Writing Prompt | Taking The Leap

Hello!

Okay, I am doing something a little different today, but I’m pretty sure that everyone will like some part of it.

Back in late August, I went through the free Kindle books for story and general writing prompts. There was one book that I thought would help me generate a whole slew of ideas for the holidays. It is called Four Seasons Of Creative Writing by Bryan Cohen. I had plans to use one of the prompts about summer in September but I didn’t have enough time to get anything down so once I found this one I immediately got everything planned out in my head from the moment I read it and now that I’ve literally caught myself watching the leaves fall down our trees in our backyard, the more I have wanted to write about this prompt.

I based this story on Bill and Will from the film Happy Feet 2 and if you haven’t seen this one before, Bill and Will are krill living in the same area as Mumble and the rest of the colony of penguins. They go on an adventure to find themselves, out of their meaningless life as food for the whales, seals, etc in the ocean.

Create a conversation between two leaves that are about to fall from a tree. One is scared and the other is excited about the long trip to the ground. What do they talk about and why?

Ohhhh… I can’t do it. There’s just no way I can get through it. I’ll die, I just know it. Why doesn’t Leaf or the rest of the family understand my genuine fears of breaking ground? That’s it! I’m not going! I’m putting my wings down on this one.

Leaf can hear his brother Vere mutter to himself again. This has become a reoccurring issue the longer we stay up here among the tallest tree in the neighborhood. I’m pretty sure he’s the one who chased away all of the pretty girls who blossomed earlier this season. They couldn’t handle him having a panic attack at all hours about making the journey downward before the snow makes its first landfall.

Funny enough, he didn’t use to be this way. When we were first budding, he looked down at the ground below us and expressed his thoughts of what goes on down there. According to our grandfather Oak, it is essential for all of us to make it down at the end of autumn, but he forgot to mention that we need to be careful on which day we decide to let loose, because there are dangers when you finally make it down, and you are reminded by it almost every other day, thanks to the loud noise that radiates across the block.

“VERE! You’re waking up the rest of the crew! Shut up and let us sleep!” Aubrey yelled across the other side of the tree. Despite the rest of her family caving and disembark on their way a little earlier than planned because Vere had become even more annoying to any one who could hear him.

“You know Auburn, why don’t you go ahead and go down there, maybe you’ll find pieces of your family after the ugly statue ran over them a few weeks ago!” Vere snapped, knowing what he had hit a nerve on his childhood friend, but still went on his ranting anyway.

*groans*

“Nice going you jerk!” someone shouted opposite of them. “What is wrong with him Leaf? You know how sensitive Auburn is about what happened to her family!” Another person said and to make matters worse, twisted around enough to face Leaf and became unattached to his post at the same time. At least there wasn’t any wind around, so at least the landing will smooth for them.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know!” Leaf shouted at his neighbors and friends. “Aubs, you know what he’s saying shouldn’t believed with a grain of seedling.” as Leaf said in his sweetest voice before turning back to his brother with the prospect of just pushing his brother overboard so everyone could go in peace, but he knew he couldn’t do it. As much as he hated apologizing over and over because of his brother’s mouth, he also was a little afraid to make the jump too, he just wasn’t willing to let it show to anyone, including Verdant.

Unfortunately, I had a whole month to come up with this story but never quite made it through this scene in my head, so this is all of it. So, I’m really sorry this is so short, but I like it as a cliffhanger.

If you were a leaf on top of the tallest tree in your park, would you be frightened like Vere or be super annoyed like Leaf and Aubrey? I’d like to see your answers below!

November Moodboard

Howdy!

It is time for another monthly moodboard!

By the time it turns into November, the leaves on the trees are turning various colors and falling to the ground. One of my favorite colors the leaves change into is actually red. To me, this symbolizes autumn. There is so much orange to embrace in October that I feel like any shade of red is a welcoming surprise. So, I knew what kind of theme I wanted to go for this time, and since I would look around the house for the previous ideas, I have stopped several items for this board.

The items used in this moodboard

Something that was a little shocking to me, was the fact that I had so many things at my disposable! If I had more room, I probably would have added them all!

