Top 40 Halloween Baby Names!

Howdy!

It is finally October, so it is perfectly fine for me to talk about this subject out loud, but let’s be honest, I’ve been talking about fall since the beginning of summer! When it comes to this post in general, I’ve had to keep it hidden so people wouldn’t think I was that kook-y, but my family members knew its appearance was coming soon.

This will be in the same format as my post about the possible names of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could name their little one. Unfortunately, I was somewhat wrong with my picks but I did get one part right, their baby boy is named after Prince Harry, just not with a name that I expected at the time, but now I really like it and everything fits well, as it’s both American and British worthy! Anyways, I will talk about eight different names from both sexes and explain why I believe each one could work for all seasons!

I think I might have went a little overzealous with this picture, but in my defense, I had a lot more names that I could have included but I decided that would be too much for me. A lot of these names are full-on Halloween themed, whereas some are not, and they are very subtle to the point where you can hide the meaning behind it. I wanted to respect everybody’s point of view with the ones I’ve selected.

Now, as I’ve successfully put this banner on here, and considering how careful I was on how everybody was straight from top to bottom, I have already found a mistake. If I hadn’t put four fairly large sections I would actually attempt to fix it, but there’s nothing I can do so if you spot it, please have a little laugh on me!

Here are the 16 names that I thought deserved a little loving, and maybe they’ll be an inspiration to you and your partner to give to your newly witch or goblin.

Abigail Rose – I think the name “Abigail” is a beautiful name. It is a very timeless, but if you are familiar with the account of the Salem Witch Trails in the 1600’s, then you might remember that one of the first people to accuse a person for being a witch was a young girl by the name of Abigail Williams. Whether or not you believe in witchcraft or if she was making it up, the name is a beautiful example of having a spooky disguise as it is still classy and elegant but there’s this little hint of history within it too.

Daphne Grace – You might not think of this as a Halloween-ish type of name, but I do. I grew up watching the Scooby-doo cartoons and out of all of the names featured on the show, this was my only favorite. I have never liked the nickname Freddie for Frederick so that is why I didn’t include it on the boys side either. Since the show was created in the late 1960’s, it still has that hippie flare that some people might enjoy.

Ingrid Alexandra – This one was inspired the character Ingrid from Witches Of East End and yes, that was one of the reasons why I also put Freya on there too, but there was a character on The Originals with that same name, but they were all witches on their shows. The other reason why I chose to use it here was because everytime I think or hear of the name Ingrid, I immediately think of the color green. I would love to read up on auras and what they mean, especially if they can appear on words or baby names, because this happens a lot and I’m always at a loss to explain the reasoning for it.

Marnie Olivia – I actually worked on the banner above back in spring, but I had switch it out purely because I forgot to put “Marnie” on the list! I think it is an important name to this post because nobody would know it was a Halloween inspired name unless they have all of the Halloweentown films growing up! I have added “Agatha” to the girl’s side too, but I think this is a quirky name to give a little girl for the witch-y vibes!

Nercissa Louise – It was so difficult not to include a whole bunch of Harry Potter characters into this post, so I was very proud with the amount that ended up making it! I really love the name Nercissa, but I’m not really sure why though. A part of me thinks it’s because it feels like a classic but has this dark flare about it too.

Prudence Alice – Now when I went to include this one to my list, I figured people would think I put it on there because of my obsession with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but it’s not. I generally loved it as “Prue” on the original Charmed series. I always envied her power on the show too! This is another really old name too, it actually dates back to the 1600’s, around of the time of the Salem Witch Trails!

Selene Brooke – I’ve known about this name for a long time because before my dad brought home Oliver, we had a cat named Selene. She was originally my Aunt Laurie’s but somehow she gave her to us. Selene was mostly an outside cat. She was very shy and very pretty! I remember being bitten a couple of times after trying to get close to her. After a few months, we think she took off because we never saw her again. I think my mom tried to hold off a few days before making that announcement because she really loved her!

