Will I Do NaNoWriMo Again This Year?

Untitled

Howdy!

It is almost that time for National Novel Writing Month or  “NaNoWriMo” as some people like to call it. For some writers, they live for this time of the year but for the rest, it’s something that they absolutely dread. I can understand both sides, if you enjoy it, I feel like you are good at being pressured and able to write everyday on your story, but I also know why others fear it too. If you have a very active social or work life at the moment, writing is literally the last thing on your mind.

As for me, I’ve had it in my brain since April, after I wrote my post about not being able to participate in CampNaNoWriMo that I should probably do it, but honestly I don’t see the point in it. I don’t want to force anything that doesn’t want to appear to me in dreams right now, you know what I’m saying?

There is hope though as I am using Pinterest to help me generate the characters and overall setting of my story. I’ve been looking into different people’s photos and have developed a clear picture of my female characters: Angela and Star. I am still having issues with my main character Heath, most because I have a general person in mind but he looks relativity younger than I want him to for my story so I’m trying to keep an open mind to other messy blondes. And Brace is my “complicated” character and he’s always been that way, so finding him has been quite a challenge for me! The others will come eventually at least that what I’m hoping will happen!

Another thing that I’m busy looking into is how to do outlines. I feel like finding the right way to figure out how I want things to go, is the key to my success on completing my first draft. I have a board on my profile for my favorite blog posts, and since November has been coming up, other writers have been writing posts of tips and how-to’s for aspiring NaNo rookies. I have three blog posts that talk creating an outline for their stories and I will have them listed below!

Now if you are thinking about joining NaNo, I have some posts I did last year, if you’d like to look into them. I wrote three updates and I had shared some of the websites I was using to attempt keep my pace together, maybe they will help you out too! I’d like to make a point to say, that I didn’t make it to the end of the month and I explain why that happened in the final post, but I was still fairly impressed with myself on what I did get done.

Am I Still Working On My Novel | 2 Week Mark | Am I Finished Or Not

Before I go, I just want to say good luck to everyone that is doing NaNoWriMo this year! You may not hit your word count everyday, nor will you like everything you’ve been working on, but I can definitely say that’s all part of the process! After it’s all over, you can revisit it, and you’ll see that you produced something awesome. 🙂

Have you ever thought about joining the NaNoWriMo party? What is keeping you back from writing your story?

Why I Didn’t Participate In #CampNaNoWriMo

Untitled

Howdy!

I know I said that I wouldn’t publish a new blog post for today, but I decided that I needed to put one up today because it’s Monday and we’re starting a new week and a brand new month tomorrow.

Back in November, I decided to participate in National Novel Writing Month, or simply “NaNoWriMo” which is where aspiring authors attempt to write out their novels in thirty days. If you want to reach the main goal of 100,000 words, you have to follow a certain word count, but when I started on it, I realized that I wasn’t going to be able to hit that quota every single day, so I made a decision of whatever amount of words I did was better than nothing at all. Unfortunately, I didn’t last very long. By the time week three came around, I was basically over it beyond belief. I actually do this while working on blog posts too. Everytime I get past a certain point, my brain just shuts down to where I don’t want to do anything, much less write anything.

I had made plans to attempt to do “Camp NaNoWriMo” this month, which goes on twice a year (the other is July and we all know that won’t happen!) as I was told, apparently it’s the same thing, but you have more freedom so you don’t have to follow the rules of the challenge as you would in the month of November. I wanted to work on my outline a little bit more before I jumped back into this, but I didn’t have the energy to work on it. I actually found a lot of different articles on Pinterest to hopefully look into sometime and write out some of their helpful tips and tricks into my notebook, but I need energy to do all of this and like I said, I don’t have it at the moment.

Here were some of the pieces I found that I’m hoping to look at soon and I thought I’d share them with you so you could get an insight into what I’m looking for right now.

And there are things on my Pinterest board that talk about things like flaws, how to kiss, and there are important ones like how to write characters that have ADHD and/or who are deaf, which have been very helpful since my story does discuss disability. I’m still hoping to find something about writing characters with different physical disabilities, because I have a couple of characters with two different noticeable disabilities in my story that I’d like to showcase but instead of showing them as burdens or as the comic relief, they have a powerful presence to themselves that will hopefully change the reader’s perspective of the disabled community as a whole.

One thing that I really need help on is finding more information about the ins and outs about bunkers. I have thought of changing my original location with another that I’ve recently heard about, but I need to know how to recreate the atmosphere of a bunker and community within it. So if anybody knows of good links that could help me, please send them to me.

Did you participate in Camp NaNoWriMo? If so, how did you do? Do you have any advice for those who have issues getting going in the first place? Plus, does anybody else have like a certain week in a month where they have a hard time concentrating?

