Life Lately | Hello Spring!

Howdy!

Since this is the last full week of April, I thought it was only right to blog about life.

Last week I mentioned that it’s been a whole month since I had blogged at all, and I don’t really know why I decided to do take such a long break but it happened. This year I manged to come up with three separate series, two of them are on here and the other on my blog’s Facebook page. I did a lot of work to get everything organized that I think I started to expect a lot of myself that the pressure mounted so much that I began to feel overwhelmed by everything, but once I stopped blogging for a couple of days, I just all of a sudden felt better about things and I didn’t look back.

I’d like to say I got a lot of other things done while I was on my hiatus, but I didn’t. I think the only real thing I worked on the whole time was my “name pairings” Pinterest board! I didn’t take advantage of the time off to read or anything so that’s one thing that makes me angry, because that would have been a perfect hobby to do! I didn’t even watch that very many movies or TV shows either. I was pretty much consumed by Pinterest! It’s so sad to say out loud and of course read it on here too!

One thing that I’ve been really enjoying lately is our weather. Well, technically we had a few strange days where it was producing late spring weather, where the temperatures were like in the 60-70’s and unfortunately, our new house does not have an air conditioner yet. So, for a large number of days we had to rely on opening our windows and leaving our fans on all day long just to cool down. For 4 days alone, my room’s temperature was around 78-80 degrees! At night, it was miserable because when I have my fan pointed one way, but if I wanted to lay on the other side I was hot as hell! I actually spent one day completely in a short sleeve shirt with a pair of very tight shorts. On the day I wrote this post, the temperature had calmed down so much that it was 39 degrees outside! It was also very comfortable in my room too!

A feature about our house that I am starting to really enjoy is I get to see the morning sun. I’m such a nature girl at heart, so the morning sun makes me extremely happy! Now there is one bad thing about my room. Since it’s placed so far back, I am around a lot of trees so whenever it storms, I am in a constant state of paranoia because we have some very tall trees in our backyard and we have had some limbs crash down in various places in the past. One large branch was responsible for tearing a hole in our trampoline! So, being surrounded by trees has its bad notes too.

I have been spending a lot of my time hanging out with my nephew Nolan. He’s grown so much since my last update. I have thought about creating another one, but it’ll be his birthday in about two months so I have decided to hold off until then, but I doesn’t mean I can’t share anything with you though.

Do you remember when he was like three or four months old and he was obsessed with my hands? Well, now he’s starting to fall in love with my feet! When he was around two months and he used to sit in this seat, and he would watch me get a drink and put on my blanket – I literally told him once that I would treat him how I do that. At seven months old, the little goofball learned how to put on his own blanket with his feet! He’s such a smart cookie. He loves grabbing things with his feet, and I’m surprised with myself because I figured I would be offended by the fact he was using his feet to do stuff, but I’m not. I’m just proud to see him paying that much attention to what I do because I think it’s just part of my daily life, I don’t like to think of it as a special thing, but he’s made me think about it differently now.

Whenever he was really little though, I was often upset that I wasn’t able to hold my cutie pie (my nickname for him!) the only way I was allowed to be up close with him was when mom or Blondie would bring him into my room, to take a nap on my bed. We would wrap up in fleece blankets and while he got to sleep next to me, I was making mental images of my little buddy. Now he’s somewhat mobile, since he can army crawl around I haven’t had that one-on-one time with him. Well, he recently exchanged that with giving Auntie Meggie many, many hugs! Yes, he is a big hugger! I love it. In a way, I think that makes up for the fact that I couldn’t physically hold him as a itty-bitty baby too.

Well I think I’m done for now. What is your favorite thing about spring? What is your favorite activity out of your normal routine that you like to do?

Album Review: “Unusual” by Marian Hill

27540920_1766139436764641_5691408952034562692_nToday, I will be talking about a very fun and unique duo’s second album. American artists, Jeremy Lloyd and Samantha Gongol, who make up Marian Hill have finally put out their new record, called Unusual!

The album was released on May 11th, and consists of ten songs total. I’m actually very excited but also a little nervous because I’ve only really listened to their singles, and unfortunately I never did hear Act One (2016) all the way through, but after I saw this on Spotify’s new music, I knew I wanted to hear it and review it on here!