It would be a long time before I hear the name again, but for different circumstances; this time it came from the Underworld films! I still love the name as it sounds really dark and mysterious

Wilhelmina Amalia – Now, you might not associate this one with fall or Halloween at first, but I found out late in 2018 that the name Wilhelmina was one of the characters in a little animation show on Boomerang called “Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz”. She is the Wicked Witch Of The East’s niece that basically wants to finish what her aunt started. The TV show is cute, but I think I loved the name better!

Now that we have the girl side done, we can move on to talk about the boy names that I have picked out for you. I had a lot more word names for this part because I just haven’t been inspired to use them for the girls yet. They all just sound masculine to me, but you could still use them for girls too, so don’t go with what I tell you because these are my opinions too.

Alchemy Paul – The boys were pretty easy as I have always loved adding a more spooky flare to their names compared to the girls. I wasn’t too keen on this one at first, but I think once I figured out it is apart of both the historical and science worlds, it makes me love it a lot more. It even reminds me of my papaw too!

Byron William – If you love Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and John William Polidori’s The Vampyre, you really need to take a closer look on what inspired both of these works. The story goes that Lord Byron brought a big group of novelists to stay in a villa and share stories. He even challenged to create the scariest story they could write and this is the beginning of history. So, if you enjoy the English name Byron but want to give it some spooky flare, here you go!

Harvest Roy – A lot of people are loving this name lately! However, the only way I’ve seen it used as a girl name. I have never loved it for a girl, everything about it makes me think of a guy! It might have something to do with football, tagliatelle parties, beer always coming into my head when I say it out, but I just love it this way. I would also only use it with smaller middle names too!

Jasper Augustus – Out of all the Twilight names that I had in my original list, this was my ultimate favorite of the bunch! Jasper and Carlyle were my favorites on the movies, but I think Jasper is both classic and cool at the same time!

Marius Bernhardt – When I went about creating this list, I wanted to make sure I represented all of the Halloween-y movies as I could so that I had a wide array of names to pull from, so thankfully I’ve been trying to watch the ones of Anne Rice’s books. There were plenty to use in this post, but one that I really liked the most was Marius. It is such a mysterious name but you could easily use “Mars” for a nickname though!

Poe Lafayette – There is no chance in hell am I leaving out the King of Halloween literature: Edgar Allen Poe. I thought his first and middle names were too common to be on here, but Poe is a great way to honor him. I would definitely use it as a first name, but I think it could work anywhere you want to put it.

Wolf Travis – A part of me wanted to use “Wolfgang” for the list, but I thought it would be too much. Personally, I love that way but using “Wolf” as a nickname. I love older names compared some of the popular trends. Whatever way you prefer, I think it is a strong name for this time of the year.

Viktor Campbell – I wasn’t going to use multiple names for the same book or movie, but the more I started picking out ones I wanted to talk about on this section, I quickly became aware that I wasn’t going to get by with it. This name is featured on the Underworld series with this spelling, but I like it with the original “Victor” for the creator of the monster on Frankenstein. It is a very serious name but I like it that way!

We are finally done with this post. This is my final baby names post for the year, or at least we’ll see! I might find another tag or talk about my favorite names of the year, but we’ll see what happens in the meantime!

How did you like all of the names above? If you were able to use any of them for a baby or maybe a pet, which one(s) would you use?

Non-Disney | Hanna-Barbera

bestof

Howdy!

I’ve been wanting to write about this for a few months now, as I have been trying to generate new ideas for this specific series, Hanna-Barbera has been at the top of the list! The cartoons that came out of that production studio in the late 1960’s until sometime in the 1990’s, they merged with Warner Brothers, was at the heart of my mom’s childhood. Once Blondie and I were allowed to watch something else than besides Barney (shut up!) she basically showed us a number of animated shows she used to watch a child, and what’s funny is now that we’re much older, we still like watching a couple of those shows!

I had to look up all of the shows I’ve seen since I was about seven years old, and I literally counted up 11 different series! For this post though, I’m only discussing the ones that I currently watch on TV right now, and unfortunately Cartoon Network no longer shows the good stuff, but in light of that, there’s another channel specifically for the older animated shows like the ones below and some that came out in the early 2000’s that are over, and it’s called Boomerang!

