The Garden Tour | The Beginning

Hello!

I am finally ready to give you the story of our garden. I say “our” because even though I didn’t do the actual tilling, planting and pull vegetables off the stocks, I am still very much a part of the whole thing. I haven’t had much say on the entire thing, but I thought talking about it on here will bring me closer to each of the sections.

Since we’ve been in this house and after getting our dog Rumer’s fenced yard earlier this year, my folks have been itching to make the front as pretty as possible. We’ve been in this house four years and my mom has had array of hanging flowers on the side deck and eventually the front entrance, but they took the landscaping up a notch once we started to experience spring weather. There were a few times in those early days where the majority of the plants had to go into my dad’s garage for a night or two, so they didn’t develop any frost on their leaves.

The very first thing my parents bought for the garden was a nod to me, as I had found them on Facebook one day and shared it to my mom and she seemed to like them as they arrived a week later. They are sunflower solar lights. They do not need any batteries nor water but just straight sun to shine bright over the space. Originally, they were going to be in the back deck where I love to spend time hanging out with the cats and reading one of my books, but then my mom wanted some as well. I tried to split them up evenly since it came with 8 sunflowers, but dad ended up scarping that idea as a whole and now we have the majority in the front yard and three are in the back yard.

The sunflowers are in great company to the real flowers along the fence. As you can see from this photo, we have the lights on the inside of the fence while we have a row of plants on the other side, this is actually an almond bush, it was a small section trimmed off the other bush at my nana and papaw’s house. My nana has a section up north and now we have one for our yard.

All of the plants are non-toxic to Rumer so if she does decide to tear into them, she shouldn’t get too sick by them. We’ve had the front part done for five months and she ignores them so that’s great! For the most part, all of our flowers and vegetables are non-toxic to both Rumer and the cats; the cats have hardly made a dent in our gardens. We’ve caught Grumpy, Midge, and Nelson asleep in the big garden in the backyard but they don’t really care about any of the new landscaping, which has really surprised us in the last month or so!

In the front, we have had array of various flowers line up along the fence like the tulips. My parents were really into the tulips, but they were the first to die once we got started with everything. We had orange, pink, and purple tulips and they were so beautiful, but they didn’t really flourish like we thought they would, but by the time we got them it was the end of March, and we were experiencing frosts in the mornings, but we were able to save the hostas and rose bushes they bought throughout March to late April. It was not a good idea to allow my dad to go to Wal-Mart or Menards because he would come home with more plants, especially rose bushes and peppers!

There is a ruse bush closest to the sunflower patch, I will talk more about them in my next post, which was looking really bad at the store and my dad felt kind of sorry for it like Charlie Brown does at the little real tree in Charlie Brown Christmas special. According to them, they left Menards and went around Wal-Mart, but he kept thinking about that sad bush and they literally went back to grab and take it home. Thankfully they did this because it’s been flourishing since the start of April. It is huge! I can see perfectly from the front door and it’s a nice reddish-pink color too! We’re all happy he was able to save it from its humble beginnings and see it evolve over time in the rich soil. If you are really curious, this rose bush is on the left side on the first collage.

While my dad worked mainly in the fence line, my mom focused her attention to the porch. She has had some type of flowers either hanging from the rails of the side deck or on the front steps. We love to make that space in the front somewhat decorated for all seasons!

And since we’ve had a proper porch, she seemed to step up her game with arranging even more flowers around every surface, and we’ve had petunias of various colors like pinks and purples, but she added a couple of different daisies this year, and one of which has become a sort of favorite for me as it has a yellow hue on the outside with a deep purple in the middle; none of us had ever seen this one before but I hope it’ll become a seasonal stable for us.

We also have two cubes at the bottom of the stairs, and there are a bunch of zinnias and another flower we haven’t had before, but they’re called purple waves and whenever I go up next to the screen door I can’t quite see them because of how dad and our family friend built the actual steps and small patio last year, but I’ve learned to live with it as long as they add pretty elements to this part of our home.

Unfortunately, a lot of flowers we planted in the spring are dead, but my parents really enjoy their flowers so as the weather turns, we grabbed others that would relish in the sunlight. The rose bushes are still going strong, but we did replace the tulips with yellow marigolds. The best way to describe what they look like are dandelions when they become bright yellow, but they have more petals, they look like those 80’s or 90’s toy balls with those silky-soft hairs. I hope you understand what I’m saying, because that’s all I have at the moment.