Marian Hill is kind of known for their electronica beats, mixed in with a very chill vibe to it, and their first song off the album called “Subtle Thing” and its everything you know of MH, however, it’s a little edgier, and I really love the seductive, whisper way of Sam’s voice. Despite the fact that it has a mellow sound to it, you can still dance to it! I really like it. Second is “Differently” and this has an urban feel to it. I didn’t necessarily like the introduction, I didn’t think it meshed well together, the booping sounds with Samantha’s low voice, she was fine though. If it didn’t have that sound, I don’t think I would have had any care about it. Once the song continues, that element starts to intertwine with the rest of it, but by itself isn’t good. Next is “All Night Long” and this features Steve Davit, all three has made it into a modern jazz-y sound. That’s actually the best way to describe their music in the first place. They have a very light approach to electric music, so it honestly sounds more like a modern take to jazz and blues. I think this is the perfect track to showcase that type of subgenre, because it has that horn solo, like regular jazz music would, but it’s a totally different sound then what you’re used to hearing.

Fourth is “Don’t Miss You” and this has a darker sound, kind of sassy in a way. It has more of a pop element to it towards the end, so I really like it! Next is “Wish You Would” and to show you their quirkiness, you can hear these obsessive snapping sound and a mixture of computer sounds throughout that make a whole beat around Samantha’s words. It’s really cool.  If their song “Down” had a part two, sound wise, this would be that song! Afterwards is “Don’t Do It” and I really like Sam’s high pitched voice in the beginning of the verses, usually I don’t like it, because I think it’s too much, but I thought it was very pretty. This has another ominous, almost hip hop-y beat behind her lyrics, I can hear a small exotic taste in it too! It’s very interesting!

“Sideways” is next and finally we have a slower track. This could be the perfect song to put in a sad scene of a television show or movie. If you need something to calm you down, this is your song to listen to on those gloomy days! This will probably become a favorite of mine. We have “No Hesitation” now and and we’re back on the eccentric train with this one, but I don’t hate it. It’s not so outlandish like the other one, so it’s very mild and has a nice chill vibe. It’s good with me. Steve Davit makes another appearance with this next track, “Listening” and we have that urban feel to it, but gives me an old school pop vibe too. And lastly we have “Go Quietly” and its a straight up ballad. Yay! I love the dreamscape-y beat, it’s absolutely beautiful!

I thought this album was really great! I’m always to listen to different kinds of music, because I don’t want to hear the same stuff over and over again, and I think with Marian Hill, since they’re so out there, as they don’t necessarily fit the general pop and electric dance music standards, they are really unusual to what we’re used to hearing on the radio on a daily basis! You kind of have to train your mind to look beyond your normal tastes, and see for the smoothness of the music!

Have you listened to Marian Hill’s second album yet? If you have, what were your favorite(s) so far? Let me know below!

OOTD: Black + White

Howdy!

Today I have a new outfit post for you! I originally wanted these pictures to be taken outside but since my dad helped bring me inside that day, I never got the chance to ask mom to do them over again. And there’s no point in asking dad because he doesn’t necessarily get it, so in ways we have to be grateful that my mom decided to do this while we waited for the doctor to see me!

On Friday, I decided to pick out something in my closet that I have yet to share with you guys. The top is actually the last of the clothes I bought back in February! I tried to talk my mom into wearing her shirt too since she bought the same one, so we could be twins but she voted against that. The shirt is long sleeves, which probably wasn’t the best thing to wear out in the month of June without a cloud in the sky. It sort of has a jersey style to it as the arms and around the upper part of the chest is all black while the rest is white.

The only design on it is a giant black skull with hearts as eyes on the front. Yes, that was the whole reason why I bought it. However, that wasn’t my mom’s reason, she purchased it because it was comfortable! It’s pretty soft to the touch, if you sweat in it the feel of it is annoying but it’s cotton. What I find interesting is that the upper half I explained is in like a deep black whereas the skull itself is like fading into a dark gray, I don’t know why both sections are two different colors, but as long as I have a few more shots to wear it out in public I’m fine. I’ll just have to wait until mid-September to wear it again.

My leggings were part of another outfit I had back in 2014 or ’15, I get confused of which year it was given to me, but I do remember getting it on Christmas Day along with another outfit that was similar to it. One was purple with sequins and the other was zebra print. Unfortunately the tops were too small for my arms because it had the shirt and small jacket attached to each other, so getting it off and on was difficult for us. So I mostly just wear the pants now! I’ve outgrown the purple pair and I’m pretty sure this was the last time I’ll be able to wear these as they were very tight around my waist and stomach.

