Tune Tuesday | Sweden ’17

Hi ūüôā

We’re almost finished with this year’s Tune Tuesday! It doesn’t seem real that it’s already ending, but I did shorten my lineup than the normal three-four months. Despite adding only two new countries, I took out the ones that I talked about last year because I couldn’t figure out what to share for this lineup.

Sweden is like one of my favorite countries to talk about though; they have a wide array of different music that it literally becomes a music lover’s dream! If I had a “music bucket list” of places I’d travel to just to discover the music in each country, it would literally go “Canada, England, Sweden, Australia, and Netherlands.” It’s a dream job I’ve always had in my head!

The first band I’m going to discuss for Sweden is In Flames. They sort of signed up for the Tune Tuesday posts when their song “The Truth” blew up last year! I loved that song and honestly still do! I like to see different songs in other perspectives, so even if the song is talking about outcasts or something of that nature, I tend to see it for people for disabilities. I’ve always been able to do that, I wish I could do that for rap music instead of the other way around.¬†The band is made of five members: Anders, Bj√∂rn, Peter, Niclas, and Joe. They’ve released 12 albums since 1994 and are forefathers of melodic death metal bands. They released “Battles” in the middle of 2016.

The second band I have to share is Amon Amaranth.¬†Amon Amaranth are a heavy metal discussing Viking mythology in their music. They were created two years after In Flames, 1992, they were probably influenced by the band. The group consists of Johan on vocals, Ted Lundstr√∂m plays the bass, Johan S√∂derberg and Olavi Mikkonen are both on guitars and Joche Wllgren does the drums. They have released 10 albums with the most recent “Jomsviking” came out in early 2016.

Have you heard of either In Flames or Amon Amaranth? Do you have a bucket list of places you’d only visit to discover the music of that country?

Best & Worst In Film | 2015-16

I hope you are not tired about me discussing movies with you guys! I sort of wanted to do this post last month but I just wasn’t happy with it so I trashed it. I was talking to¬†my fellow blogger Shona and she had mentioned on Twitter, that she was going to list the movies she watched in 2016 ¬†so, she kind of talked me back into publishing this post! If you’re just as much as a movie junkie, you should check out her post too!

It is actually a lot harder to talk about all of the movies I watched in 2016 without including the ones that came out in 2015 that I had seen at the same time! I think that list was larger – I watched a total of 25 films while I only had 11 that were released in 2016! I didn’t just have a good year of movies, I also watched different documentaries starting from¬†Living With Lincoln¬†and¬†Packed In a Trunk¬†to¬†Finding Vivian Maier.¬†They were all very educational and inspiring!

To make things easier on myself, the draft of how I originally wanted to write this post wasn’t deleted yet so I used it as a guide as I even included how I wanted to rate them! Sometimes I can be very clever like that! I also have divided them up into groups so it would be easier to read!

My love/hate relationship with drama films!

If anybody knows me well enough, I am purely an action based kind of girl so to watch nine films in the drama category is just crazy! Of course, we have to talk about the four films that I loved wholeheartedly and they were The Danish Girl, Woman In Gold, Brooklyn, and The Age Of Adaline. These made me feel so many emotions while I silently watched them. I still think about these films on a weekly basis!

Let’s talk the surprises of the bunch!

I’ve one to be very picky about the movies I want to see and I’ll explain that in a minute, but I had three films that weren’t on my list at first but I kind of fell in love with them after I saw them. They were¬†Criminal, The Last Witch Hunter, Ricki and the Flash, Suicide Squad,¬†and¬†Fantastic Four.¬†These were all action/adventure, (except for the one drama film) which as I said I love, but I didn’t think I would enjoy them! Criminal was a film that I hadn’t heard about and it came out last January I think, but I’m not a fan of Kevin Costner either so that might’ve been why; whereas with Fantastic Four there was a lot of chatter about it, mostly because it’s a reboot of the movies that came out in 2005 and 2007. A lot of people didn’t like it, and I have a theory of why; the way it was presented, it basically gave you a lot more background information and the action-y scenes were so short. I actually gave this a 5/10 rating in my first post but it’s a close six now!