Scooby-Doo

I absolutely love Scooby-Doo! I still get excited whenever I see the gang all over stores, on children’s clothing, food, watches. It’s nice to see that it is still alive and well for the newer generations. My mom used to tape the marathons on TV while we were at school, so when we came home, we’d sit in the living room, eating our snack on the floor while watching old school Scooby-Doo! I think she was happy that we were interested in something she loved as a young girl too.

My favorite series are the actual “Where Are You” series, honestly because I like the early 70’s getup, and fake laughing audience in the background. If you’re a true fan, you know Shaggy was a stoner and it wasn’t the name that gave you that realization; between the fact that he and Scooby were ALWAYS hungry but the way he was dressed, he was the definition of a 1970’s world peace, free love, weed loving, dude! Now Fred looked the part with mainly the bright orange scarf or whatever was around his neck, but you could never tell whether or not, he liked to smoke a few blunts too! You just wished that he’d come out and say that he and Daphne were a couple! For anyone who hasn’t watched the most recent remake of the show, apparently they’ve made Velma and Shaggy into a couple. How do you feel about that?

I also enjoy the movies, mostly the ones that came out in late 90’s and early 00’s, so like Scooby-Doo, and The Witch’s Ghost, Scooby-Doo, on Zombie Island and Scooby-Doo, and The Alien Invaders. There is one film that came out in 1988 called Scooby-Doo and The Ghoul School. It is about Shaggy, Scooby and his little (brave) nephew Scrappy-Doo become volleyball coaches at a spooky ghoul school full of young daughters of different and infamous characters, like Dracula, Werewolf, and a Mummy. I love it dearly, but I think my favorite feature about is the fact you can tell that it’s an old film, despite only coming out roughly 29 years ago!

Tom & Jerry

Tom & Jerry is another beloved show by my mother and I, we can still watch certain skits and laugh our butts off! Poor Blondie can’t watch it, and it’s not because she doesn’t have cable TV, it’s because our first cat Oliver, killed her first hamster literally a week after we came home from Florida in 2003.

Boomerang actually plays more Tom & Jerry than any of the other shows. The older series will air like two hours worth of the show in the middle of the afternoon and if you need a good chill out moment, it’s a nice show to kick back and watch for a while. One of the interesting things is that back in 1990, they did a remake but creating the main characters in their younger selves. What was even cuter though was they dressed Tom in overalls and stripped shirt with a little hat, while Jerry only had a medium sized red bow around his neck. They were so adorable, but I’ll be honest I don’t think we ever watched these episodes, because as I’ve been watching them now as an adult, my joy is genuine! What’s even better is that my little nephew Nolan enjoys watching it too.

The Smurfs

They’ve started playing an hour worth of The Smurfs in the mornings, so whenever my mom goes to work, I usually try to stay an hour afterwards to watch the episodes. They began airing the show I think at the beginning of August and either they’re only allowed to play a small selection or they never really created more than 10 episodes, because I’ve seen the same ones more than twice.

I have tried to watch the live-action movies, but I’ve never really been interested in them. They look the same and the adventures seem fun, and using Hank Azaria for the villain, Gargamel was brilliant! I do like the fact that they’re trying to get younger generations into the characters as well! The smurfs themselves are adorable, I love their names and how they all act around each other. I feel bad for Brainy everytime he tries to take center stage on certain things, the rest of the clan just throw him out.

The Flintstones

These last two are also new additions to the channel’s daily schedule. I was very happy to see that they were going to put The Flintstones back on the air, they were also another family favorite for my sister and I. We, like every other child, took the Flintstones vitamins before getting to school in the mornings, and everybody usually wanted a “Dino” or “Wilma” because they tasted the best and didn’t leave a chalky taste afterwards. I feel sort of to the kids that get to have the gummies now and don’t have to endure the grape-y taste of rock pieces throughout their mouth.  Oh, and I enjoy Cocoa Pebbles and milk in the mornings now as an adult…

Since both The Flintstones and The Jetsons are much older than the others on my list, my mom and her siblings, watched the original and a couple of the remakes, especially The Pebbles and Bam-Bam Show. This was the one time I remember watching the squeals and loving it just as the first one. I actually love watching the movies too! I feel like my favorite is The Flintstones (1994) when John Goodman played Fred Flintstone, which I thought was just perfect casting!