Despite the tightness, they are very nice to wear. It would be easier to wear them while I’m not moving the push chair by myself. They are very slippery as my parents call them. I generally like that material but it does have its drawbacks with the “silky” texture and the different temperatures just go right through it; they’re the worst to wear in the winter because you feel the cold breeze very easily and if you are sitting out in the sun for a few minutes, the heat just goes right into your thighs and you feel like you’re melting! I like them, but as you can see they’re not a favorite among my parents!

What do you think of this outfit of the day? Yay or nay?

OOTD: Spring Dress!

18386789_10202903824154709_1940584092_n

Howdy!

Today’s post is about what I wore to my sister’s bridal shower last weekend! As you can see, I wore a dress!

I wanted to get something nice to wear at Blondie’s bridal shower and for some odd reason I just wanted to wear a dress. I have one in my closet but I haven’t tried it on since 2015 so I was unsure if it was going to fit and I didn’t want to wait until the last minute to see, so I had mysteriously committed myself to wearing a dress! One day we were at Walmart and we were looking around and they had a small amount of casual dresses in the store, but we had found these three different colored lace-y dresses and I was kind of into them, but I was still second guessing myself.

As I’ve mentioned in the past I have a lot of insecurity issues with different areas, mainly with my stomach and arms. I’m not considered skinny around my stomach and waist, sometimes I get down about that because I know I can’t say it’s muscle like I do with my butt, so I have a hard time feeling beautiful in my skin. The one place that tends to really bother me the most are my arms. They’re just there and get in the way of my tops that have pretty designs in the front.

We were in the food department and I kept thinking about them. So I talked my mom into taking me back to where they were and she and I agreed on buying the black one although I had seriously considered the baby blue instead! It came with a nice light brown belt that I really liked! The dress reminds me of like Spanish inspired, because of the neckline and ruffles of the sleeves. I really like the lace-y texture of course! I wasn’t really into the pink throughout, but I am slowly coming around to the color in general now! It has some baby blue flowers in there too – I just really loved it!

One of our concerns was obviously the shoulders, I can never find anything that will actually stay up on my right shoulder. So my mom had the idea for placing a safety pin on the back to help it from falling down. I absolutely hate safety pins! They make me feel uneasy and I always feel like it’s going to undo and poke me, and I do not want to do that anywhere around my back. So she thought about tying the clear straps that you put on your hanger together and hoping that it would be enough to keep it up and surprisingly it worked and I was very happy about that!

I wasn’t going to mention this, but figured I probably should. Since I was going to be around a lot of people and ended up participating in the shower quite a bit, my mom put me in a pair of shorts. I mostly kept my feet somewhat leveled but it was something that I just felt I needed to do so I wasn’t worried on how much I moved around. I also wore my “M” necklace with it, because my other one wouldn’t undo for us and I would love to wear it again, not exactly sure if it would go with the dress itself but you know! You might see it in a coming up post as my dad fixed it for us! As for my hair, my mom had half of it in a small clip, she thought I looked very elegant! While my nana thought I looked like a little doll!

So what do you think of my outfit? Yay or nay? When was the last time you wore like a cute and fun dress?

OOTD: Faux Blue Jeans!

Happy Monday!

Yesterday on Twitter I made the announcement that I wasn’t going to post this today because I wasn’t feeling good but then later on I realized that on Saturday I celebrated 6 years of blogging on here and I had no post for it… Even I’m a little disappointed with myself!

Last Friday, my mom and I took a trip to see my nana. I hadn’t been able to hang out with her like one-on-one since the end of April, so we’ve been needing some time to chitchat. It was a lovely visit with even better weather! So I was able to do another OOTD but since I’ve stopped publishing on the weekends, you’ve had to wait a bit to see my outfit! In my last one, I mentioned that I had another pair of capris to show off and earlier in the week I went back to Walmart and purchased two shirts this time!

I’ll go from top to bottom. I got another superhero shirt! It is gray with various different superheros on the front with the word “Marvel” in big, bold, white letters that you cannot see thanks to my arms! I think I just buy these hoping to have at least one X-Men on it, but I don’t think I got lucky here. Honestly, the only ones I recognize on the entire shirt is Iron Man and Thor. I was really struggling to figure them out, there was no asking my mom. Apparently she can’t tell between “green” and “yellow”! Oh, in case anybody’s counting, this is my third Marvel shirt!

Now about my pants! The day we found these, I was a bit dumbfounded because I’ve had leggings that looked like jeans before. They were tight and the pattern was made so it looked like they’ve been worn forever and you had torn it to pieces! The difference was it was easy to put on and remove which is great for any wheelchair user! Unfortunately, they did have one downfall, the material use was rough and I didn’t actually wear them very much!