293883256_554369599757295_6348019079118481512_n

We have a group of marigolds next to the legendary rose bush and it wasn’t supposed to be, but I think of it as a nice nod to my great-great-great Aunt Mary and her husband Gen, short for General in fact! I’ve talked about them a few years ago, my nana and I found a file of letters and photos that were supposed to be put with Mary when she died, but they never were, and everybody has always talked about their love of roses. Apparently, Gen was obsessed with them, they had all kinds and bred different ones, and in one of the letters we found, his pet name for his wife was Marigold, which is so, so sweet! It does make me sad we weren’t able to give her back the file in the end, but it is a nice memory to have for newer generations.

I’ve been reading the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder on Spotify, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about how they did back on the wild frontier, and even my mom has said things that would make Charles Ingalls very happy too! We had a storm back in early June that was semi violent and shook our tomato and cucumber plants to the point they were bent a little and she said, “I now understand what Pa Ingalls went through when it hailed and destroyed their field.” Thankfully, we didn’t lose anything, and they felt a lot better than while they watched the wind mess with the larger plants.

So, that’s all I can say about the front part of our house and when I come back with my second post, it will be about the side yard and I’ll be talking about how my folks decided to dig further on the eastern side of our property and tell you more about the process of our sunflowers, and if you know me well enough, you know how excited I am to chat about them. And if you’re wondering if they have names like my indoor plants, they do! I also share our first experience of canning the large cucumber harvests we’ve had lately! So, I really hope you have enjoyed reading this first section and continue learning about little homesteading journey.

What kind of landscaping have you done to your home? For those who live in apartments, what are some of your future ideas to create your own garden? What are your favorite flowers/plants?

Life Lately | Tulips, Royals, & Blog Schedule

Howdy!

It has been a LONG freaking time since I’ve done one of these blog posts. I always tell myself I need to do more of them or at least have mom buy a thick spine journal so I can get things out but it never happens!

Here’s the interesting part of this, I thought about writing this first than getting to work on Friday’s post, which will be a diary entry directed to my lovely papaw. For today, I am focusing on good things–not saying talking about/to my papaw isn’t good–and I am hoping to unleash a lot of things that have been roaming around in my mind lately! It will be separated by three sections so I hope everyone enjoys themselves and give me your thoughts at the end.

Spring Is Coming!

I like winter, and always have, mostly because snow makes me happy although I never go out and play in it or run through with my wheelchair. This year, we haven’t had a lot of snow and like my mom mentioned to me the other day, she said since we didn’t have a bunch of snow like in previous years, the bugs will be awful because they didn’t necessarily die. I am okay with the occasional fly or in our case, ladybugs but yeah, I could do without the wasps! I’m not a fan of bees either, but we need them to survive apparently!

One thing that I definitely missed during the colder months is my mom buying flowers for our house. I guess we kind of got into a routine of having new flowers throughout every two weeks. I am actually fine with fake flowers, but having something like fresh flowers can really help your mood. At least, it has in my case when my mom bought me some very beautiful tulips one day.

I am not just obsessed with sunflowers, I like a variety of flowers like daisies, roses and tulips. I do talk about my love of sunflowers quite a bit and because of that nobody really knows about the others. So, after my mom found out that I adored tulips, she found these $12.99 tulips in a fairly large vase. My dad didn’t really like the price of them but since then we have all become a little obsessed with them. They change every day. They continue to flourish but we’ve been watching one of them because it’s been a little overzealous on how high he becomes that for a while he began to lean down and we have started to make jokes about it like “I’ve stood up all day. I need a break!” My mom and I can be a little weird sometimes

Since having the flowers in my room, I have been looking forward to spring. My room is located by all of our trees and I have really missed the greenery that surrounds me, but I have enjoyed seeing the moon through my window at night.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex

I know you’re probably tired of seeing everybody discuss the royals right now. If you want to ignore this section, you can. I don’t want to spend a lot of time talking about the drama, but I do want to talk about my thoughts on it.

I have been following the British Royal Family since The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were married, so around 2011. My mom has been reading up about them since Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer. And yes, she absolutely hated Camila, The Duchess of Cornwell. I actually do not, mainly because I am a supporter of Anne Boleyn, as she was also a mistress to a senior royal.

For the case of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, I always felt they would be different. They would move into the modern world as royals, but I did not think this would happen at all! When The Queen gave Harry and Meghan the title of “Duke and Duchess of Sussex” was interesting because the last time a royal was given this peerage was Queen Victoria’s uncle Prince Augustus Frederick. Although he had the title of ‘Duke Sussex’ neither one of his wives were allowed to be called a duchess, but what is interesting is that they were not given permission of the crown which at the time of his first wife, George III was still alive. Prince Augustus and his first wife welcomed two children, but were not recognized so they were not awarded any titles as their many cousins.

