This week is just full of entertainment. Between the month’s last Tune Tuesday and then I uploaded the second part of the films that come out for the rest of the year earlier in the week. Lots of music and trailers in one week!
This month I also spent a couple of days hanging out with my sister and future brother-in-law. As we were driving back to her apartment, we were listening to Taylor Swift since she decided to finally put up her music online! And then out of nowhere the last song we heard in the car was “Despecito” with Luis Fonsi, Justin Bieber and Daddy Yankee which is a lot better than I expected to be!
We made cupcakes, watched movies, and unfortunately I had to hear a lot of rap and country music in the process. I don’t listen to either genre as much as these two do, so being around them without my iPod was somewhat torture but I did get lucky while Blondie and I were busy decorating the cupcakes because we were hearing like the old school songs. Wait, I can’t believe I have to say that now! Is 2007-09 old school? Anyways we were jamming out to “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” by Soulja Boy and “Birthday Sex” by Jeremiah. We were having a great time!
In the Spotify playlist I decided to put the rest of the music by the artists and bands included this year’s Tune Tuesday, so in case I don’t put up a post for July, which will probably happen after dealing with the whole wedding festivities coming up. So I just figured it would be simpler for me to do that! The only country that isn’t on the playlist is Poland, because the band I talk about next week isn’t on Spotify at all.
My sister likes Mike Stud so I decided to share a song that I somewhat liked on the day we made cupcakes. We also watched a few weird things on YouTube that I’m having the hardest time explaining to you all.
We are now talking about Norway, a country that I’ve been slowly finding interest. It’s actually on my Top 20 list to visit on my bucket list!
When I tried to figure the lineup for my Tune Tuesday, I thought I’d put out the word that I was searching for all kinds of music from Norway and surprisingly, I had somebody tweet me back on Twitter with like a nice selection of artists but since I didn’t write them out so not only did I lose the list but the person who sent it to me! Unfortunately the artist that I told myself to not forget is actually Danish, not Norwegian! So I’m forced to only talk about one person!
Alan Walker is an upcoming DJ, he’s been finding some recent success with his song “Faded” that came out in 2015, but I had only heard it at the end of last year! The version that I was listening to was remixed by Dutch DJ Tiesto with the title “Northen Lights Remix” since he’s done another remix. The song was played roughly everywhere! I think I heard it every hour, seven days a week. It’s been remixed by other DJs like Dash Berlin and Slushii. The most recent song I’ve heard on the radio is “Alone” and it was remixed by Belgian DJ Lost Frequencies. I don’t like it as much as “Faded” but it is growing on me so that’s a good sign!
Have you heard of Alan Walker’s music? Are there any more Norwegian musicians I need to keep an eye out for next year’s lineup?
I am back with the second part of the movies I would like to see in 2017! I’m starting to find a way to put up both posts to start their sections, however I’ve found it’s best to not be too organized because whenever I go to look up each one on YouTube, sometimes the trailers are not available and then I feel stuck. I only share the ones that trailers out, that way in case other people have no idea what I am talking about, they can watch it afterwards!
Honestly though, I have only seen two of the films I listed at the beginning of the year. They are Beauty and the Beast (my sister has claimed Belle as her favorite and yet she did not watch it with us – she hates British accents!) and the other was Finding Dory. This spring has been a roller coaster so I haven’t pushed to see anything. It’ll be around September I might actually get to make a dent into my list, at least I’m hoping so! If you would like what I added onto part 1 you can read that here and I hope you enjoy this list too!
Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 17th) starring Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr. and Zendaya
I would be lying if I didn’t said I’m still unsure about this film. Granted I loved the fact that Iron Man brought Spider-Man into the whole fighting scenes in Captain America: Civil War but I still love Jake Gyllenhaal as Peter Parker. I mean, he looked like nerd, not so much on the high school student but you get the gist. I’m actually surprised with myself though because sometimes I like the reboots, but I am just iffy about this one. I’m also not a big fan of Tony Stark either so that might be another reason why I’m feeling all weary about it.
