizard Of Oz

Jersey Boys

High School Musical

Mary Poppins

I feel like this is a good mix – you have some musicals that would be controversial and others that could be interesting to see with undiscovered talent. I mean, I love Vanessa Hudgens and Jordan Fisher a lot, but so far they’ve been in two of these productions,.I want to see some new faces and voices too, and I think that’s reasonable if they’re going to continue doing these shows, at least I hope they do more! .I want to see more African-Americans and disability actors on stage like this, let’s give everybody a chance to show us what they got!

Now I turn it to you, what are your thoughts about updating these musicals? Do you have one that you hope they’ll turn into a live production one day?

5 Disney Sequels I Love!

Untitled

Howdy!

I know a lot of people rarely like the Disney sequels, mostly because they usually come out whenever the children that fell in love with the original are a little older so their interest is lower and sometimes they don’t have the same actors and lose the plot line and that sort of doesn’t help either, so not a lot of people share my love for the sequels, but I’m okay with that. I tend to only love the second movie that comes out. I’ll watch the other sequels afterwards but I hardly ever like them as much. And yes, I am writing this post because of Frozen is getting a sequel itself! I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to write it though!

I tried to rate them according to keeping the theme of the original plot and voices in characters. Hope you all enjoy!

1.) Lion King II: Simba’s Pride (1998)

I can barely get through the first Lion King film in one sitting, mostly because of Mufasa’s death. I could barely watch it when I was a kid but we didn’t have the power to fast forward that whole scene in the 90’s unless you wanted to stand up against the VCR for the whole time! One of the drawbacks of having a physical disability.

I loved the fact that they gave Simba a daughter, because I felt as though it would be payback for how Simba was when he was younger. She gave him a round for his money! I was always confused though, at the last of the original you ultimately thought the cub that Nala gave birth to was a male, so when you watch this and you see that the color is more of a orange-y hue and its a female, it makes you ask “did the other one die?” Another drawback was Kovu, was he or wasn’t he Scar’s son? I thought Scar was a good villain until I saw Zira. I thought she was ruthless!

Kiara was my favorite like Nala was my favorite in the first film. I liked the name too! I think my favorite scene of all-time is when both prides meet to fight and Zira’s group get all muddy like they put on their war paint and that whole part was amazing! However, it does make me a bit sad though! I did enjoy seeing Timon and Pumba getting their hands (and hoofs) dirty again!

2.) Toy Story 2 (1999)

If you were to ask me which I preferred from the first Toy Story movie and it’s sequel, I’d probably have to choose this one! As I mentioned in my last Disney movie post, I didn’t necessarily mesh well with the first one as I do now! Now for this one, I did but I don’t know why.

I hated the fact that Woody breaks his arm and he gets put up on the shelf, it broke my heart and then to top it all off, he gets stolen after trying to rescue another toy! I loved how Buzz and the others go after him though. One of the things I really thought was interesting on how they played on a collector’s mind, he had every character and merchandise of the show; people have collections of Funko pops and My Little Pony, it’s fine to collect toys just don’t go stealing something that doesn’t belong to you!

My favorite character is Jessie, so quirky and terrified of being abandoned and the dark. Two of my greatest fears! I also loved the song by Sarah McLachlan, first off, it still makes me want to cry everytime I hear it, but it’s so beautiful and goes with that scene so well. As far as my favorite scene though, I think it’s a cross between Bullseye licking the cheese puffs off of Al’s fingers and when Woody is getting a makeover from that old man, he just reminds me of my papaw!

3.) Lady And The Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure (2001)

For these next three movies, I haven’t seen them for the last 12-14 years. They are hardly ever played on Freeform or NickJr (don’t knock it until you try it!) so I had to look into the layers of gifs to figure out what the crap they were about again!

I love Lady and The Tramp in general, I wish it was aired more on TV! I remember the second film was one of the most-watched movies I watched while I was busy recovering from having my surgeries in 2002. I loved Scamp’s rebellious phase, the opening of the movie was typical of a male puppy. At least, it became typical when Blondie and Brandon adopted Chipper! He has yet to calm down! I thought the 3 sisters were annoying though, I wish there was one of them who was at least friends with Scamp. Thank god for Angel though.

I loved the dog pound guy, but mainly because he sounded like Don Knotts. Unfortunately, since I haven’t seen it in a long time, I cannot chose a favorite scene. Sorry!

4.) The Little Mermaid II: Return To The Sea (2000)

I absolutely love this movie! Again, as I mentioned in my last post I always had  love/hate relationship with the original film because of the context. Although it has some disability undertones, I’ve never really enjoyed it. So the fact that I actually enjoyed the second was interesting.

I thought the beginning was adorable! The birth of a princess named Melody, who looked more like Prince Eric than her own mother, wanted to learn everything she could about the sea and since Ursula’s sister came to crash her big day as a baby, she never got to truly understand why her mother wanted to keep her safe and out of the water completely. What is it about these rebellious characters that I like so much?