Prince Harry asked the queen for permission to marry Meghan, but their son Archie does not carry the title of Viscount like say Harry’s uncle Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex’s son James, as he is known as a Viscount.  I understand their right to want to lead a more private life for Archie’s sake, but the separation of leaving as senior royals threw me for a loop! To me, I think this would have been easier on everyone if Harry declined the title of Duke when he and Meghan first married.

When Anne, The Princess Royal first married her first husband, he was offered a title but declined thus their children: Peter and Zara, along with their descendants do not have royal titles. A lot of people will say this happened because Anne is a woman, but at the time of the marriage, Charles was not married at all. She was the only child of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh to wed. Here we have Prince William as the oldest son of The Prince of Wales, married with three children. All three were present when Harry and Meghan married, so why didn’t he say no? A part of me wonders on the fact of possible backlash to the world if Meghan, a biracial woman, wasn’t allowed to be called a duchess. Shrugs.

The Blog Schedule

After what happened while I was doing my A-Z Disability Challenge series, I honestly wanted to give myself a massive break. Since I can’t stop blogging, I figured I needed to find a solution to make it easier and also keep it fun for the both of us. Once January began, I took off for two weeks and do other things that were not related to blogging. It was relaxing, but I did not envision to keep this trend alive for as long as I thought I would. However, I have quite enjoyed myself in these breaks, mostly because I can focus my attention on reading my books in my off time.

The schedule (including a post for Mon, Tues, and Wed) will continue this way until I decide that I need another week for more posts. As of right now, two weeks is doing really good for me. I am still skeptical of this, but I am getting the hang out of it.

I think I am done writing this post now. I thought I would add a few more things about my life, but as I said above, I also have my papaw’s letter to do as well. I think I will include bits about my nephew Nolan in there because I know he’d enjoy it. Well, I hope you are having a great week!

28 Things That Make Me Happy!

Howdy!

Today is a very special day, it is my birthday!

I don’t know about you, but I still love birthdays, especially my own. As much as I really hate being the center the attention for anything, I can make an exception for this occasion. One day of the year for me is a great thing, as long as I don’t let it go to my head too much!

So, for this post I thought I would talk about the things that make me happy. However, I feel I bit off more than I can chew because figuring 28 things at once is a lot when you only have two days to basically get this blog post finished! Originally, I was going to make this longer with pictures for certain things but I figured a link of a post that goes along with it will work even better!

Here are 28 things that make me very happy!

I love spending time with my family! Everybody thinks they’re a comedian and the sole purpose in life is to make you laugh to the point where you have tears coming out of your tears and you feel like you could pee in your pants at the same time, The funny part is that my nephew doesn’t even know he is one yet!

Children are a real weakness for me, but Nolan has become my little buddy. He has a gentle soul and love in his eyes, but has a devilish side too!

Everybody already knows this but I am really into baby names! I have so many notebooks–both digital and coiled wire with paper–of hundreds of names from different countries and spellings! If you’re in need of suggestions for any reason, just let me know!

Something else you might know is that I enjoy blogging a lot. I was never successful at keeping a diary or journal when I was younger because I thought somebody was going to read it… Yeah, this doesn’t make sense to me either!

I love comedy. but I am very strict with it. I really don’t get this generation’s humor. I am just starting to enjoy puns after not understanding it for years! I will talk about my favorite male comedians soon, but you can go ahead and read my top female comediennes though!

Movies are a big thing to me. I like all kinds of different genres, but after some time of basically denying myself of watching romantic films, I am getting back into the groove. My list has increased in the past couple of years.

You know how much I love music! I am actually using the shuffle on Spotify, even though there’s no need for it because I enjoy almost every sort of genre out there. I have been really reliving my childhood days with the tunes I loved listening to back then. So, lately there’s been tons of rap music ranging from the early 1990’s to now!

As much as I hate overthinking, it does have its good points like being able to spot things that most people wouldn’t; the sort of connect the dots concept! This can translate to many different things for me, between the lines of family trees, letters of my family names, and music. I always find that watching Xenia: Warrior Princess and Evanescence’s first album “Fallen” were able to be my starting points into my love of both cinematic and instrumental music. I put them in separate parts because I like the pop-rock cinematic releases like what Tommee Profitt, Hidden Citizens, and Unsecret do, but of course I love Hans Zimmer and James Horner as sometimes I just want something with no words to distract me.