These are completely and 100% different as they are smooth to the touch on both top and underneath! They sort of remind me of “basketball pants” as my mom and I called them back in the day! They are sleek and soft, which is awesome for my legs! They retain heat just like regular jeans! They look like jeans and that’s what seems to freak my mom and I out, like where were these when I was in middle school?! My only negative thought about it is they are not skinny on my calves but hopefully I’ll find some others that are snug around that area!

What do you think of my outfit of the day? Yay or nay? What do you think of faux clothing garments, like jeans? Do you think they can become a thing?

OOTD: Gray + Pink

18386789_10202903824154709_1940584092_n

Howdy!

I have been dying to do this outfit post for like three weeks! Our weather has been jacked up lately, in four days alone we got over 8 inches of rain! Thank god for my patience! On the day I wore this, my mom had mentioned like the day before that the temperature was going to be around 80 degrees and that instantly made me happy, because that meant that it should be around the upper 60’s in the morning, appose to the previous mornings of visiting my nana where it’s been so chilly! I’ve had to go back to wearing both my shawl and socks 😦

Technically the whole outfit is new, I haven’t been able to wear this shirt yet. It is just a plain gray shirt, so there’s nothing funny or cute written on it like everybody’s used to seeing me in, but it’s still nice though! My only negative note about it is the fact that the neckline is huge! It completely falls off my shoulder but that’s happened so much in my lifetime that I’m not really bothered by it anymore. My parents are a totally different story, which is the reason the pictures I have of it look halfway decent because my mom fixed the shoulder beforehand! If I remember correctly, I think the shirt was like $3.50 or around that price. I don’t remember if it was on clarence.

Now this is the part that I’ve been really excited about, because recently not only did I buy a summer dress for my sister’s Bridal Shower coming up this month, I also bought myself some new capris! I have a love/hate relationship with these types of pants mostly because I’m expecting them to cut off around my knees or at least the edges of them but majority of the time they come up to my shins. Only a small fraction of my skinny legs are exposed which is fine! The hole for legs is a little air-y but I think it makes them look fun! They actually fit me very well, they’re not pushing into my stomach or back yet, so that’s a good sign!

The main reason why I bought them were because they looked so spring-y and you know how much I love anything floral. I’m really trying to buy more bright colored clothes lately and I’m pretty sure this is a good start into the late spring or early summer season! I really love the design, the different shades of greens and pinks together. The roses are so pretty! I love the baby blue in the background color, it just catches your eye more than the pink does I think. Despite the shortness, they look very casual but yet professional looking too!

What do you think of this OOTD? Yay or nay? What is your favorite casual outfit?

Nana’s Birthday Fun!

Hi 🙂

It’s been a while since I’ve actually done a big family weekend post! I’ve been wanting to keep some things private, since my papaw’s passing I’ve been really cherishing the time with them and usually we’re not even taking pictures of what we’ve been doing, so that’s the other reason why you haven’t seen a lot lately!

My cousin Taylor and his mom, my Aunt Laurie have spring break the last week of March, where it goes into April. This has always been such a blessing because my nana’s birthday is during the first few days of the month so they get to come down without having to worry about going back to work two days later! They came down without Mike, because he still had to work and that part sucked! They also brought their dog Mila, she’s a lab/German Shepard mix if I haven’t said that yet! I don’t think I have though! She’s such a sweetie and since my aunt and uncle are deaf, she has to be very alert to know what they are saying, and yes she does know sign language. It’s so cute!

They came down on Saturday afternoon, they enjoyed their alone time with my nana. Poor Laurie and Taylor were put to work after a bit after they got there I think. The last time they came down, everybody brought down like 10 drawers from upstairs and throughout both February and March, my nana and I have been slowly getting through them. For the most part, we cleared out I think five big drawers and a smaller one. I moved them into papaw’s room as she finished each one so we had more room to move around in the living room. Thankfully, I had physical therapy in the last two months so my strength was back in full force and I could lift these without having back and neck problems!

I had them folded on their sides and stacked on top of each other in my papaw’s room! I had never left more like Supergirl until I did this! They were heavy, but not as we expected them to be! So when Laurie arrived, she had Taylor carry them back upstairs and now we only have two left and that is mostly DAR and genealogy stuff! Other than that, the living room is as good as new!