The Jetsons

Something that I thought was weird is that the creators at Hanna-Barbera productions obviously had a fascination with both the future and prehistoric times. Both The Flintstones and The Jetsons were aired in the same year so that has always made me giggle in a way because you have to think one is about having flying cars and robots, and cars made out of rocks, logs and animal skin and using dinosaurs to help you do the simplest of things!

I do love the show! And I have enjoyed the crossover episodes and movies. Everybody freaks out when the Arrowerse collides the week before they go on their Christmas break, but as a kid of the 80’s or 90’s, seeing these two shows mixing their realities was very cool!

I know Hanna-Barbera created a few more other shows, one of which was The Adventures Of Popeye and I do remember watching some of those specials but not as much as I would have put them on the list above. Honestly, we were encouraged by everyone in our families to check out something on television that was aired before our time, most of the time we had grown to enjoy them, but I actually took them pretty easily.

If you can think of any others that were made by HB throughout the 60’s to 80’s, let me know I’d like to know what you enjoyed as well.

NOTM: Which Witch Is Which?

Happy Halloween!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a “Nails Of The Month” post and I actually had my nails painted with red recently, but I had my nana take it off so I could try out my new polishes!

I wanted to explain the title of this post and why I wanted to buy these two before we get too into this post!

I grew up on the old school Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? episodes on Cartoon Network because they basically came out in my mom’s time (she is not going to like how I worded that!) and I still record episodes of it on my DVR and always look forward to the movies on Boomarang. So when we went to Wal-Mart and I saw these colors I remembered a certain episode called “Which Witch Is Which” (tongue twister) and it’s about the gang meet a spooky witch and her monster haunting a swamp and I remember the colors of green, almost like a mint shade for her face and purple gown on the character and somehow these colors brought me back to that episode so that’s why I got them!

1250 “It’s All A Bluer”

If you had read my fall nail polishes post, you might remember I had included a lone purple polish and I so wished I had waited until after I bought them before I wrote out that post. Anyways, this purple is a beautiful shade! In a way, it’s not exactly a purple and maybe the title is sort of a give away “bluer” maybe it has a tint of blue to it too!

1251 “Peas and Quiet”

Let me say, I’m not too into the pastel colors, but I love this polish! Hell, even my nana likes it! Unfortunately, this picture doesn’t give it justice. It looks way paler in this photo, but the best way to describe it is like chocolate chip mint ice cream! It’s the same color as that! I apologize if saying that makes you think of that ice cream, because it didn’t help me out at all either! I thought it would be glow in the dark, but it’s not! That was sort of a let down… but it’s still a great color!

So what do you think of these polishes? Yay or nay?

Top 9 Favorite Vampires!

Okay, technically I should have had this list created and published by now, but I’ve been trying really hard to watch as many vampire related shows or films lately.

I honestly don’t know how it all started but the first time I had ever seen “vampires” that were animated on Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? and surprisingly I kind of grew to enjoy them. Since then I’ve been interested in The Vampire Diaries, Twilight, The Originals, and Underworld series. Now I’m in the middle of True Blood and recently finished both Queen Of The Damned and Dracula Untold films. So I thought I’d write up a little list of favorites from all of them or at least try to!

tumblr_lyupvmictw1qamuos

Charles Dance – “Thomas” in Underworld: Awakening (2012-16), “Master Vampire” in Dracula Untold (2014)

So this is going to sound a bit strange, but I have a small crush on Charles Dance. It’s small! And no, he’s not my first “older man” crush I’ve ever had…

I technically put him on this list because he’s managed to play a vampire in two films and found a way to make both roles stand out from each other! Charles as “Thomas” was stern but loved his son David and cared for the other vamps in his coven. His role in Dracula Untold, he’s basically alone. He is definitely more “scary” as the “Master Vampire” in that film!

tumblr_nlxzvyod2n1uokf4zo1_500

Peter Facinelli – “Carlisle Cullen” in Twilight series (2008-12)

I wasn’t really into the whole Twilight hype, at the time I already had given my heart to the Salvatore brothers so I thought that was good enough! I didn’t start watching the series until 3 years later!