8 Characters We Miss On The Vampire Diaries!

In two weeks the new season of The Vampire Diaries comes back to us!! After how season six ended the way it did, I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes me a bit to wrap my head around that Elena (Nina Dobrev) Gilbert won’t be returning for the new episodes. If you’re a die-hard TVD fan like me, you’re feeling all sorts of sadness still, because we saw the end of Jeremy, Elena, Tyler, Liv, Luke, Jo (plus the twins!) and Kai–but let’s be honest not all of us are gonna miss him!–at the end of season! I think it’s fair to assume that season seven will be a very dark time for all of our remaining and new characters living in Mystic Falls, Virginia.

I wanted to make up a list of our favorite characters that were killed in the past seasons:

Katherine Pierce –  (played by Nina Dobrev season 1-5)

Her real name was Katerina Petrova, she changed her name to Katherine Pierce in 1800s whenever she moved to Mystic Falls and met the Salvatore brothers. She’s already had a rough life dealing with brothers.  Before she turned herself into a vampire she was running from the Mikaelson brothers in the 1400s when Klaus wanted to kill her to break the sun and moon curse…

As I’ve seen by reading comments on YouTube and Facebook, everybody seemed to love Katherine a LOT more than her doppelgänger Elena Gilbert. She was a very strong character. She didn’t let her emotions control her and didn’t care of the circumstances of her actions. Season two and five were the years of Kat. You got to see what made Katherine be who she was during these times. Those were some best story lines, and as much as I hated season 5 I can say that with a smile on my face. When they brought in the character Nadia, I thought I’d never see the day we’d see Katherine almost act like a mortal. She brought out her emotions that we didn’t think she had left in her body, it was awesome!

Jenna Sommers – (played by Sara Canning seasons 1-2)

Let’s be honest, everybody that has watched TVD since the very first episode and in almost every flashback with Aunt Jenna in it, you are crying and wishing this character was back! To a lot of fans, this was one of our first big “murder” in Mystic Falls. She was one character that we can all agree didn’t deserve to die by the hands of Klaus Mikaelson. After Jenna was killed, we all fell in love with Alaric and felt bad for him because we were hoping they’d be the first married couple on the show. Now after the ending of this past season, Alaric is an unlucky person.

Elisabeth Forbes – (played by Marguerite MacIntyre seasons 1-6)

Okay, I’ll be honest I didn’t cry as much as I sat basically pleading to my TV for Stefan and Caroline to kiss again. Sheriff Forbes was one of those characters that was a parent and maybe the only likeable and responsible parent of the series. Unfortunately this past season, she died of cancer and it was so heartbreaking about the bond of a mother-daughter of the show, it was just heartbreaking! Caroline turned off her humanity and all hell broke loose! Almost as bad as Stefan and Damon’s mommy coming back from a 1905 prison world! I like how we went from one bad family, to a good one, and back to another bad one within one year. We will miss you Liz!

Lexi Branson – (played by Arielle Kebbel season 1)

Lexi! Even though she only had one episode in the first season where she was actually alive (because Damon killed her!) she’s been a favorite character of the fans because of the friendship between she and Stefan. She saved him in his early Ripper days. She’s came back in different ghostly ways to help him. Whether it was to get him out of his own head, talk to him about his thing about Caroline. Which I have to say, when every Lexi/Stefan fan found out that she was for the relationship of those two, it was like Yay! And then everybody bawled when she basically sacrificed herself when the otherside was collapsing on itself! Strong woman/vampire right there!

Rose – (played by Lauren Cohen season 2)

The character of Rose started off as one that hardly anybody liked in season two. Because mostly she and Trevor captured Elena as an act to stop running from the Mikaelson brothers. Which didn’t end very well for her brother? Am I right? There was some connection between those two! Anyways, after that mess happened and we finally met Elijah for the first time. Rose and Damon had some sort of love connection and then she got bit by a werewolf and she was killed by Damon, which honestly it wasn’t a horrible way to die because there was no cure for it. Klaus certainly wasn’t going to heal her after what she did a 1,000 years ago! Hell no!

Nadia Petrova – (played by Olga Fonda season 5)

I’ll be honest, Nadia and Mama Salvatore were two characters that I wanted to learn more about from the very beginning, but never thought we’d ever see them in vampire form! I loved the storyline between Nadia and Katherine. In the beginning, it was a little weird but as it progressed and Katherine (we) found out that Petrova family were part of the Travelers coven, and once Katherine had taken the cure for vampirism and was slowly but surely dying, Nadia found a Traveler witch to give a spell to help her switch bodies with Elena. When Tyler Lockwood bit Nadia and she died, it was so heartbreaking to see THAT end! Katherine so badly loved her baby girl and wanted to keep her but after being on the run for 500 years, She became very bitter and greedy, but she really regretted not leaving Mystic Falls with Nadia whenever she took over Elena’s body.