The biggest difference with this one was the fact that I didn’t have a big enough bandanna to use for my backdrop. I asked my dad if he had any and even though he has tons of them, they’re all cut in half in order to fit around his head the right way. Unfortunately, I couldn’t use it in the way I have been, which sucked in a way, but all was not lost because my mom was helping me too, and while she was doing laundry, she let me use her Christmas kitty shirt she’s had for years! One thing you’ll notice with the pictures is that I didn’t use the front of it, because I thought it would overshadow the rest of the stuff on top of it.

The three largest next to the shirt were the Ritz cracker box, that was so unbelievably heavy for my toes, that as it was nearing the edge of my bookshelf that I just let it fall to ground. Since it was also brand new, I know not to be surprised for the many broken pieces in the packages! The second thing was actually a little present from my nephew the last time he came over. He walked into my room with the Hoosier back scratcher. When I finally got around to doing this, it had been on my floor for about three to four days.

As for the smaller items, I also had a package of UNO cards on top of my mini bookshelf that I grabbed, thankfully these were a lot easier for me to get ahold of with my toes and move to the space on the floor. The final piece that I used that came from my room was my little Spider-Man figurine.

At the same time, I was searching for stuff to use for this board, I was also rearranging my nephew Nolan’s bookshelf with several of my books. I literally had two projects going on at the same time! So, you can easily imagine by the time I got around to doing the photos for the moodboard that I couldn’t grip much of anything after the hell I went through with my books! Anyways, while I was already in Nolan’s playroom, I went and grabbed a couple of Hot Wheels cars, knob that belongs on his work bench and a single red ball (that you swear was orange in the pictures!) and placed them in my trusty bucket so I could just drag it back and forth between rooms!

And like that, I am done with this post! I feel like I should mention before I get asked whether or not I got any sleep the night after, I did! My mom and I worked so hard that we actually slept like babies. It was crazy! We hardly ever do this, but it was a big day for us that literally the next day, we both vowed not to work on anything. You ever get like this?

How do you like the color theme for this November? What should we do for next month? Blue? Festive colors of green and red? Let me know!

Halloween Decor | Everything Is Under $100

Howdy!

I am such a lover of autumn, it is my favorite time of the year to go shopping for decor, the second being is Christmas of course! I just love the different colors of reds, yellows, and oranges of the trees around town, but I also enjoy seeing the impressive Halloween displays in front yards. I am a fan of the tacky bright orange with the Charlie Brown eyes and mouth, but I also love the gore-y decorations some people are brave enough to show off on their neighbors too.

Right now, we currently don’t have a porch on our house so we can’t necessarily have any pumpkins on display, although I think we could get by with putting a couple at the base of the stairs. The cats would enjoy them but I think people would miss them at night and really hurt themselves because they were in the way. So, as another way to talk about ways of decorating, I figured this was the only way to go.

Below I will be giving you eight items that I found on Walmart’s website to help spice up your home a little with some ghoul-y cheer!

There were two things that I wanted to make sure I put on this post and they are everything will be under $100, I honestly tried to keep it about half of that but I kept finding cute things that were higher, so I caved a bit! I also thought it was smart to give you a subtle fall and some Thanksgiving options along with some spooky stuff too! I am going to talk about two items from each section, but if you’d like to check out the whole group, underneath the banner above are the links with their prices to each one. I want to apologize if any of them say they are “out of stock” at the time you go to check them out. None were like that when I created the post.

Thanksgiving Cream Pumpkins

I have always loved the faux white pumpkins, but I’ve always wanted to use the normal orange ones to do any of our crafts. As I’ve gotten older I’ve sort of realized how smart my nana and I would have been to use the fake pumpkins to decorate, because let’s face it we would have them forever! We could have put them in many places throughout the house instead of putting them outside in the cold!

Another reason why I love these pumpkins is because you can have them for the entire fall season. If you can find it in a neutral color like this, your house can look very chic but still have the full inspiration of everything autumn brings too. Walmart also has them in a light shade of green and dusty blue! These were my favorites though because I liked the way they looked, they were different!

Mustard Chevron Fleece Throw Blanket

I have been watching a lot of different YouTube videos lately and I’ve seen almost everyone talk about having a mustard colored blanket and at first, I didn’t understand all of the hype over it but then I thought it was the perfect color to continue my sunflower theme for my room. It wasn’t too bright or light of a hue and that’s what I’ve been interested in for the past few months. I also enjoy the little fringe at the sides because it reminds me of a blanket I had as a child, but ultimately I love fleece blankets so it really doesn’t matter what the color or little additions are on it, if it’s fleece I will pretty much love it to pieces!

