OOTD: Faux Blue Jeans!

Happy Monday!

Yesterday on Twitter I made the announcement that I wasn’t going to post this today because I wasn’t feeling good but then later on I realized that on Saturday I celebrated 6 years of blogging on here and I had no post for it… Even I’m a little disappointed with myself!

Last Friday, my mom and I took a trip to see my nana. I hadn’t been able to hang out with her like one-on-one since the end of April, so we’ve been needing some time to chitchat. It was a lovely visit with even better weather! So I was able to do another OOTD but since I’ve stopped publishing on the weekends, you’ve had to wait a bit to see my outfit! In my last one, I mentioned that I had another pair of capris to show off and earlier in the week I went back to Walmart and purchased two shirts this time!

I’ll go from top to bottom. I got another superhero shirt! It is gray with various different superheros on the front with the word “Marvel” in big, bold, white letters that you cannot see thanks to my arms! I think I just buy these hoping to have at least one X-Men on it, but I don’t think I got lucky here. Honestly, the only ones I recognize on the entire shirt is Iron Man and Thor. I was really struggling to figure them out, there was no asking my mom. Apparently she can’t tell between “green” and “yellow”! Oh, in case anybody’s counting, this is my third Marvel shirt!

Now about my pants! The day we found these, I was a bit dumbfounded because I’ve had leggings that looked like jeans before. They were tight and the pattern was made so it looked like they’ve been worn forever and you had torn it to pieces! The difference was it was easy to put on and remove which is great for any wheelchair user! Unfortunately, they did have one downfall, the material use was rough and I didn’t actually wear them very much!

These are completely and 100% different as they are smooth to the touch on both top and underneath! They sort of remind me of “basketball pants” as my mom and I called them back in the day! They are sleek and soft, which is awesome for my legs! They retain heat just like regular jeans! They look like jeans and that’s what seems to freak my mom and I out, like where were these when I was in middle school?! My only negative thought about it is they are not skinny on my calves but hopefully I’ll find some others that are snug around that area!

What do you think of my outfit of the day? Yay or nay? What do you think of faux clothing garments, like jeans? Do you think they can become a thing?

DIY: The Glitter Egg Tree!

17522975_1448139311917061_8121698629694561019_n

Hello!

If you remember the previous DIY post about the plastic egg wreath we made, a couple of weekends later my Aunt Laurie came down with more plastic eggs and fake grass to do another project I found on Pinterest (that I can no longer find) around the same time I found the first one. My nana wanted to do the wreath, whereas I wanted to do the egg tree craft! I need something bright and a little bit obnoxious in my room so I thought this would be perfect!

17522815_1448145168583142_2690695085745427322_n

What you will need for this:

  • 4′ Cone
  • 7’x7′ Square Platform
  • 2 Bags of Plastic Eggs
  • 1 Bag of Fake Grass
  • Glue
  • Paintbrush (optional)

The first thing will need to do is build your platform for your tree to stand on, at first we weren’t going to do this, but my nana started to think about how the eggs were supposed to stay up on the cone, so she cut out a small square from part of our smaller form boards that we don’t use as much anymore. My nana calculated that it is seven inches on both sides. Since our luck with tracing comes in handy, I had her hold the cone in the middle of the square and I traced around it so that we had a better idea of where to place the glue and eventually put the cone on top.

17523226_1445826138815045_2538800149295110786_n17884158_1448134618584197_5331703753439430477_n17883733_1448134851917507_3692723156162829422_n

After that, we left it to dry.

Next we decided put the fake grass along the bottom of the cone. I chose purple grass (of course!) and we used what we had with the wreath; I put a couple of teaspoons of Elmer’s glue into a small cup and painted each corner at first with a bit of the glue, we then dropped a couple of balls of the grass and if I didn’t want to put my toes into the glue I borrowed a colored pencil and helped get them in place!

17522975_1448139311917061_8121698629694561019_n

The next visit we attempted the egg part, which proved to be a disaster for us!