It gave me chills!

I don’t know about you, but I love watching movies while lying in bed or on the couch with a blanket. When you watch as many movies as I do, a blanket is something that keeps me relaxed so I don’t tense up my back throughout watching it. However, the one bad thing about having a blanket on top of you while watching an action film is that you can hot, very quickly. At least I do whenever I watch one!

However, getting the chills afterwards can be the good thing! The films that about killed me (in a good way) were¬†Triple 9, London Has Fallen, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Furious 7, Insurgent, Hitmam: Agent 47, X-Men: Apocalypse¬†and¬†Mockingjay Part 2.¬†That’s a nice list in general, isn’t it? All were good in their own ways! I can’t say anything else about them!

Out of ten, you are under five!

Can we all agree that cringing throughout a film is considered a bad thing?

I could be honest and discuss the three films that were under the five rating on my first post, but I can’t. There’s only one that just sucked and I wish I hadn’t watched it. I’ll explain a little bit, back in 2014 a film called¬†Pompeii ¬†and it wasn’t included in the post I had made up of movies I wanted to see that year, because I thought I would hate it.

I honestly can’t watch any type of film that has some historical references in it. That’s why there are a lot of classics like¬†Braveheart¬†and¬†Troy¬†that I cannot get myself to watch no matter how hard my dad tries!

When I watched¬†Pompeii¬†though, I don’t know what happened. I ended up loving the crap out of it. I was more worried about if the characters would get the chance to escape the eruption and I think that’s why I sort of ignored it at first because the main character always gets away and the girl and they live happily ever after. The fact that my expectations were wrong made me happy! It’s turned into one of my top five favorite films ever!

Not all movies can get so lucky though, when a family friend brought down¬†Gods Of Egypt¬†after it was released on DVD, I was still pretty hesitant about watching it at all. I didn’t include it in the coming soon post I put up last January, but I still wanted to give it a shot because I thought it would surprise me like¬†Pompeii¬†did just two years before.¬†I was wrong – it was awful! Well, if you’re only looking at the action sequences it’s not that bad, but since I’m like this big Ancient Egypt fan since I was like 8 years old. I’ve seen about every special on both History and Smithsonian channels plus read so many books and magazines articles about the mummification process, their afterlife, and Pharaohs! If you need any information about anything in those categories, I’m your go-to girl!

So when I watched this, I remembered the angst I felt while watching the¬†Tut¬†special on Spike that premiered like two years prior! Whoever thought of putting Gerard Butler as an Egyptian God was a completely idiot! The whole cast about pissed me off! You have Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau playing the God Horus?!?! Oh my god! Sorry, can’t do it anymore!

What do you think were the best and/or worse movies that came out in 2016? Or 2015?

What Do You Watch In The Winter?

I think one of the most difficult things you have to get through are the hiatuses of your favorite TV shows. Ever since I started watching different shows as a weekly thing I haven’t been able to think about what could happen to my favorite characters and what could change within the actual show. It doesn’t matter if it’s for winter or summer breaks, but let’s get real here summer breaks are the worst; it’s not like you’re waiting like a month, you’re waiting from whatever day in May it goes off until either the end of September or beginning of October for the season to begin.

I know I’m not alone in how I feel because both of my parents go through their own withdrawals with their shows they watch too! Recently, I’ve been basically hoardering some of my favorites into my DVR (and my folk’s side too!) to get me through the winter break. I know, I’ve been talking a lot about shows but I also do the same with films too! Sometimes it doesn’t matter if I’ve already seen it, hated or loved it, and will probably only watch it that one time but I will have stored into my DVR for safe keeping in case that once in a blue moon comes along!

I was asked to create a list of both movies and TV shows that can be streamed on any device you use whether that’s your phone or television. If you want to know more information about maybe getting a better connection using multiple devices, you should look into Luma‘s customizable home surround wifi system. ¬†I do think it’s fair to say that I went a little random with my choices. If I was allowed more than six I would have added¬†Hunting Hitler, The Vampire Diaries¬†and¬†Toy Story.¬†I just went with what I know I’ve been obsessed with this past year, so that’s my excuse!