On Sunday, my nana had some extra guests come over. She basically had everybody in her family come down, as Rick and Linda were down on Saturday for lunch! David, Katt, my cousin Kristi came down as a surprise, they’re really good at that! Kristi came bearing her almost three-month old “baby” boy Joseph! My nana has been dying to meet this little guy, along the rest of us too! I didn’t know she had come down with them until I was in the car with Blondie, Brandon and Chipper in the McDonald’s drive thru! Unfortunately I can’t hold babies, it really sucks but since he was like under 20 pounds, my thighs are okay with it!

I have asked Kristi if I could share a picture of him, and she said yes, so you guys get to meet the little ham!

We didn’t stay very long as my mom had to work that weekend so when she finally came over, she was very tired and I think only stayed over less than an hour! It was okay since we came back the next day, but David, Katt, Kristi and little Joe went home that afternoon!

On Monday, it was somewhat of a blur, especially in my mind! That’s the one bad thing about family gatherings, is that sometimes my conscience goes in and out, so I tend to forget things that went on if it’s longer than two days! I do remember taking lots of pictures, I will have two DIY projects coming soon! One is a combination of Easter/spring, but the other was somewhat of a surprise. It was more of my nana’s idea, she originally wanted video of it but I figured it would be more than a minute so we compromised and I will blog it instead! I think you guys will like it!

The whole weekend we were expected to get some bad storms, but they kept going to the next day and the next. Our weather is very bipolar here in the Midwest! Since we never got the storms, we went outside a couple of times. I tried to take pictures but it was very bright and I don’t do enough roaming around on the sidewalk that I didn’t feel safe moving a lot plus the bottom of my foot didn’t like the feel of the concrete, so I only managed to get one picture before heading back inside! My mom and Aunt Laurie put up her new bird feeder that Uncle Mike made for her! It’s very cool, unfortunately I do not have a tutorial for that, sorry!

And then finally on Tuesday, we did something that we don’t normally do! In our hometown, there’s a new restaurant called Cakes & Coffee Cafe and they always have their specials of the day hanging outside the building and so whenever my mom and I drive by we always look at their specials! It’s become our thing now! We finally went there to eat and check it out and I was very happy!

The building was a bank for decades before it laid empty for most of my childhood. We moved into the area when I was like six years old and we’ve also driven past it and it looks so modern up against these older buildings, that have been there since the town was established in the early 1800s! It was now owned by a family friend Randy. I always thought it would be smaller once inside, because it just sort of gives you that illusion that it would have a small interior.

Once you walk in, the amount of space grabs you and then you look around at all of the back and white pictures of how the town used to look like was intoxicating! It was like a mini museum and I couldn’t get enough! We have a well-known celebrity that was born and raised here and it is baseball legend Gil Hodges; there were pictures and a huge plaster head of him hanging above a doorway, but the main attraction is the vault. They still have that little room and the giant door! The space and walls have become a place where you can write your name on! So before we all left, we signed it and my nana had a ball! We even got our pictures done in the actual vault!

This was what I got, just your normal biscuits and gravy with a little cup of fresh fruit! I made the mistake of not asking for a kid’s cup for my drink beforehand because when it arrived to our table, we all looked at like “uh oh!” but surprisingly I could reach it but next time, we’ll be asking for a small cup!

17799411_10202749053285534_7101799147659453657_n

My nana aka “the birthday girl” got the special of the day which was Turkey Manhattan. She let me have a bite of it and it was good! My mom and Aunt Laurie got a chicken salad on a croissant, like a real croissant! They ordered German potato salad as their side! Taylor went in the same route as I did and got breakfast too. He got pancakes and managed to finish his before any of us! That’s a growing boy for you!

17800328_10202749053325535_6680794072063373822_n

After we got back to the house, it was time for cake and my Aunt Laurie made a chocolate cake with rainbow sprinkles! Everybody had a small slice of cake and I obviously was too full from my meal because I didn’t eat very much of my piece. I didn’t even have any ice cream!

One of the last things we did was play a couple of rounds of UNO. I have owed my cousin Taylor two rounds of it since November and I managed to win twice but when Laurie joined, she won the next one and then my nana played the last game and Laurie won again! My poor nana still doesn’t know the symbols on the cards, and can barely figure out the colors so she made it kind of interesting and hilarious for all of us! I’m still shocked that I won at all! I literally never win at UNO! I think Taylor was probably surprised too!

I think it was a good weekend with my family! Apparently so good that Tuesday night I crashed so hard that I laid on one side of my bed for six hours straight! And then when my mom woke me up before she went to work the next morning, she gave me another muscle relaxer and I crashed again, waking up at 12:35pm, but I didn’t care!

I apologize for the pictures below, my mom’s camera has been making them kind of grainy in a strange way!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun and exciting?!