I think my favorite scene was when she was given that necklace in the beginning and we got to see Flounder as an older fish? And have his own set of kids. It made you have many feels! I feel like that this was as close to the original as possible just backwards, instead of wanting to have feet, Melody wanted fins and in the end everybody gets their wish!

5.) Pocahontas II: Journey To The New World (1998)

I really loved the first Pocahontas, but I happen to love anything about the Native American culture, even as a kid. Sadly, I’m not as interested but I’ve discovered a few other cultures over the years, in each one the other sort of dies down. I do go in spurts though so it’s not like I hate it.

I remember when this move came out, since it was direct-to-video I think dad or somebody in our family bought it and then when I had my birthday either that year or the next, my family friends surprised us with another video of it. I’m not going to lie, we kept it in case we ever lost the other one. Sad to say, but I’m pretty sure our cat Oliver threw up all over the case so we never got to open the spare! This is another one that I haven’t seen several years, so I’m not as descriptive as I have been with the others.

Were you a fan of the many Disney sequels? If so, which ones are your favorites?

Top 5 Quotable Scenes Of Our Favorite Disney Films!

Howdy!

I am not kidding when I say that while writing this post I was listening to a playlist of my favorite Disney songs! I figured it was only right to do that! 🙂

I’ve been thinking about my favorite scenes in all of the Disney films out there! We are more into singing the songs than acting out our favorite scenes, for obvious reasons! Some of us do NOT want to embarrass ourselves whether out in public or with family around in case somebody’s got their phone and using Snapchat. As I’ve been told, once somebody busts you, it’s a bit hard to escape it afterwards, but it is perfectly fine to say the scenes while laying in bed eating popcorn, just don’t get choked!

I wanted to write out my all-time favorite scenes that I tend to say aloud without even thinking now! Unfortunately, I have screwed myself a few times in the past! So if you’re ever around me and a Disney movie is on the TV, there’s a 50/50 chance I’ll just go ahead and quote it!

1.) Zazu Singing To Scar – The Lion King (1994)

I have trouble with watching The Lion King all the way through. I have always had issues with it and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one! I mean, between this one and Tarzan I think they’re the saddest kid-friendly movies ever!

Despite rarely watching the film, I think the funny relationship between Scar and Zazu is the best! When the scene of Scar is basically eating his last meal of both Pride Rock and in general, he has poor Zazu locked away inside a decomposing ribcage of a small animal and he is just singing somberly and Scar wants him to be more cheery and then Zazu just breaks into “It’s A Small World After All” and Scar is like, “hell no!” and then they finish the last scene of the two of them with this little tune mentioned in the gif above!

2.) The White Rabbit Saying “I’m Late” – Alice In Wonderland (1951)

I am obsessed with Alice In Wonderland well, the old Disney film at least! I still haven’t seen the second of the live-remake yet! My only problem now is that I use this film to help me fall asleep at night!

I think everybody would agree that the white rabbit basically singing “I’m late” throughout the whole movie is a little annoying, because then you have the little jiggle stuck in your head either later that day or in my case because I’ll turn it on late at night, it’ll creep its way into my brain in the middle of the day and I’m pulling an Alice and humming while doing things at my nana’s house!

3.) Buzz Lightyear Meeting Woody and The Other Toys – Toy Story (1995)

Toy Story has become a new love of mine! I don’t necessarily remember being into it when I was younger, but one day in November last year, I saw it on Nick Jr–don’t knock it, that’s where I’ve found majority of my favorites again–and I’ve been addicted to it. However, I usually lose interest in it around the time Woody just knocks Buzz out of the window.

My favorite scenes starts when Woody takes his younger sister Molly downstairs and the toys suddenly awaken and start roaming around the room like normally. The first scene is of Potato Head trying to gather his facial features back into his head after Molly basically puts it into her mouth and bangs it against her crib and says “Ages 3 and up, it’s on my box! Ages 3. And. Up. I’m not supposed to be babysitting Princess Drool” it is my favorite thing to quote right out of the gate!

And then I like when Rex pulls Woody’s doodle pad over by the bottom of the crib and starts roars, Woody is not bothered and poor Rex is like, “Were you scared, tell me honestly?” and Woody being a good sport says that he was close to being scared and Rex concludes with “Oh, I’m looking for fearsome here but I just don’t feel it, I just feel I’m coming off as annoying!” I feel ya buddy!

My last quotable scene of the film is when Buzz Lightyear meets Woody and the other toys and Woody is obviously jealous of another toy on his spot on the bed and Buzz thinking he’s the Buzz Lightyear and Woody tries to tell him he’s just a toy (T-O-Y, toy as he says) and then while the toys are asking him about his gadgets and they continue to bicker Woody just says this and I liked the comeback from Potato Head “getting kind of tense, huh?” The beginning of the film has the best quotes I think!