I wasn’t into who everybody was crushing over. The whole divide of Team Edward or Team Jacob was not for me. My cousin Kristi and I were more interested in Carlisle. The reason why he’s at the bottom of the list is because even though he’s a favorite, I still think he was too soft. However, the goodness of his heart was a reason why I liked him so much. He didn’t scare me or come across as a regular vampire.

tumblr_nbr2tedwez1rlq5bgo1_500

Deborah Ann Woll – “Jessica Hamby” in True Blood (2008-14)

I’m stuck on Season 5 of True Blood and considering from the first episode I watched with Jessica in it, I’ve been really into her character!! I’ve seen her grow into her vampire self and it’s been very interesting to see how much she’s changed.

tumblr_lxh8k1bs5m1qgk29io1_500

Paul Wesley – “Stefan Salvatore” in The Vampire Diaries (2009-present)

I know, you’re probably surprised that I’ve added Stefan onto this list and not Damon, Klaus, or hell Katherine! In all honesty, if I really wanted to, I would add all three but I don’t think anybody is as good as Stefan. I mean, he’s learned how to control himself numerous times but I have to say seeing him lose it defines a vampire for me.

I give Paul lots of credit for being able to do so much for this role and when he played “Silas” in season four too!

tumblr_inline_mm1k2rqdoj1qz4rgp

Dakota Fanning – “Jane” from Twilight (2009-12)

I had a hard time getting into the whole Twilight scene. I didn’t actually watch the first movie until the franchise was starting the Breaking Dawn films.

Despite the fact I had a couple favorites on the “good” side of vampirism, Jane was my favorite of the Voultri. She was a badass from the very first time she’s introduced in New Moon. I almost felt scared with her fierce command as she walked into a room and then she brought different amounts of pain upon her victims and those red eyes alone could memorize you to obey her. I thought Dakota Fanning was a great choice for this role!

tumblr_lkf52czgo91qgbabho1_500

Julie Benz – “Darla” in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel (1997-2004)

The first time I ever watched anything about vampires as a teenager was from getting up at 5am for Angel, which if you didn’t know was the spin-off of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I feel this show was a good choice for me to really test if I could get through the whole thing of vampires, witches, etc. Not to mention the first show I watch has the characters in full makeup, they do not look like people as vampires they generally look like demons I guess you would say and as I watched this show I grew to love Darla a lot and she scared the living shit out of me at times!

tumblr_inline_mplq0wl0au1qz4rgp

Alexander Skarsgård – “Eric Northman” in True Blood (2008-2014)

I’ve been watching True Blood lately but as my friends all told me by season five I’ll be addicted to it, I’m at that season and I’ve sort of lost my interest for it unfortunately.

I’ve been on the fence about Mr. Northman though. From the very first episode I thought he was very intimidating and powerful, but as the first season dragged on I didn’t think he had that sort of attachment with me he once had and I feel bad saying that now, but it’s true. Alexander playing Eric though, hot!

tumblr_nlw2bkh3h01rp0vkjo1_500

Kate Beckinsale – “Selene” in Underworld series (2003-2016)

I still can’t believe my dad got me interested in the Underworld series. It just seems so weird because it’s always been opposite.

I honestly love the characters of the entire series, each one has their own power and brings something different to the role of a vampire. I really love Kate Beckinsale as “Selene” though, I feel in ways I wish I could be that demanding and respected as a both fighter and survivor. I can’t wait for the new film this fall!

tumblr_ma8810zo6o1rgw88uo1_500

Sebastian Roché – “Mikael Mikaelson” in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals (2011-15)

Surprisingly, Mikael wasn’t my first choice to lead the pack as the best vampire, but as I started to really think about it. Nobody really made me freak out longer than this man did especially when Davina brought him back to life. She’s gotta stop bringing the Mikaelson boys back to life!

