After Rent | What Live Musical Should Be Next?

Howdy!

Back in late January, I recorded the newest musical production to set live in television. FOX is the network that has been bringing the last four to us, and for this year they brought us the very beloved show “Rent” to life. I had only heard one or two things about it online and actually thought I had already missed it by a couple of weeks, but in reality I only had 10 minutes before it premiered! I like to be surprised when it comes to these types of programs, I don’t like to know too much about the story or cast beforehand so when it came on, I just hit the record button and proceeded to watch the whole thing!

Here’s what is really interesting about the whole thing, despite the fact that I said it was a “beloved,” I had never seen it before, The only thing I knew about it, was the song “Seasons Of Love” because it was a song we performed in choir when I was in middle school. It had been a long time since I had heard the song, but surprisingly I still remembered most of the words! I was pretty impressed myself!

It wasn’t until probably May that I finally got to watch the movie, because Showtime was airing it many, many times in the beginning of summer. I took advantage of the opportunity and even though, I was a bit hesitant about whether or not I would like it as much as the live version, I still wanted to learn more about the characters and of course the lyrics to the songs better!

To be honest, I still really love the live version, mostly for the fact that the audience was incorporated around the stage and cast members too! It was different and fun, it wasn’t like anything they had done before so of course I would prefer going in that direction

.For this post, I wanted to share some of my favorites or musicals that I have never seen but would like to one day, and I don’t care if it’s on Broadway or television! So, here is my list below in no particular order.

Rock Of Ages

Legally Blonde

Newsies

Fame

The Lion King

Footloose

Mamma Mia

Dreamgirls

The Wizard Of Oz

Jersey Boys

High School Musical

Mary Poppins

I feel like this is a good mix – you have some musicals that would be controversial and others that could be interesting to see with undiscovered talent. I mean, I love Vanessa Hudgens and Jordan Fisher a lot, but so far they’ve been in two of these productions,.I want to see some new faces and voices too, and I think that’s reasonable if they’re going to continue doing these shows, at least I hope they do more! .I want to see more African-Americans and disability actors on stage like this, let’s give everybody a chance to show us what they got!

Now I turn it to you, what are your thoughts about updating these musicals? Do you have one that you hope they’ll turn into a live production one day?

Favorite Romantic Comedies!

Untitled

Hi ūüôā

I hope you’re not getting tired of these movie posts because I’ve got a few others that I’d like to discuss sometime in the future! As you might’ve seen in my last movie post, I added¬†Sweet Home Alabama¬†as one of my favorite chick flicks, which is what it is, but after searching around for my favorite romantic comedies I started to think that maybe I should have left it out and put it on this list instead. And then I had another thought, that maybe if I hadn’t added it, would I even think of doing this post?

I don’t honestly like the lovey-dovey films. It’s just not in my DNA to believe in love at first sight, at least not with people. Blogs, music, and books are totally different for me. You can tell a lot about those things with whatever cover is on the front. People can be very difficult to read I think. So honestly I have a love/hate relationship with the romantic comedies because there’s a lot of love-y scenes that usually make me want to barf, but yeah there are some that tug at my heart and I end liking it a lot more than I had planned on and that is why I decided to give you this list.

The Parent Trap (1998 – Natasha Richardson, Dennis Quaid, Lindsay Lohan)

I actually watched this recently. I hadn’t watched it in a really long time and so the fact that I was wanting to watch it one afternoon was a mystery to me. Surprisingly, I still remember quite a bit of this film.

I think some of my favorite scenes are really when Annie and Hallie start playing tricks on each other at camp. I mean, the last one in Annie’s cabin is flat out hilarious and something I thought was weird was the fact whenever they show the scene inside the cafeteria and you see those pictures of the previous camp goers and then they have this last prank of these girls sneaking around putting shaving cream and honey on some of these girls, I thought how does one sleep through all of that?! Because I’m picturing loud creaks everytime the girls walked along the floors.

I did like the chemistry between Elizabeth and Nick, they seemed genuine and I loved the scene whenever Liz decides to take Hallie back to California and exchange her with Annie again, because she literally becomes this crazy woman! She’s nervous about seeing her ex-husband and the girls make up this big scheme to get their parents back together. The final prank to get Meredith out of the picture is funny as hell! See, I’d never be that clever to be able to do that to a person, but then again I’m naturally a fun, loving and warm type of person! I’ve got family members laughing at that sentence right now I know I do!