In the original directions it tells you to use regular glue, like Elmer’s and with every layer you flip the egg on its other side. So like we started placed them on the actual platform and grass, this wasn’t so bad for the first four eggs. By the time we got finished, several were coming loose and the ones that wanted to stay in their place, couldn’t I guess, I tried to place them together but a couple were a little too close to the point with any motion, they started falling down off the entire thing. It was very frustrating for us! We finally got everybody to agree after my nana kept gluing them back on.

17884166_1448147365249589_6973037837060192185_n17757168_1448147361916256_950482655845107176_n17883607_1448148325249493_5156167722980283350_n

Some were place inward in the beginning like the pictures on the original, but then we just started laying them in front of the cone hoping that would be better, but it wasn’t. And then we moved onto the second level and it was the worst thing ever! Everything we did, the eggs would just fall. We put them in right, where the tips would be in the center of the bottom row. It was just the glue that wasn’t letting us move on to the next one.

17796661_1450534101677582_6389889077964259159_n17862454_1450534218344237_9192963525085387804_n

Unfortunately, my nana and I were not the ones who finished it. When my nana was in the hospital, she had Aunt Laurie and Uncle Mike finish both the tree and a wreath that she had done (the eggs were falling off on that as well!) so I don’t know much of what they did, but it kind of looks like everything is in the same sequence. I was told that they had used the hot glue gun to finish both projects so hopefully now we won’t have any little strays anymore!

The only thing we might have to is put the grass in the blank spots and then it will officially be done. I still don’t know where I would put it, but I’ll find a place for it somewhere in my room!

OOTD: Gray + Pink

18386789_10202903824154709_1940584092_n

Howdy!

I have been dying to do this outfit post for like three weeks! Our weather has been jacked up lately, in four days alone we got over 8 inches of rain! Thank god for my patience! On the day I wore this, my mom had mentioned like the day before that the temperature was going to be around 80 degrees and that instantly made me happy, because that meant that it should be around the upper 60’s in the morning, appose to the previous mornings of visiting my nana where it’s been so chilly! I’ve had to go back to wearing both my shawl and socks 😦

Technically the whole outfit is new, I haven’t been able to wear this shirt yet. It is just a plain gray shirt, so there’s nothing funny or cute written on it like everybody’s used to seeing me in, but it’s still nice though! My only negative note about it is the fact that the neckline is huge! It completely falls off my shoulder but that’s happened so much in my lifetime that I’m not really bothered by it anymore. My parents are a totally different story, which is the reason the pictures I have of it look halfway decent because my mom fixed the shoulder beforehand! If I remember correctly, I think the shirt was like $3.50 or around that price. I don’t remember if it was on clarence.

Now this is the part that I’ve been really excited about, because recently not only did I buy a summer dress for my sister’s Bridal Shower coming up this month, I also bought myself some new capris! I have a love/hate relationship with these types of pants mostly because I’m expecting them to cut off around my knees or at least the edges of them but majority of the time they come up to my shins. Only a small fraction of my skinny legs are exposed which is fine! The hole for legs is a little air-y but I think it makes them look fun! They actually fit me very well, they’re not pushing into my stomach or back yet, so that’s a good sign!

The main reason why I bought them were because they looked so spring-y and you know how much I love anything floral. I’m really trying to buy more bright colored clothes lately and I’m pretty sure this is a good start into the late spring or early summer season! I really love the design, the different shades of greens and pinks together. The roses are so pretty! I love the baby blue in the background color, it just catches your eye more than the pink does I think. Despite the shortness, they look very casual but yet professional looking too!

What do you think of this OOTD? Yay or nay? What is your favorite casual outfit?

Tune Tuesday | Canada ’17

14237512_995656560543927_3521199072458955009_n

Hey!

Welcome back to week two and it’s all about Canada!

I am very excited about talking about the variation of Canadian music today! We’ve got a little pop and some electronica in the mix! Also, people seem to think the French language would only appear for week five: France, but if you didn’t know this, but there are a few countries that have French as part of their official language. So you’ll be getting a taste of it in this post too!