Anyways, from the time we heard about the original vampire family and why Klaus, Elijah, and the whole crew were basically on the run from him. You know this isn’t somebody you want to mess with and the fact he managed to come around in both TVD and TO was pretty interesting! Despite him being such a feared character he’s reaction to see his daughter Freya in previous season of The Originals was very different, we actually saw emotion and him hugging her!! What the hell? Of course, he did end up being killed at the hands of Klaus  in front of Freya, the man still lives on in the mind’s of the remaining originals.

Birthday + OOTD

46luffriccy82dudfglxx6o9xgwolcv7

Hi guys!

How was your Halloween? I didn’t do much that day, I went outside late in the afternoon to see the little trick-or-treaters, they were so adorable! I spent some time hanging out with the cats. Tubby and Felix almost jumped onto my lap. After a little bit, I stood out talking to neighbors and family friends. Our weather keeps changing, at the start of the weekend it was rainy, but the sun was out. It was a bit breezy Saturday evening but not that bad. Of course later in the week the temperature would rise back up again. My body is so confused! Am I the only one that is actually losing sleep over this daylight savings crap?? I was really tired Saturday night but I kind of figured I would get up kind of early that next morning, but not three minutes before one in the morning!! Sunday was my birthday and I was so tired!! I don’t know how I managed to stay awake the whole day, but I did.

The first person I saw early that morning was my mom, she and my sister had to work which sucked. However, I did get to see everybody. Around 11am, I got up and went on my Facebook to see that my wall was exploding with everybody’s messages saying “happy birthday” I think about ten minutes later I could hear my dad singing “happy birthday to me (to him)” and he came into my room to give me a hug and Brandon came in next to say “happy birthday” and my dad said “thank you” for me. I had a good birthday lunch, fish and cheesy, broccoli rice. Yum! My mom got home at 3pm and she came in–still in her scrubs–with my birthday card in her hand. For once I actually didn’t destroy it like I usually do to other card envelopes! Apparently my dad was the one who got me a brownie cake and card and my mom was the one who got me the Tower Speaker. It is what it sounds, it’s just one speaker tower that basically plugs into everything and mind you, I’ve been without a lot of bass in the past 11 months… So the bass queen is back!

I spent a couple of hours trying to get used to that and a little bit afterwards, Uncle Russell came in to give me his card which I thought fit me very well! If you can read it down at the bottom (the one on the left!) the inside says “I want to participate.” Around six, Tressa, Sammy and their whole crew came over with their gifts. I got to see Chey and Chevy the night before while they were dressed up in their costumes. They looked so good! They also had a LOT of candy in their bags! If I remember correctly, Chey and Chevy gift to me were my pajama bottoms. They’re a bunch of colors but the main color is pink. They’re fleece which is what i like the most! They are so comfortable! Oh and there’s a black skull on the upper left thigh! Tressa and Rex got me this painting type of thing, i don’t know what to call it. It’s basically a big tree with a skull carved in the middle of it. It also says “knowledge is life” it’s pretty cool honestly! Sammy’s gift though, I was instructed to keep it away from my mom because it’s a Wizard Of Oz picture in a frame. I love it! They came over as I was eating my birthday supper of mac and cheese! I finished my day with a small slice of my brownie cake!

On Monday, day two of celebrations, this time with my grandparents. We got Fish Hut for lunch. I got to have pizza, shhh nobody tell my Uncle David! My nana was so nice she made cinnamon rolls but used something that changed the coloring of the icing. It was yellow, orange and brown. I took two home with me! She also made these “Nana doodles” she put the same icing on top of vanilla wafer cookies. My mom, Blondie and Brandon went to the store for her and did her other errands while I sat out in the kitchen and talked my head off. I bet my papaw enjoys it whenever I leave, he probably gets better naps that way! Before I end this post, I want to share what I wore over there. I wore my flannel button-up shirt I got last Christmas from American Eagle and my leggings are gray and white; they’re faded a bit but that’s all part of their design! They certainly feel like jeans, they squeeze the crap out of my thighs! I don’t remember I bought them from either.

I have to say I really enjoyed my birthday celebration.