I still think my picks are pretty interesting! If anybody knows me well enough, you can say these practically spell “Meghan” all over them! You should already know about why I would add both¬†X-Men: Days Of Future Past¬†and¬†Supergirl!¬†I know I’ve discussed¬†The Golden Girls¬†recently when I figured out how much I am like Dorothy than I wanted to find out! The other three were sort of random picks though!

I choose¬†White Oleander¬†because it’s one of the first films that I remember watching as a young girl, even though it’s not the most ideal for someone under the age of 13 but oh well! It’s also the film that literally made me afraid of Michelle Pheiffer, not because of the role she portrayed but she just looks very intimating in general! I know I can’t be the only one who thinks this, am I? I can honestly say it’s one of the films that I can be in both a good or bad mood and still watch the whole thing in one day! The other film is¬†The Theory Of Everything¬†and I think it’s an amazing movie. I will literally go out of my way to get more people to watch it. If I can get my mom to watch it I would, but she’s not interested in British films as I am, plus I don’t think should handle the science and disability themes it discusses in it.

My last TV show I placed on the slot is¬†The Tudors¬†which I know can be streamed on demand, because that’s how I was able to watch it! I will say, I liked it so much that I would actually buy the entire box set too and I’m not going to lie, if I ever do that or was ever given that as a present I’d probably cry my heart out! Also if you love Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Natalie Dormer, and/or Henry Cavil, you’ll love this show just trust me!

What do you like to watch during the hiatuses? Do you go back and rewatch the current season’s episodes?¬†

December Playlist

I’ve decided to make this the last post of 2016! If you have been following the last year’s monthly playlists you are a beast! Even after losing Spotify back in May, I seriously considered not doing it anymore, but I think the main reason why I continued is because I feel like I forget a lot of different music once the year is up or whenever radio just stops playing it constantly. Music is an everlasting cycle so I may like this or that but the next day or week my whole taste just switches on me! I can even confuse myself somedays too!

I thought about doing a “Top 10” songs, but I realized that would be really time consuming and I really need to focus my attention on upcoming posts for January, which starts in four days! How crazy is that?! So I decided to post it on my blog’s Facebook page as a bonus!

Every month I do a “song of the month” somewhere on this post and since my brain is literally going through every song I’ve heard in this year alone I figured I’d put up a different type of song. I said in my last playlist that I would probably list a couple Christmas songs at the bottom of the playlist. I seriously thought I would do that but only include one song because I know some people have had enough of Christmas music and I apologize for this, but this is my papaw’s favorite composer and jazz musician and I thought it would be perfect to put it on this post in his memory!

Now let’s get into my December playlist!

Summary | Best Of 2016

It is a little strange to be saying bye to 2016, but in a way I’m actually kind of happy about it because this year sucked…

Well, that’s sort of a lie because I think it started out with good intentions especially with the opportunities I was given at the beginning of the year. Next month will be my first year anniversary writing for Disability Horizons and despite not getting paid for my pieces, I still consider it work. I like thinking of it that way, as long as I keep the pressure at a minimum. When January officially started, I was asked to become a Disability Editor for Bloggeration Magazine. I wrote four or five different articles for that site before our leader decided to close it down for good in June. I was very upset about it, but it was a fun experience and look forward for any more fun opportunities in the new year!

Of course, there was all of the bad stuff that happened in the beginning of the year. I think it’s fair to say that January was the calm before the storm because I honestly don’t remember much of February or March. My family lost three members this year. My papaw, my great-uncle Bill, and a grandson to my great-grand uncle PM all died within months of each other. I actually got to meet PM at my papaw’s funeral and man was he tall! Once I figured out who he was I could hear my papaw talk about the two of them playing basketball in a basement (my papaw was also pretty tall too!) in my head! I have to say from February to about April is a bit of a blur.

