Blogmas | Our Advent Calendars

Hello!

Even though I am an American, I thoroughly enjoy advent calendars! I like the fact that every day you get a little something to do or eat, depending on your preferred calendar!

What is an Advent Calendar?

An advent calendar is a special way to countdown to Christmas. It is originally celebrated and made with candles and wreaths in Germany, but as with everything in the modern world, it exploded into the mainstream, and we’ve added candy to the mix.

I think I was introduced to them around 2014. It would have been the first time I’d watch Zoe Sugg’s vlogmas on YouTube. Honestly, by that time I had been introduced to the bulk of the blogging community, so they could have helped me along the way as well. Anyways, I thought it was an interesting way to get ready for the holiday festivities.

Afterwards, my nana received a simple advent calendar from one of the charities she supports, and they sent a naked tree, and your job was to decorate the scene from the first of December to Christmas day. She would put it up on the refrigerator and anytime I came over to visit, it would be the first thing I’d do, but on the days when I didn’t, my nana would say papaw did it for me and that sounds like something he’d do. I think the longer we did it, he started to enjoy it just as much too!

The day I wrote this post, this picture popped up on my Facebook Memories and I’ve never been happier!

Fast forward to 2021, I wanted to get my own advent calendar. It had been some time since I did one and I thought it was time to bring it back. I had also hoped I could persuade my parents to do it with me, and within four days they became as excited as I was on what would be inside the little envelopes. I managed to find a very affordable Harry Potter calendar that opens up like a giant book and considering neither one of my parents know anything about Harry Potter, I think they enjoyed learning more about it through the various memorabilia. and they definitely understand my love for everything Harry Potter now.

Our 2022 Advent Calendar!

I can’t deny to you, I’ve been searching for this year’s advent calendar since May, and I feel absolutely no shame for it either.

Originally, I wanted to get either a calendar dedicated to puzzles or socks. I watched Alexandra Roselyn on YouTube last year and she had two different calendars, one for tea and the other was for jigsaw puzzles. I was kind of curious about whether I’d have enough patience to do a puzzle with my parents, and honestly, I doubt they’d last long with it. Now, about the socks, my mom has a lot of various socks and I point them out to her all of the time because they rarely go with her outfits or seasons, so I figured this would be a winner for us but the prices for these kinds of calendars can be expensive. When I looked through Amazon back in August, the prices stayed around $40 and as much as I knew we’d have fun and get use out of them, I just didn’t believe at the time it was worth it.

I actually told my mom about the sock advent calendar, and she was very stunned, and told me next year we need to get one together… I told you, she likes her socks!

Anyways, my mom ended up finding this year’s advent calendars. The first is a red box with little holiday scene and you have to look for whatever day(s) you are on and your job is to break the cardboard door to find a little treasure. A mini ornament. When my mom took these pictures below, we had missed the first two days, so we have a set of golden bells with a red bow in the middle of them, and a little snowman decorated with mittens, a scarf and Santa hat on top. We really love this calendar the most, it is absolutely adorable and since my Christmas tree is on a medium size, it is better to decorate it with mini ornaments so these prizes will be very well-loved with me once we are finished with it.

In each photo of the calendars, I’ve included the link, so if you’d like to purchase or put them in a folder for next year’s Christmas season you can.

For the second calendar, my mom thought this would be an interesting because we both enjoy watching crime dramas–she’s currently on a Scandal kick whereas I am watching FBI. The crimes you get to try and solve are based on Sir Arthur Cohen Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, it is all with a British theme, which isn’t quite ideal, I’ve had to help mom as she didn’t understand some of the names and phrases. The “crimes” themselves are mostly rated PG. This calendar is set up like one of those calendars you flip over to the next and it just sits on your desk. As you’ve might’ve guessed, this isn’t our favorite, but it’s still technically early so we’ll really see if we change our tune after Christmas.

Maybe next year I can do a little list of advent calendars that seem like they could be fun to do with your family. It would also be nice to give you something around a reasonable budget too! If this is something you would like to see in next year’s Blogmas content, please let me know down in the comments.

Are you and your family doing an advent calendar this year? If so, what is the theme behind it? If you’ve done an advent calendar since you were young, what do you look for when you go to purchase them?

Howdy!