Look Who’s Talking (1989 – Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, Bruce Willis)

I really love this movie! I’m still kicking myself for removing it on my DVR about two years ago because leave it to my mother to delete it on her side. And she wonders why every once in a while I go and delete some of her stuff. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve deleted¬†Fifty Shades Of Grey!¬†I think this is truly one of my best movies and I’ve watched a LOT of movies over the years! I can watch it in the morning, late afternoons when my energy is getting low and late at night when I can’t sleep.

I don’t really like Bruce Willis, but I absolutely love him voicing Mikey. I think he is freaking hilarious! I’ve always wanted to know what babies and toddlers are really thinking about the people that are around them 24/7 and he brought every thought and emotion in each scene, because babies don’t know any better and he manged to figure out what to say in each section so perfect! I wonder if he ever ab-libed any of those scenes?

The Back-Up Plan (2010 – Jennifer Lopez, Alex O’Loughlin)

Every once in a while, I’ll see a trailer for a film and fall completely in love with it. This was one of those movies!

I am a sucker of anything with Jennifer Lopez in it, so it was only natural to get into this film I think. I thought the story was very adorable and made me wonder about my future.¬† I’d love to have a family of my own, I’ve wanted that for majority of my life so watching this woman have like a deadline that if she didn’t find her true love by a certain age that she was going to do her back-up plan and basically go to a sperm bank and create that family that she wants. It’s such a sweet and funny movie!

Legally Blonde (2001 – Reese Witherspoon, Matt Davis, Luke Wilson)

Years ago, I want to say a month or two before we left so I could have my surgeries, my aunt on my dad’s side gave me Legally Blonde and it was seriously the most played movie besides The Little Rascals! My roommate Shelby and I were freaking obsessed with it! The nights before our surgeries we would eat chips and salsa and watch Legally Blonde. When we were lying in bed recovering, we would have portable televisions and VCR on a table and we’d watch it as part to comfort us in those times!

My mom and I can STILL quote the entire film! We both have our favorite scenes and characters! We solely have a chihuahua because of Bruiser and when Matt Davis appeared on The Vampire Diaries in 2011, I was in denial because I knew I recognized him but I couldn’t place him in anything I had watched recently, but once I showed my mom, she was like that’s “Warner!” and so if it wasn’t for her I would have forgotten about that! She actually had a hard time watching Charlie Sheen’s¬†Anger¬† Management¬†during it’s first season because Selma Blair was in it and she had a difficult time not seeing her as the “rigid bitch” in LB!

What are some of your favorite romantic comedies? Is there a genre of film (besides horror!) you’d like me to talk about in a future post? Let me know!¬†

When Your First Love Gets Married

12294876_812640348845550_4820856655821811760_n

Howdy!

February has always been that one month that you dread, but as a kid in school, I have to say I enjoyed it because back then we didn’t have any of this dating crap. We had couples that “went out” for a couple of weeks (or days) but there was no pressure to being in a relationship.

I remember every time we had to make Valentine’s Day cards. I’d make ones for my friends but I also made a couple of extras for the boys I had crushes on too. What still gets me though is that half the time, I’d have somebody else give them the cards because I couldn’t do it myself. I still have the memories of the fourth grade passing out my Mickey and Minnie Mouse cards with the cherry suckers taped on the sides and whispering to a friend to pass it to so and so. Everybody knew it was from me though, between the red face that matched the color of the lollipops completely and well, nobody had footwriting like moi!

I can say I had a lot of childhood crushes. Every person will agree with me though, it doesn’t matter how many people you chase after, nobody will ever compare to your first love.

My first crush… I ¬†still look back on the memories of those days where he was very caring and how he could make me smile on a whim. We never dated. I just loved from afar, if you want to call it that. I’m pretty sure he knew I had feelings for him, because everybody else did, including his own family!

When we were in middle school, we had Winter Ball, a formal dance that all of the middle schoolers could attend. If you went to the dance, you could get your pictures taken by a real photographer. In the previous years, I was in a lot of group photos and this time because I knew it would be our last dance before prom, so I wanted to ask my crush to be in the picture with me and if I remember correctly I actually went up and asked him if he would. I had to go and find him in the massive crowds (the fact I never ran over my dresses was a damn miracle – can’t say anything for Junior year though!) but I did find him and we waited in line and I felt horrible about taking him away from all the fun he was having with his buddies and date. Well, that second part is a bit of a lie.