First off we have Alessia Cara! I think she is amazing despite the fact when I first heard her song “Here” I figured she would be a one-hit wonder. I know, even I’m furious with myself! Her 2016’s “Know-It-All” has done a very good job lately, cracking out the hit like “Scars To Your Beautiful” at the end of the year that was about self-esteem and accepting who you are. She has such a sweet voice that you do not believe she’s basically 20 years old! I thought she was like 16-17 when I first saw her.

Second act is Shaun Frank. If you don’t listen to a lot of dance music then you’ve probably never heard of Shaun. Unfortunately, I’ve only heard of two or three tracks but they’ve mostly had an interesting, chilled beat with some good vocals! I recently found on YouTube were these live versions of his songs “La La Land” with Delaney Jane and “Let You Get Away” featuring Ashe. I love both of them, but I really wish they would release that version of “Let You Get Away” mostly because of the saxophone. Who knew that was used in the original? Or was it?

My last is a duo by the name of Lydia&Sebastian. They are the ones who mostly sing in French, which is perfectly fine! I actually like it this way, it’s fun! They do have a few songs sung in English, but majority of their music is in French. I don’t know a lot about them, but from the songs that I have heard they have a more chilled out vibe in their music, I would categorize them in the modern adult, they’re not too pop-y in an obnoxious way! They’re really interesting!

How are we liking the artists featured on Tune Tuesday so far? If you have any suggestions for music in 2018’s lineup, let me know!

Book Review: Me Before You by JoJo Moyes

I don’t know how in the world I did it, but I managed to finish two books in April! It was a triumph for me considering I haven’t read an awful lot since probably October when I realized getting through the third Harry Potter book was a no-go.

I had started Me Before You back in August as it says on my Goodreads. Thank god that it keeps track because even I don’t know what I actually started reading it! I knew about the book itself from all of my blogger friends and they were going back and forth between loving it and absolutely hating it, and then the film adaption came out and there was a big backlash that came afterwards with0 the whole disabled community, they weren’t so pleased with the actors! I was on fence about the whole thing and so I wrote a blog post back in November called “What’s The Point Of Acting?” that explained my reasons for keeping in open mind for able-bodied actors playing characters with different disabilities.

The story is about Louisa Clark, the ordinary girl who lives a simple life in England, who in the beginning works at a coffee shop while she lives at home with her parents, granddad, younger sister and nephew. She is in a seven-year relationship with Patrick, a man obsessed with fitness. After losing her job, she goes to find another job and the only one she seems to find that isn’t too bad is working as a caregiver to a severely disabled man by the name of Will Traynor.

Will Traynor was “the perfect guy” to some standards. He traveled and did everything that he wanted. He was also a partner at a firm and in a relationship with a beautiful girl Alicia but one day he loses it all when the accident happened and he became a quadriplegic, who was now stuck in a wheelchair with 24/7 care; the man who could do things for himself now had to depend on other people for the most intimate things.

Somehow these two’s lives would change forever, for the best or worse depending on how you looked at them.

One of the things that I applaud for the author, JoJo Moyes for doing is giving the reader all of the information they would need to get a semi-understanding what goes on for a caregiver to somebody like Will. We’re not easy to take care of, sometimes our families aren’t strong enough to lift us and they need help to do things like getting us in and out of our beds, wheelchair, etc. I say “we” even though not everybody is the same, I am able to scoot myself around on the floor but I cannot put myself back on the bed like I used to. I can’t even give myself a proper shower and wash my hair like others can, my mom has to help me for those types of things. So in certain parts, I could definitely relate to Will’s attitude towards life.

The other point of the story is whether or not you should be able to end your life. I think that’ll always be a hard subject to talk about, whether it’s caused by bullying or if you in Will’s shoes and you have to live out your life in a wheelchair, never being able to do the things you loved doing before this happened. I will be honest, this is a touchy subject for me as well because I have been suicidal in the past. I’m not as open about it, because I feel like I would never do it despite having those strong thoughts. Sadly those ideas still live deep in my mind.