My nana found this letter as she was going through her things back at the house in February. It was in the large stack of papers of things she couldn’t part with, and I decided to take pictures of it in case I wanted to use it for this year’s blogmas. The date on it says “1997” which means I was roughly six or seven years old and probably in first grade, so I was only starting to write with my feet. We weren’t taught how to do cursive until second grade and as you will see, my foot-writing is less than impressive to what I’m known to do now.

We had an old home video of our Christmases, and there was a tape that showed my reaction when I was probably four or five years old. I was obsessed with Barney. I remember I got like 4 things that had Barney on it. So I had a lamp, two different sized stuffed Barneys, and a blanket. This had to be the same Christmas, Blondie and I were given this soft lounge chair; it was of Simba and I imagine we fought like crazy to sit in it because somebody had to get another one. It wasn’t of Simba or any other Disney character, but it was still in the animal category. We had those well into our preteens actually!

Another thing I was obsessed with, were the Olsen twins. It was absolutely insane! I know I’ve already written a post about how bad it was, but it’s nice to know that this letter proves how much I loved them! Funnily enough, three years later it was all about Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Once I hit a certain point, my ultimate favorite gift to receive were CDs. It was on my list every year, even after I got into using my iPod, I would still ask for physical CDs and gift cards if they were going to Walmart to purchase the records. What really gets me is the middle of the suggestions is “scissors to cut paper”. First of all I was never allowed to use the scissors, hell I cannot use them because of the placements of my toes. So the fact that my mom didn’t even try to talk me out of it, is actually pretty hilarious!

If you’ve ever read a child’s letter to Santa Claus, one thing you’ll notice is that they never want to add clothes and tend to get pretty ticked off if Santa brings them any, but once we get older, our directions change. For girls, we do look forward to receiving clothes, we’re just praying that “Santa” picks us something that we generally like and nothing that “he’d” like to see us in. I think one of my favorites to get now are socks! I really enjoy fuzzy socks, they’re a little quirky but soft and easy to put on by myself! Leggings are fun to give as a gift, but I feel like whoever decides to get me another pair, needs to take a look into my closet to see what all matches the shirts before they make their decision. I have so many leggings that hardly go with any of my tops.

A few weeks ago, I posted a question on my personal Facebook page about what they used to ask Santa Claus for when they were children and now that they’re older, what they’re asking for now. I wanted to share some of my favorites with you! Some of the responses that answered for when they were younger were a pony, easy bake oven, video games, baby dolls and action figures. Now they want a day spent around with family, cooking pans, loyalty (which I thought was interesting!) experiences and something we’ve already discussed: socks! Apparently I’m not alone in my love of them.

Do you remember anything you wanted to get from Santa Claus when you were a kid? What would you like from Santa now that you’re older?

OOTD: Orange Skulls

Untitled

Howdy!

One half of this post was meant to go up last Saturday, but I wasn’t anywhere near my laptop, so I’ve had to combine them. Hey! At least I remembered to ask members of my family to take my pictures for me!

Our weather got super cold by Friday morning! When I woke up that morning the temp in my room was between 66-67 degrees! I was covered up in my blanket like a freaking cocoon it was so cold! Since it’ll only get colder outside I’m back to wearing both socks and long sleeve shirts! The outfit on the left side was from Friday, I was covered in skulls and I loved it! You’ve seen the leggings before, but the hoodie is new! My parents went to Wal-Mart a few days before this picture was taken and they came home with this shirt. My mom loves the fact that it has a hood on it! I love it for two things: It has an Aztec design of a skull on the front and it’s so big that you can see it through my hands! Hot damn! I wore it all day long, everywhere I went was pretty chilly and the whole outfit kept me warm.

Saturday, my Aunt Laurie and my nana got to dress me. My outfit for that day was on the right side. I wore my favorite cat face leggings! The pants in general are white but some of the cats have black, gray, turquoise, pink, lavender, and/or neon orange as the secondary colors! My shirt is from Rue21 and it’s technically a hand-me-down from my own sister! I have to say I love getting her old clothes though. For one she has a great sense of style and for the first week I get to smell like her! I really like this blouse. I love the short sleeves and the button in the front. It actually fits me pretty well, as far the right shoulder, ALL of my shoulders do that! That’s what happens with Arthrogryposis people. Our shoulders are so small that sometimes necklines of shirts just slide down easier than they with normal sized shoulders. Everybody should be happy that it only happens to one of them instead of both! It’s happened so much that I honestly don’t care about it anymore!

Which outfit do you like the most?