On Tuesday, it was National Cat day so you know I have to squeeze a little spot for our kitties! Even though we have nine cats, I only claim Stormy, Felix and Tavis as my babies. I love them all, but these guys really show me that they love me by staying around if the others are ignoring me!

A second thing that makes me happy about our cats is that I love when they make biscuits and purr against you. It is one thing I miss the most about not being able to sit on the porch with them, because they like to either lay out beside me or right in between my legs and drift off to sleep while I take numerous pictures of them!

Animals in general make me extremely happy! I think watching the Animal Vet shows like Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER and Dr. Oakley Yukon Vet have helped me see that my fear in snakes and even some spiders is dumb. My sister was interested in sharks when she was younger and she saw through the stereotype of the Great Whites, she even made me see them in a different way! Although I on’t see this working on all creatures, more importantly, did you see I said “some” spiders above? There is no way in hell that I will be okay with all of insects but I can never say never though!

There are two things that I enjoy watching at Thanksgiving, one is Gone With The Wind and the other is Westminster dog Show. My parents and I have become a little obsessed with it in the past three years! We all enjoy seeing if our favorite breeds will win their group or the whole thing.

If you were curious which breeds were my favorites, they are: Pit Bulls, Siberian Huskies, Cocker Spaniel, King Charles’ Cavalier Spaniel, and Bernese Mountain.

I am hoping this is the final “animal” section but you never know! Birds actually make very happy. I think they’re all amazing, but I have always been into hawks and Eagles the most. When I was younger, I use to think that parrots and other tropical raptors were annoying, even though they were beautiful. Thankfully, I have changed my outlook on them. Besides watching funny cat videos on YouTube, my second favorite is bird videos!

Let’s talk about something else. Oh, it must be the girly girl in me but I love having flowers in my room. Personally, I have always enjoyed having them but I would be happy with fake ones than real. In the past few months, my mom and I have been displaying lots of roses, sunflowers and daisies. Hopefully by the time spring comes around, I’ll talk her into getting me some cherry blossoms and tulips because those are I love them too! My flower aesthetic board is below for you to check out afterwards!

Despite not liking drawing anymore, I really love painting! Whenever I paint, I feel like I can relax and go at my own pace. I still have the perfectionist mentality sometimes but I am not as bad as I use to be, so I’ll take that!

One thing I think people will probably freak out about, is my love of game shows! I definitely share it among my parents, but I feel like I took it to a whole nother level though because right now I have close to 20 episodes of Jeopardy on the “FUN GAMES” folder that I created several weeks ago! I have thought about talking about this on a future post, would you be interested in it?

Speaking of games, I am watching basketball again. The first Butler game to be televised will be on next Wednesday, which I am so excited but when I saw which NBA team was playing at almost the same time, I felt a bit crushed! This is my third year of watching professional basketball and I have cracked down on the amount of teams this season. I followed Ingram, Ball, and Hart to the New Orleans Pelicans, but I kept the Houston Rockets (even though I’m still unsure of the Harden/Westbrook tag team), Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics.

This might scare you a little, but stuffed animals make me happy! I have a stack of “doggies” as Nolan likes to call them, by my window and I still want to get some shelves in my room so I can proud displaying them but more importantly get them out of the boxes in the closet!

On the day I wrote this post, it was the day before Halloween, so I think it’s only right to discuss my love of chocolate! I wouldn’t say I am a chocoholic but I can get some very strong cravings! Are you taking full advantage of the discounted candy at the stores? If you are curious about what kind I enjoy, click here.

I feel like I should have put this when I talked about music, but dancing is a favorite of mine! I must have been a dancer in my past life because I can definitely get down when I want to. After Blondie’s wedding, my dad and I could totally do it again if it wasn’t for our hurting bodies! 😦

There is something that might sound a bit strange coming from me, but I have been loving HGTV like crazy! It started after the announcement was made about the Brady Bunch house transformation. The date I was originally told that special series was to air was wrong but I got interested with Property Brothers: Forever Home and Christina On The Coast at first, but now I have switched to Good Bones as my main favorite! I actually use to make fun of my parents watching countless episodes of Fixer Upper so the fact that I have like four shows that I watch is karma smacking me in the face really hard!