Atomic Blonde (July 17th) starring Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, and John Goodman
I saw this trailer back in late March and fell in love with it immediately. I saw it after bawling my eyes for the new Logan trailer. I still don’t know what it’s about, but I love action movies especially with badass characters in it. Let’s be honest though, anything where Charlize is kicking somebody’s ass is usually pretty damn good! And that’s enough for me. Oh, and James McAvoy’s in it too!
The Dark Tower (August 4th) starring Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey)
As I’ve heard on Twitter that this was based off of a book? It looks like it was, that’s for sure! I found it to be interesting that Idris is essentially the “good” guy and Matthew McConaughey’s character isn’t. I mean, these two are often flip flopped in their roles but I like it though. I think it looks pretty interesting!
Detroit (August 4th) starring John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, and Kaitlyn Dever)
I was unaware of this film until I actually saw it on Wikipedia’s list of films being released this year. It has the feel of a biopic essentially, based on a true story of what happened in Detroit in the early 70’s. A section sadly I’m not familiar with so I’m betting I would enjoy this!
Wind River (August 4th) starring Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner
Sometimes on the captions included on YouTube, beside the actors that’s featured on the film can say what category the movie is in, well I had been seeing “thriller” for the past two weeks and then I watched the trailer and thought it was interesting. I think it’s like a drama/thriller, kind of like Side Effects and The Girl On The Train.Â
The Glass Castle (August 11th) starring Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts
I read either at the end of the actual trailer or somewhere that this film was based off a book, so I think I might hold out seeing it and read the book first, but it does look good. Again, Woody Harrelson is in it so it’s going to be good!
The Hitman’s Bodyguard (August 18th) starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Gary Oldman
This looks like it’s going to be absolutely hilarious! Let’s be honest both Ryan Reynolds and Sam Jackson are funny as crap, but it’s a comedy mixed in with an action film. I’ve found a few of these over the years that seem like a good mix but I end up don’t liking as much as I thought I would, so despite thinking it looks good, I can’t say anything indefinitely that it’ll be great, I’m hoping for it nevertheless though!
American Assassin (September 15th) starring Dylan O’Brien, Michael Keaton, and Sanaa Lathan
I think I just put this film on here because of Dylan O’Brien and Sanaa Lathan. I do love these types of movies though, they put a LOT of fight scenes in and gives you an insight into the mindset of training too! Just watching the trailer made me want to know more, and then I found out it was based off a book and that kind of made me want to purchase the book first, like the other one!
Victoria and Adbul (September 22nd) starring Judi Dench and Ali Fazal
I think I might’ve started a problem. If I saw this, I would literally have seen three different women play Queen Victoria in the last year or so! Emily Blunt was in The Young Victoria (2009) Judi Dench plays the older version of her after the death of her beloved Prince Albert in this film, and last year I started watching Victoria on PBS played by Jenna Coleman. I still think this looks very interesting though!
Justice League (November 17th) starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher
I had to hold off on putting this one on the first post. I was very shocked to see the trailer of this like a week after they released the first promo for Wonder Woman in February I think. I’m still unsure about Ezra Miller playing the movie screen version of The Flash. I still think Grant Gustin would have been better, but you know! I’m excited to see Ben Affleck as Batman again, and really glad Jason Momoa is Aquaman!
Wonder (November 17th) starring Julia Roberts, Jacob Tremblay, and Owen Wilson
I saw this trailer circling around Facebook after it was first released, but I didn’t give in to it because I figured it was one of those sad commercials, which in a way I was right. I still cried but it was because the story itself seems very cutsy and inspiring! I’m just happy it comes out at the last of the year so I can watch it in peace once spring comes around!
What are you looking forward to the most? Have you seen any of the movies I included in the first post in January?
June 8th was a BIG day for the ladies of Krewella! They released their new EP called “New World” which had part 1 right next to it, which means we’ll probably be getting another one either sometime later this year or early 2018. They released an EP last year called “Ammunition” that I had a lot of fun reviewing considering I had no Spotify whatsoever. They put up their songs on their YouTube/Vevo account, which is what they did for the seven songs included in this sucker!
