After Rent | What Live Musical Should Be Next?

Howdy!

Back in late January, I recorded the newest musical production to set live in television. FOX is the network that has been bringing the last four to us, and for this year they brought us the very beloved show “Rent” to life. I had only heard one or two things about it online and actually thought I had already missed it by a couple of weeks, but in reality I only had 10 minutes before it premiered! I like to be surprised when it comes to these types of programs, I don’t like to know too much about the story or cast beforehand so when it came on, I just hit the record button and proceeded to watch the whole thing!

Here’s what is really interesting about the whole thing, despite the fact that I said it was a “beloved,” I had never seen it before, The only thing I knew about it, was the song “Seasons Of Love” because it was a song we performed in choir when I was in middle school. It had been a long time since I had heard the song, but surprisingly I still remembered most of the words! I was pretty impressed myself!

It wasn’t until probably May that I finally got to watch the movie, because Showtime was airing it many, many times in the beginning of summer. I took advantage of the opportunity and even though, I was a bit hesitant about whether or not I would like it as much as the live version, I still wanted to learn more about the characters and of course the lyrics to the songs better!

To be honest, I still really love the live version, mostly for the fact that the audience was incorporated around the stage and cast members too! It was different and fun, it wasn’t like anything they had done before so of course I would prefer going in that direction

.For this post, I wanted to share some of my favorites or musicals that I have never seen but would like to one day, and I don’t care if it’s on Broadway or television! So, here is my list below in no particular order.

Rock Of Ages

Legally Blonde

Newsies

Fame

The Lion King

Footloose

Mamma Mia

Dreamgirls

The Wizard Of Oz

Jersey Boys

High School Musical

Mary Poppins

I feel like this is a good mix – you have some musicals that would be controversial and others that could be interesting to see with undiscovered talent. I mean, I love Vanessa Hudgens and Jordan Fisher a lot, but so far they’ve been in two of these productions,.I want to see some new faces and voices too, and I think that’s reasonable if they’re going to continue doing these shows, at least I hope they do more! .I want to see more African-Americans and disability actors on stage like this, let’s give everybody a chance to show us what they got!

Now I turn it to you, what are your thoughts about updating these musicals? Do you have one that you hope they’ll turn into a live production one day?