Something that goes along with this is that I love making this, any idea that comes to me is very clear in my head, my only issue is how do I explain it to my parents, especially my dad because he is the one that apparently gave me this trait but the majority of the stuff I want to accomplish are all disability related. I am still trying to figure out how I can get an semi-large office desk either in my room or probably in Nolan’s playroom since he doesn’t really use it as much.

I have grown to appreciate organization and tidiness I guess as I’ve gotten older, but being able to decorate makes me extremely happy because it gets my creative juices flowing, and the more I plan and set things out, I can also turn those things into future blog posts. So everything kind of works together like that sometimes.

Photography is another love, but I think what makes me unique is that I enjoy coming up the set ups for my blog materials than anything else! I have heard of other bloggers and their frustrations over blog photography, you know I can agree with them on some things but for the most part whenever I am in the zone, I am usually very calm with myself. I think this came with the fact that I have to be in this trance so I can keep myself balanced in my wheelchair, because any frustrations I act out, could lead to disaster! I could fall out of my chair because I’m not focusing on my lower half of my body or worse I can get stuck in a weird position and would need help fixing myself. It might seem like a small thing, but I don’t want either one of my parents watching over me or taking the pictures for me so I don’t end up like that again!

Besides my foot writing and disability in general, there is a weird quirk that makes me happy and that is my love of leggings! I have become known for all of my different colors and patterns! I still love my skulls and there is a pair that is my favorite but unfortunately like everything in my closet they’re starting to be tight around my waist which SUCKS because I’ve had them since probably 2010 and I am not ready to part with them! It will seriously be a sad, sad day when it happens! I’m not promising I won’t cry but you never know!

Since we’re talking about fashion, I didn’t think I would say getting clothes for birthdays or Christmas would be something I would look forward to, but I do! The reason for it is, thanks to the fact of doing those outfit of the day (OOTD) posts on here, really changed my outlook on how I see myself. What was suppose to find a way to fall in love with my arms became something bigger for me, and now I actually look forward to dressing up–whether it’s casual or night out, I know I feel comfortable with my body. If you would like to read more about my journey of doing OOTD posts, you can click here.

I have talked about traits that I was given by my dad but I feel like I should mention one I got from my momma. She has ALWAYS loved books! When I was younger, she would hang out in the living room with her feet up while reading silently to herself with the TV blaring in the same room. This was never a favorite thing of mine when I was little, but at the age of 14, I really became interested in it for the first time and after a long break, I am back to enjoying it again! I like both physical and ebooks, but I have realized I read a lot faster because I’m not too worried about the pages flipping on me or not being able to lift it because it’s so heavy! So for my final thing that makes me happy is finding a good book to get lost in, and the one I’ve been reading lately is Wicked Beat by Olivia Cunning! You can follow me my progress and check out my other books on my Goodreads profile at the tab bar on the right!

Whew! We are done! So, I actually did it in the way I said I wasn’t going to, because I had no time! Technically, this wasn’t too bad to come up with and I think that was what freaked me out in a way. I love doing lists, but this was a long one, plus I included lots of information because I can never go the easy route apparently! I hope you enjoyed the post! Thank you for the birthday wishes too!

Do you still enjoy your birthday? If not, when did it change for you? Can you name all of the things that make you happy with whatever you’re age is? Here’s some advice before you answer, I think it’s all mind over matter!

Life Lately | 10 Years Ago

Howdy!

In 2009, I created my first ever blog. Even though it was purely for school, it become one of the best platforms for me. It seemed to arrive at the perfect time and place considering I was in my last year of high school, quickly approaching college and the rest of the unknown. Unfortunately, after graduation everything pretty much went to hell. The only thing that really kept me going was blogging about life.

I have told this story before, but I give a lot of my credit for even creating a blog in the first place to a decision that my Grammar teacher made at the beginning of the school year; she knew that we would probably receive the new laptops sometime in October, which meant we would only have a short time learning about the site in itself and what kind of assignments she wanted us to do on there. The moment we were allowed to explore and change our layouts, I was hooked! You have to remember though, I was a newly senior in high school, I was thrilled about spirit week, campus visits, football, powder puff, homecoming, prom, etc so having a blog was a great way to express myself at that moment of time. Unfortunately, when we finally got the laptops I had already went on my only campus visit and didn’t even think to talk about it on there after a couple of months had passed; of course now I wish I had blogged about it anyways, but it’s okay.

After two years on my first blog, I thought I needed a change, but here’s the real reason why I went from Blogger to WordPress, I just wanted to be able to comment on Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park’s blog. Yeah, that was inspiration to switch over but honestly I really prefer WordPress than any other platforms. They claim to be easy but I’m not really convinced, but that’s my opinion on that issue. Anywho, what started as a way to do something like that turns into a big thing as far as time-consuming and being very passionate to turn it into my sanctuary.