I see Louisa and Will’s family point of views on the topic, and at times I will pulling for Louisa’s ambition to try to change his mind, but as my mom and sister were discussing one day, if a person is very depressed and suicidal, and if the first time they don’t succeed that doesn’t mean they don’t have a plan B. Sometimes people don’t feel like their situation isn’t going to change, that is their decision on what to do next. It should be a respected thing, they’re not being cowardly, they just don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel and for a long time I didn’t either, but somehow I lost those thoughts and began to live and love my life.

I hope I haven’t offended anybody with those two paragraphs (I probably have) but I figured since I was going to this review I would decide to unleash all of my thoughts I had while reading this book. Now I can finally watch the film!

Have you read “Me Before You” yet? What did you like (or didn’t like) about it?

Album Review: “Memories…Do Not Open” by The Chainsmokers

17098501_1420925944606458_233561629857129352_nLast month was a semi good month for music, the new releases were even better! I had a better time with finding good singles, but nothing made me more excited than when my favorite duo The Chainsmokers released their debut album “Memories…Do Not Open,” after so long they finally released a bunch of unreleased music and it was glorious! I knew when they had announced that they were going on a big ass tour I figured something really big was going to happen and looks like I was right!

The Chainsmokers is made up of two very strange dudes! If you listen to their radio show on Sirius XM BPM then you will understand what I mean! Alex and Drew are absolutely hilarious! If you’ve been living under a rock, they’ve been winning awards left and right, like a freaking GRAMMY for “Best Song Of The Year” with Halsey! In 2016, they put out five different singles! My favorites are still “Don’t Let Me Down” with Daya and “Inside Out” with Charlee!

Let’s get on with the review, shall we?

One thing about the guys is that every song is different, not every song has a bass-y drop but I think that’s a good thing. When I first heard “The One” I was a bit sad that it was so loose; it’s slower but it has a nice groove but other than that, it’s a bit boring to start off an album and I feel really bad saying that! Now I love “Break Up Every Night” it is a little bit uppity, almost sounds like a pop-rock song than EDM! That’s what I like about music lately, everything is colliding together and nobody is staying into one genre anymore! Go Rebels! The tempo does increase as it heads into the choruses but it mostly stays pretty mild throughout but it’s good! Third is “Bloodstream” and this is one of my favorites! It has a nice and easy introduction with only a piano and it mostly stays in the mellow sound. It doesn’t feature another artist, but I think the female’s voice you can hear in the background is Phoebe Ryan, who collaborated with their track “All We Know” last year!

Next is “Don’t Say” and it features and starts with Emily Warren, and I really like it. Despite having a very tame sound to it, it does have a more of a chilled out, bass-y vibe! So if you like those kind of tracks then you’ll love it! I also love that ending has Emily and the guys just acting all goofy after the music has faded. When I first heard it, I thought somebody had hacked into my laptop until I heard the guy’s voices and then I realized everything was fine! “Something Just Like This” was featured during the promos for March Madness games, which I loved and if Butler wasn’t playing as good I had that playing in my head the whole time! It features British band Coldplay, which shocked me! I’m used to hearing female singers in their songs, so this was something new but I felt a good choice. I know a lot of people don’t like it because it sounds too much like “Roses” but if you loved that beat, then you get a second opportunity to hear it in another way!

Emily Warren is featured on this next one, “My Type” and I don’t know why but I always think it’s somebody different since her voice is so soft and low in “Don’t Say” this one her voice is allowed to bloom and you actually feel her personality in the song. I could have needed this one when I was in high school, but I think I can still use it! The next is “It Won’t Kill Ya” with Louane, another artist that I am not familiar with but she has a very pretty voice! I really like this song, I think it would be a good trailer track to use. The sound has an ominous vibe to it and Louane makes it every better! I also fucking love the drops too! And if you read my blog, you know I don’t normally use the F word unless it is needed–it is definitely needed!