Unfortunately, this was the first one that I found that was “expensive” to me, when I told my mom about it, she made it out to be not so bad. In my defense, I don’t go shopping for bedding stuff too often so our differences in price ranges are pretty prominent. I feel like once it becomes time for Christmas to steal the season’s time in the spotlight, it might go on clearance and that could be the perfect time to purchase it. That’s just my thinking for you today!

Mini Ceramic Halloween Tree

Growing up my grandparents had a lot of these types of trees around their house. My nana would leave them on at all hours and since we were afraid to sleep in that living room, those trees were just enough light to keep us sane through the whole night! Anyways, she also had a pretty white one and my papaw had a smaller one, that now belongs to me because it was always stored on top of the organ desk. I still need to replace the light bauble but I think I’ll have it up this winter!

When I saw this on the website, I immediately became very happy because it still looked like the others but it was just in black, purple and orange–regular Halloween colors! What was funny though is that all of the rage last Christmas were these black Christmas trees, and so I thought this would be as close as I would ever get to having a black tree in my room. However, there was one drawback once I looked at the price! So, again I went with my thought I had about the blanket that maybe after Halloween ends it’ll go up on sale.

Purple Translucent Skull Figurine

Right after I finished my search for the pumpkins, I had to check out the skulls they had too! I figured the type I was looking for were in low supplies, because I don’t really like the creepy looking ones nor do I enjoy the tacky ones that much either. When it comes to skulls, I am quite picky! I prefer both matte, day of the dead and translucent skulls. They did have some cool sugar skulls but when I saw this one with the word “purple” hell, even I knew it was game over!

The only thing I was puzzled about it was that it definitely doesn’t look purple on the picture. To me that is more like hot pink! So, I am hoping this isn’t false advertisement there. After I noticed, I also saw the price of it and I began to wonder on good the quality was, just because it looks gorgeous on the site, doesn’t mean it’ll look really cheap once you get it home. However, it could be a good product and I’m worrying for no reason at all!

What did you think of this little Halloween home decor post? do you have any favorites listed above? How would you rate the decorative items from Walmart?

The Month Where The Leaves Start To Change

It’s finally October! The “fun” month for every kid and kid at heart adults. It’s the month where the leaves start to change colors. Stores bring out their Halloween stuff if they haven’t been doing that yet. Kids are paining pumpkins. Kids and adults are picking out costumes for Halloween. Everybody’s ready to go to haunted houses. However, I’m just ready for ABC plays “The Great Pumpkin” because I missed it last year.

Last night I went to the Homecoming football game. We lost, and I didn’t expect to talk to people. I thought I was going to be ignored like I was the weekend before and be pissed off the rest of the night. I actually prepared myself for that. Obviously God had other plans for me. Besides having a fun day with my mom and grandparents. I went to the game and actually had fun with that. I talked to ALOT of people, a few I haven’t seen in awhile and a few that I talk to but not as much.

I’m not doing dressing up this year. One of these years I will dress up as a Transformers. Its a sad goal, but true! I was a Punk Ballerina last year and nothing this year. I’m sure we’ll have to get candy for any of our neighbors or dad’s friends kids that come by. I think I’m just ready for the Disney Halloween movies start back up and Charlie Brown’s The Great Pumpkin to come on. Ah! Childhood memories!

It Finally Feels Like Fall!

Usually we don’t get a long break from summer and then it turns into winter. We usually get like a month break from the summer and then all of a sudden the cold front comes and stays for what feels like forever. I always like that break before winter comes, because since September through November it feels cooler and you can tell in the smells around you in the mornings that’s its fall.

October is coming up sooner than we think. I’ve already seen “Halloween” trend on Trends on Twitter today. It didn’t feel like fall until Thursday morning, my mom and I went over to my nana’s early. I actually had to wear a sweater and socks. Haven’t done that in awhile. It was cool that morning, even though I thought it was freezing to me because I had just gotten up and out of my blanket. I really thought it was cold then.

My dad made breakfast for himself and whoever else that was hungry. I just ate and I thought he was making Thanksgiving two months ahead of schedule. He wasn’t. He was making Biscuits and gravy. I was way off. Maybe I am craving the BIG thanksgiving dinner, even though it’s going to be shorter without some people there. Hopefully this time my Aunt Laurie will be able to join us this year since she was sick last year.