Jahan and Yasmin released one of these songs earlier this year, “Team” and the second single “Be There” went out last month, but I will go in order of the setlist and review them that way! Krewella generally does house, dubstep, techno, & drum and bass! They’re also known to be very personal in their lyrics and if you didn’t know both girls also lend their voices onto the tracks.
We begin with “Calm Down” and it was the first one I found on YouTube when I got online that evening! Jahan and Yasmin are kind of known for being very vocal and go heavy in their beats. They definitely don’t “pussy out” of their music or personalities and I love that and I feel like that this one represents that as a whole! It does have some soft moments but I actually like that, it gives the listener a break from the hard and increasing beat you hear throughout, I’ve already fallen in love with it. Second is “TH2C” which means “too high to care” if anybody wanted to know, and this has an exotic sound to it, sort of has a Japanese flare to it in the introduction. At least, that’s what I heard! It definitely has a pop sound, but it’s a fun one so I like it.
Next is “Fortune” that features Diskord, if you heard their last EP the first track “Beggars” also features Diskord on the track, so I’m liking to see that friendship go on into this EP as well! Sadly, I’ve still not heard of their music so I feel bad! This one is pretty chill, the tempo is slower but towards the end of the choruses and the girl’s voices become distorted the sound just sort of changes, but I think it could be the perfect summer anthem! “Love Outta Me” was a song that was released the week before, I hadn’t even heard it until like the day before this EP came out. This one gives me more of a house vibe, but it’s still pretty upbeat. I like it.
The next two songs were the ones that were released as promos. “Team” came out in December? I’m pretty sure around that time. All I remember that it was really cold outside when I heard it on the radio. It’s pretty catchy and almost sounds more pop-y, but I really the bass drop. I think this was our warning that something else was coming! I just didn’t think they’d release a new EP! After that is “Be There” and they just put out the music video of this track, I hadn’t heard it before I watched the video but I really enjoy it! I also loved seeing Jahan and Yasmin in those home videos and the road trips they’re family seemed to take a lot growing up. I also love that it could be a song for the two of them since they’re sisters! The last is “Parachute” and I will say when I heard this, I didn’t exactly like it as much. I was worried because it was like the second song I heard on YouTube after I realized they had released a selection of songs together. My in initial thought of it remains, it definitely has a pop-y sound to it, but it’s very soft and chill, more like a house track. It’s not bad for the second time around.
One thing I always like when Krewella release these EPs is that they’re always so experimental. Music is about evolution and the ladies stick to that motto and I love that! I think “New World” is a good title for this selection of songs since they all have a different flavor. Some have exotic sounds and pop-y vibes. I like this route and all I want now is more! I want to know what kind of sounds we can hear in part two! We’ll just wait out until they’re ready!
Have you heard of Krewella’s new extended play, “New World: Part 1”? What did you like or dislike about it!
Today is a good day, because we are talking about the music coming out of the Netherlands! I find it so interesting that NL is such a hodgepodge of really exciting music! And I was lucky enough to find three acts that all different genres!
The first is a new band Seven Waters. They are a female fronted melodic and progressive heavy metal band, with members Robert Molenaar on drums, Maarten Vloon does keys, Henk Kamermans plays bass, Michiel Leijzer is on guitars with Karen Leijzer is the vocalist. I didn’t find them, they actually found me on Twitter and followed me back in 2014, but now they don’t follow me. I haven’t forgotten about them and usually kick myself for not talking about them on here for their native homeland.
Second is R3hab, who is a DJ that’s been around a long time, he’s been making music sine the late 90’s, been working with other Dutch DJs like Hardwell (who I mentioned in 2015) and Afrojack. He mainly plays the subgenre house. I actually have a love/hate relationship with house music in general, but I do find myself loving a lot of his music though.
Lastly is an R&B artist by the name of Natalie La Rose. I heard about her in late 2015, but didn’t find out that she was Dutch until November 2016 after the song “The Right Song” by Tiesto and Oliver Heldens. Sadly I’ve only heard her music periodically, I remember hearing “Somebody” playing on the radio for a few months before fading out but I haven’t heard anything else from since early-2016.
I’m running out of Dutch music to talk about on Tune Tuesday, if you know of any artists or bands that you think I should share on here, let me know!