On Saturday, it will officially be ten years since I first started blogging. It definitely doesn’t feel like it was that long ago that I was sitting at my lowered desk by the door, in complete awe on how tiny these laptops were, and learning how to create my first innocent blog post. I would like to mention thank you very much for reading my posts, leaving me sweet comments, and just inspiring me to keep going on my hard days. You are as part of my journey than the blog in general, so again I say thank you!

If you visit my blog’s Facebook page you can join to get updates to my little celebration. I will be sharing around 10 posts that I published throughout the years, You are welcome to not only read them but I would love to know some of your favorites too!

It’s still strange to think I was being graded for those little assignments honestly! What really gets me is that I never had a lot of pressure of working on them as I have in the past couple of years. I may not be graded in the sense of a school project but you can still get noticed by important people that could see you as a potential of working on something that you talk about on your blog. It’s really cool when this happens, but it also puts tons of pressure on yourself to make sure everything in perfect. As you might know, it’s been a roller coaster ride lately because I try to start a new month on a high note, but somehow in the mist of the first two weeks, it’s like I lose my energy and inspiration to do anything blog related so that part sucks, but I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t be angry or sad about it because maybe all I need is a reset. I still have lots of ideas in my head and on notepad but getting the motivation for more than a few days is pretty difficult. I know I’ll come back but there’s no set time on when that’ll be at the moment so you’ll have to be patient with me.

Oh wait! This might be a strange question, but how are you about moodboards? I have been spending a lot of time on Pinterest, creating boards of color aesthetics, and it has been a lot of fun (and I’m pretty sure I am addicted too!). So I thought I would do my own moodboard, and shockingly it was really fun and therapeutic!

As a fun way to celebrate the weekend’s festivities, I have a challenge for you right now. Can you create one? Instead of maybe focusing on one color, which is the easiest thing to do! I chose to use my sunflower rug my mom got me several months ago as the backdrop. I went by the general colors of a bright yellow and various shades of brown because no two sunflowers are alike in the changing seasons. You can stick with my color scheme or use another prominent hue that you have in the room you’re currently in or just around the house. By the way, I’ll give you bonus points if you do it in purple! Have fun with it though! It doesn’t need a lot of objects to get the point across, but I would like to see more than four or six items together.

Here is my first attempt and now it’s your turn! Share them on my Facebook page please! Click here to be transported to the page, if you haven’t already you can “like” it and if you want to see my posts more frequently, you should also click the “follow” tab and select “see first” so you can keep up with me a lot easier!

What do you think of this idea? Should it be a monthly thing on here?

Nana’s Amaryllis

12651267_1057396750991321_5856221202981827157_n

Happy Thursday everybody!

Today I’m talking about flowers, even though it’s still freaking cold where I am!

If you were born in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s then you’ve probably heard of Chia Pets. They were plants that grew with little water and normal sunlight indoors. I remember the commercials about them coming in different animals like bears, lions, and hippos. Anything that walked on four legs mainly is what I remember. I never had one but always thought they were interesting but I was also raised to not believe a lot of things on TV. Especially those damn commercials, they’ll try to sale you anything!

Well for Christmas, my sister and her now fiancee Brandon got my nana an Amaryllis plant. Since Blondie said, it looked like the plants that they saw in Hawaii over the summer. My nana and I thought the flowers over there were pretty neat! It requires a little more attention than the Chia Pets, but it’s fairly the same on everything else. It can be left inside and only needs to be watered once a day. The good thing about it is that, it never “dies” it’s like a Phoenix. After one dies, it’s reborn and more flowers grow on it. She finally got one to officially bloom after waiting a couple of weeks for it. It grows really fast! She took it out the day after Christmas and it literally had a budge growing from the bottom of the vase. It looked like an artichoke!

I’ve been going over there and helping her out with certain things, she tries to take weekly photos of it and the progress it makes! My nana’s had to use skewers to make sure it doesn’t lean over too much, and I helped her wrap yarn around all four skewers to protect it from falling over sideways! Oh, and I hope you don’t mind the pictures of Adam Lambert in almost every picture. She’s a big fan!

I know most bloggers have obsessions with peonies and cactuses (so does my nana!) but what do you kind of Amaryllis and any other kind of plant trending among us bloggers? What’s your favorite flower(s)?