Anna – (played by Malese Jow season 1)

Anna, the young vampire. She was another early vampire we got to meet in the first season while she started a friendship that grew into a relationship with the little Gilbert. Honestly, she was a good friend for Jeremy, but she was slightly annoying for me! I don’t know why but when she was killed, I was somewhat happy! I know, I know! She’s came back in ghostly ways from season two through five, especially after Jeremy could see dead people after Bonnie brought him back to life at the end of season four? Five? I don’t remember, is that bad?

Silas – (played by Paul Wesley season 5)

Silas, he was very interesting! When this plot with him and Qetsiyah was put into place, along with the drama with Bonnie being the anchor. Elena forcing Katherine to take the damn cure and she finding Nadia. Everything was too much at one time for me, because it took me five episodes before I could get myself to look forward to a Thursday night. Once Qetsiyah was dead, I enjoyed my show again! The reveal at the end of season four of who was “Silas” really and finding out that his shadow self was Stefan. That totally surprised me! I HATED that ending, because Silas threw Stefan inside the vault and dropped off the cliff and into the water – for the WHOLE summer! And it took everybody three episodes until they released he was down there! WHAT THE HELL?

Who will you be missing this season of TVD?

That Uncomfortable Disney Crush

So ever since ABC Family went on one of their classic animated Disney movie weekends, I went and I taped Pocahotas, The Little Mermaid, and Mulan. I don’t really like Peter Pan and I completely missed Dumbo so these were left. I love all three of these movies, but there are two weird things about them though. I kind of like the second movies of Pocahotas and The Little Mermaid more than the originals. I love the first Mulan movie, but I don’t think I’ve seen the second one as much as I’ve seen the rest. The second thing is and I’m pretty sure I am not the only one who is like this, but I grew up having a bit of a crush on three different characters in these movies. I mean, I was utterly in love with how these guys looked that there might actually be a reason why dark hair and blue eyes have always been a weakness for me.

Prince Eric was always a handsome guy, whether he’s just a drawing or not, I always thought that. He just seemed like he cared and instead of finding a bride by their looks. Since he met Ariel by hearing her voice, the sunlight was basically shielding her face, and so he just the melody of her voice stuck in his head and yeah, you guys know the story. At least, you should know it. Even in the second movie, he was a hottie! He was married and had a daughter, he was still pretty cute to me! Watching him fight to get his daughter and wife from Ursula’s baby sister, those scenes just made me all happy inside and I know that’s weird to say but it’s true. The second guy on my list of when I developed a crush on him, just makes the whole blonde hair and blue eye thing just worse. I had a minor thing for John Smith, but funny enough he wasn’t the only one. I also had a pretty big crush on John Rolfe from the second movie, both of played with my heart. I remember when I got into the first movie, I was probably already into the Backstreet Boys, so the whole blonde and blue eyes were already a damn weakness for me, but it’s bad when a character in an animated movie gets you too! I think I liked John Smith the most because he was nice enough to see past what she was and treated her like she was apart of him. I still don’t know why I like John Rolfe so much though.

It’s so weird that after all these years, after not being able to watch some of these movies, how much I still know the words of what each character says and the songs. It’s so crazy on how it’s just muscles knowing what the next thing is, my brain doesn’t know a single thing but everything in my body does! I literally just finished up the first Mulan movie and from the time the viewers meet Captain Li Shang, all of the girls get sucked in the cuteness of his face and voice. Now fast forward about ten to thirteen years, to watch the show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and recognizing one of the actors’ voices but never knowing how you know it so well. One of the actors that used to be featured on the show, B.D. Wong. Yeah, he voiced the character Li Shang in the movies. I just found that out tonight. I think it’s sadder to say that this character is cuter though. Sorry dude! I liked Shang’s sense of humor and his will to fight and protect. There’s another weakness coming to light. Another thing that is slightly disturbing, I actually enjoyed the shirtless scene. To anyone who wonders why I like guys with huge masculine shoulders, blame this guy! I can sit here and talk about this dude all day, but I did love the friendship/relationship he formed with Mulan in the first movie.

So let’s be honest, since I was so honest about my old and apparently still crushes on these Disney movies, did you ever fall for any of them? If you liked them for the actors who brought them to life, that’s fine too! Here are a few characters that you or your kids were probably obsessed with and you were sitting on the couch drooling over too. Tarzan, Gaston, Beast (in human form), Prince Philip (from Sleeping Beauty), etc. Come on, tell me, I’m not judging as long as you’re judging me.