In May, I got one heck of a surprise! Back in January, the band Five Finger Death Punch finally released their tour dates and Evansville was on that list and I basically had a cow, I remembered I screamed because I was so excited! And then by the end of February, I started to realize that my chances of going to their concert were slim and I had prepared myself for the worst and my mom had told me during that last week that I probably wouldn’t be able to go despite the fact that I was trying to save my money up! There was no reason behind it, but I figured if things had stayed the way they were going with papaw throughout March and April, I thought that would be their reason why I wouldn’t be able to go, because family comes first.

By the beginning of May, a family friend was about to get married later that month and my dad had said, “well, why don’t we go out Tuesday” because I hadn’t went out shopping in a while and the night before I was looking on the different shops I knew our mall had, I was busy looking on their dresses and my friend Brittany started messaging me on Facebook for about an hour. It was a nice chat too! The next day, after arguing with my dad about which wheelchair to take–despite that the one we use has a seatbelt on it, my dad suddenly wanted me in another chair–I couldn’t take my electric wheelchair because it won’t keep charge anymore. So once we picked up my papaw’s old chair, which is huge – seat wise and uncomfortable we made our way to Evansville.

I knew the day we were heading to the mall was the same day as the concert, because the little advertisements would pop up practically everyday reminding me that I wasn’t going to it. However, I remember while we were driving around that maybe we’ll see the tour bus and at that point, I was fine if that was all I saw of them!

I thought we’d eat at the mall, so when we pulled into the Shake ‘n Steak parking lot I was a bit confused but happy as crap because it’s one of my favorite places to eat! We got seated and looked through our meals. I always get the same thing except for a different milkshake. We hadn’t been there for maybe 15 minutes and I get pretty nosy whenever a crowd starts to form at the door, I look over and the time I do this I see Brittany peeking her head through and I was completely in shock. I kept repeating to my mom “I was just talking to her last night!” and she sat down at our table next to my dad… Don’t worry he didn’t steal her food! I am a very quiet person and I am the worst when it comes to being out in public! To make things better though, everybody else was just as quiet as me!

After we were finished with our meal, well technically Brittany was still eating because her food got there later than ours. When she was going a bit slower my mom gave dad her camera and I thought she was just wanting a selfie so I kind of moved over towards her but Brittany grabbed my attention away for a second and started to unravel one hell of a surprise. I quickly realized why my dad was holding my mom’s phone was because somebody needed to get my reaction. (If you want to read what happens next, I’ve included both posts at the bottom.)

By the start of the summer months, things started to calm down again. We celebrated my papaw’s birthday in June and my sister and future brother-in-law went to Las Vegas for a week! I started¬†Game Of Thrones¬†and totally regret that decision! When August came around, I started to find inspiration for blog posts in a variety of things! I started to count money on my own with the help of my nana. Speaking of blogging, sometime in the summer I finally hit that 100,000 overall views! I was very proud and thankful for all the support I’d been getting lately! I decided to read the Harry Potter series, got through two books! The end of September I started talking about my cousin Kristi’s pregnancy on my blog! I revealed the gender: a boy! I shared her baby shower and recently wrapped presents for the little tyke to make up for the baby shower and Christmas!

For October, my nana and I had our fill of different Halloween crafts to choose from and somehow we ended up doing four projects! Pinterest is the best place to discover things to do for the upcoming holidays and this was no exception! She even surprised me when she was coming up with her own projects to do in both November and December! We definitely did more than I figured we would once the year started to calm down a bit… She already wants to find things to do for Valentine’s Day!

We do have some goals for the new year, a lot of it involves family history and I think that’ll keep our focus for a while and we’re going to have figure out some more things to do so I can share on here! You know there will be more of the monthly playlists, nails of the month, OOTDs, DIYs, and photo diaries! Of course, I’ll be talking about everything wedding, as my sister will be getting married next summer! So I hope you all are ready for the new stuff coming along here soon!

Here are some of my favorite or memorable posts of 2016!

I have to say, I’ve been very proud of the material I’ve managed to put up this year. Despite all of the sadness that happened, I also had a lot of good stuff happen and I definitely wanted to share a mixture of everything that went down in 2016. I put my heart and soul into these posts and I hope I continue down the road of giving you, my readers, something that you’re going to love and enjoy reading too!

What would you like to see more of in 2017? What were your favorite post(s)?