We got our picture taken and within a week later, our photos were delivered to our homeroom classes and I remember being very happy that I got this picture back. Everybody in my family was also ecstatic! My nana still has a copy of it and mine is on top of a bookshelf in my room as we speak! As for him, I remember him telling me that for a number of months his mom had it taped to the fridge and to think this poor boy wanted to continue to be friends with me after that!

I’m not bitter that he’s now married, I can’t say I’ve never been bitter whenever he’d get a new girlfriend in school. I do remember feeling really un-beautiful though, but that is normal behavior for teenagers. I say “is” because it is normal. I have realized that there was nothing wrong with me, he just wanted to be friends with me. That’s all my old crushes ever wanted to be with me, but because I knew I was failing at ever having the whole “high school sweetheart” it pretty much destroyed me in a number of ways.

When I found out he was married though, I was shocked at first, but I was also happy for him. I did borrow my mom’s shoulder that night because I just needed that reassuring I was still enough. I would have used my dad, but he doesn’t necessarily like it when his girls cry, especially over boys because all that ever makes want to do is get even so I didn’t lean on him that night.

When your first love gets married before you, at first you feel like you’re going to need a couple of glasses of wine, pint of ice cream and a shoulder to cry on. My advice for you is to one of these things, if not all of them. I think a good cry is okay, but being down on yourself about the past thinking of if you hadn’t done this or that, if you were prettier in school he would belong to you. You can’t think like that, because you can’t change the past. All you can and most importantly have to do is move on.

I would say you need to watch the best movie for this type of situation: Legally Blonde.

Ms. Elle Woods went out of her way to get into Harvard Law School. She wanted to prove to her newly ex-boyfriend that she could be wifey material despite her ditzy personality. She worked hard to become a student at Harvard and became a perfect student, suffering the wrath of his new fiancée, and yet at the end of everything when she won her case and he saw how much of a badass she really was; she realized that he was nothing to her! So she not only found a new calling in life but she also found her true love there too!

It’s so interesting how cliche the whole ending turned out, but yet it was honest. You never know where your soulmate will find you. You might be acquaintances from school or work, but you could also be complete strangers. You never know where you’ll find that person. I like to think I’m Elle in a way, I’ll find somebody one day that accepts me in all my flaws. He’ll understand my life a disabled woman and he’ll hopefully support my blog. He might even start his own blog or write a book about taking care of me and our little family in the future. Until then, I will relish in the single life one day at a time.

Tell me some of your favorite (or not so favorite) childhood Valentine’s Day memories!¬†

A Mini Update

I’ve been doing a lot of recovering in the past two days, I fell out of my push wheelchair on Monday at my nana’s and I’m done fine right now. No hospital visit or anything but of course I’ve been very paranoid along with everybody else, especially my nana since she saw me fall right out of ¬†it. In all my years of using wheelchairs that was a first. So that means I’ve done a lot of watching ¬†TV and lying down. For a person, who hates to rest and it does run in the family. I did all of this on my own, because everything including my butt hurt when I went to sit up even on my bed. So lying down was just the better idea.

I’ve been recording and watching so many movies in the last 24 hours it’s not even funny! I’ve finally seen all of the Underworld movies as I just finished¬†Underworld: Evolution¬†yesterday evening. That Marcus dude is freaky in bat form. I finally got one of my questions answered though, how does Selene walk in the sunlight in the Underworld: Awakening?¬†Well, you find out in that movie! I’ve also been watching Frozen¬†and loving Olaf more than I did the first time I watched it. I’m trying to catch myself up with Major Crimes¬†as my mom is done watching it, I’ve been watching it on my own. Oh and I typed¬†Legally Blonde¬†last night and I was reliving my days at the hospital watching that movie nonstop. “….what are my boobs too big?”¬†BEST. QUOTE. EVER! The movie’s got a lot of great quotes in it, but that’s got to be about the best.

¬†I’ve also been listening to a LOT of music lately too. Another band that I vividly remember saying I’d never get into has now have ahold of me. I’m now a fan of Asking Alexandria, it was just two songs at first and it’s two albums! Now that I’ve updated you on what’s been going on, I thought I’d counter out the bad with a little bit of good and post some pretty pictures. I haven’t been outside since everything happened so these pictures belong to my sister. I hope your week has been going better than mine but the week isn’t over yet so let’s keep our fingers and toes crossed that it continues to get better from here!