The single that let the world know that The Chainsmokers weren’t going to fit into the normal EDM box. “Paris” is so good even though it is played so much in the last two months that it’s becoming a bit annoying so I’ve had to decrease my daily intake  just so I don’t grow to hate it. I like the chill sound and if you’re having a suck-y time and you want something to relax to, this is it! The female singer in the background is once again Emily Warren!  Next is “Honest” which stays out in spoken word before breaking into song, but in the musical sense so don’t freak out! What I really like about it is that the guys are writing about their lives and experiences and you hear it throughout the entire album, but I think the bouncy music overpowers and everybody just likes it for that, which is fine but I love the honesty in the lyrics for this track!

The last three songs start with “Wake Up Alone” featuring singer Jhene Aiko and it is a light song, great drop, nothing really special about it but the entire song is another that if you’re in need of something softer but has a good rhythm this is for you! “Young” is sort of like “Break Up Every Time” where it has a more pop-rock type of sound! I think it is an interesting beat, because the different elements you can hear within it mesh well, nothing is overwhelming and it’s great! The last one kind of threw me for a loop because it features country duo Florida Georgia Line, since these guys have a few tour dates with the Backstreet Boys this summer, nothing should surprise me anymore! Anywho, the track is called “Last Day Alive” and it has a strong electronica sound to it, which will definitely freak out their die hard fans (mostly talking about FGL fans!) but I find it very unique because you can hear the EDM sounds but it does have its country notes too. I don’t necessarily know if I care for the auto-tone but like I said it’s unique so I can deal with it!

I think the guys were smart to release a couple of their softer songs throughout 2016, especially with the success of “Closer” and “Paris” of how slow their tempos were, fans seem to see and like the change in The Chainsmokers sound. They weren’t about big bass drops in all of their songs and it keeps them different from the pack! Of course people will think they’re getting too mainstream because of the radio plays on the pop stations but screw them! I think what they’re doing is awesome!

What do you think about The Chainsmokers’ first album? Yay or nay? What are your favorite song(s) by them?

Tune Tuesday | Australia ’17

16508677_1380940248636968_5477214252135156729_n

Hi 🙂

So we are starting off the musical summer with Australia! The Aussies have a wide array of music, a lot of rock music as we’ve seen in the previous years of talking about it on here! Last year I had plans on talking about AC/DC but I somehow talked myself out of it and decided to wait until this year to use them. I remember of leaving the band in my “tag” box so it’s haunted me ever since!

One thing that I find fascinating is that not a lot of people generally know where they’re favorite music is from, like I had mentioned last week about Seether coming from South Africa, not a lot of people know that so whenever the older generation like my parents (and aunts and uncles) learn that AC/DC is also from another country it usually blows their mind! To me, it’s fun because we all assume that a singer who has a great English voice must be American! So whenever this happens I usually have fun decoding the barrier!

Unfortunately, I don’t listen to a lot of AC/DC on my own! It’s usually whenever I’m around my mom that I have no problem of listening to them and she’s the one that tends to ask me if they’ve released any new music, but that’s an every music act kind of question with my mom, because she likes all kinds of music just like her oldest daughter! I do remember listening to the album they released either early 2016 or late 2015, I can’t think that far back but I did check it out. I don’t think I ever finished it or else I would have done a review on it if I had!

In these Tune Tuesday posts, I like to have an oldie and newbie; you can get a good mixture of people together checking out something that they use to listen to but also find a new act and figure out some kind of relationship there too! I think it’s fun so that’s why I’ve included another band called Awaken Solace! They’re a symphonic metal band, you should know how I feel about that genre as a whole! They’re “new” mostly because they only have one other released album, while still working on their second called “MYTHANDRIEL” to hopefully be out later this year!

Always looking for more Australian music! If you have suggestions for 2018’s lineup, leave them below!