4.) Pain and Panic – Hercules (1997)

Now like AIW Hercules is another film that I can fall asleep too and it’s one that can instantly put me to sleep too, so I hardly ever watch it for pleasure anymore because I know what’ll happen!

I believe the “scene stealers” in this film are Pain, Panic and Hermes. Everybody likes to quote both Hades and Phil the most, at least I see more memes from Hades than any other character from the movie. However, I think Pain and Panic, his little henchmen forgetting to mention that the Fates were there waiting for him and he goes into a rage and the small flame on top of his head kind of grows around his upper body and Pain and Panic basically melt into the ground and change into fat worms to show that they feel guilty about it is pretty freaking hilarious!

tumblr_n5mlpxefup1t3xmw3o1_500

5.) Tantor Refusing To Get Into The Water – Tarzan (1999)

Tarzan is another movie that I have trouble with completing, and it must have something to do with animals and death. In The Lion King only two animals die in the film, one is a beloved character by all whereas Scar is the evil brother who killed Mufasa. In this one, four animals and a pair of humans die! I mean, I think it should have had a PG-13 rating because of the amount of deaths in it!

Anyways, I believe when Tarzan and his buddies were little were probably the more hilarious scenes. They’re just having fun and learning about their surroundings, especially Tarzan! The scene where Tantor does not want to follow his mother into the swamp or whatever and he asks the question above in that high-pitched voice! I mean, we all have probably recreated this scene once or twice in our lifetimes!

If I ever figure out any more quotable moments in other Disney (which will probably happen) I will share them along in a second post! Just as a warning, I have created a fairly large list of blog post ideas and majority of them are movie related, so this will definitely not be the only film post going up this spring!

What are your favorite scenes to quote?

Movie Night Without Going To The Movies

It’s been one of those nights where every movie I like has to play all at the same time. I think I’ve had about four hours where I’ve done nothing but go back and forth to different channels. I’m not complaining really, but why do they all have to play at the same time. I’ve actually run out of movies for my dad to get me at the movie store. I have a few movies I got for Christmas, but I’ve watched them and not in a Vampire mood, there’s always a first I guess, right?

It started around five this afternoon. I started watching Blue Collar Comedy Tour and I had gotten into the first hour of it. It was on break and I was going back and forth to my music channels and I got my buttons mixed up and I clicked the numbers, 185. Which is our Hallmark channel. They were playing The Parent Trap. It was the scene where Hallie and her side planned that trick on Annie and her cabin girls. Yeah, after watching that part I couldn’t help myself so everytime one would go on break I’d switch over. I did this for about an hour.

My mom texted me saying something Metal Mania is next weekend and that Purple Rain was on. I already have the soundtrack on my iPod so I told her no, saying I was still watching The Parent Trap. I completely forgot about Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Then my movie was on break and I heard “The Beautiful Ones” I think in the living room, and I couldn’t help it. I switched over and I went back and forth between those movies. I started thinking I still can’t believe this worked when I was younger but nothing else in the 80s rock music did. Going back to when I was watching The Parent Trap that comes along with this. Everybody was at the Plaza and Meredith was talking to her parents and when she notices Hallie and her father and the whole family come up she says out loud, and I get it now of course. She says, “oh! There he is! And the whole Motley Crew.” Oh my god! Really?

So after that, I was on Twitter and I saw a trend. It was “watching The Lion King.” I thought to myself, well why is everybody trending this at one time. So I went looking when Purple Rain went to commercial. I found The Lion King on Disney. I about died. I was mad but yet happy at the same time. I didn’t have think twice, even though I was seriously considering it. I’ve been watching it ever since. I’m not moving the channel on a classic. I mean come on! If you think about changing the channel while watching this great movie, you obviously never watched these movies before. Well I’m gonna watch this movie and maybe when I get my headphones on later on tonight I’ll listen to the Purple Rain soundtrack.

Childhood Memories

My birthday is around the corner. I am excited about it, but I think I would trade it in to go back to my youngster years, meaning from 3 to about 7 years old. Then come back to reality. I miss the whole VCR era. Now that every movie has been turned into a 3D movie. The Lion King was released in 3D and Blu Ray on DVD. It’s cool but what about the rest of us? Some of us don’t have a Blu Ray player. Thank God for YouTube though!

Just looking at these cases, I’m trying to remember which movies I haven’t seen in awhile. I haven’t seen: Mulan, The Little Memraid, Bambi, Oliver & Company, Pocahontas, Toy Story, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, The Arisriocats, and Lady & The Tramp. Ihave a feeling though I will be watching them soon. I will find them. Because I need to get back into watching a Disney movie once a week. I miss my childhood movies!
