REVIEW | Supergirl

I think I should mention this before we even start this review. I’m going to be VERY honest with this so no if you disagree with me that’s fine, just keep it to yourself.

I’m still slightly confused why I decided to record this Monday night. I hadn’t heard much about it, only that Claire Holt was up for the main role and Jenna Dewan-Tatum was going to play Lois Lane’s sister Lucy Lane on the show. I didn’t think I would watch it after what happened when I watched Man Of Steel for the first time. If you want to know what that’s about just read this. I didn’t have any expectations for it and I decided to look at that as a good thing and see what all the fuss was about and I’m glad I did since that’s what everybody is talking about the day after!

I hope I don’t give too much away, but it’s about a young girl named Kara Zor-El who is a cousin of Kal El, aka Superman. She was sent to look after him just before their home planet was to explode. She has all of the same powers as Superman, but after Krypton was destroyed her shuddle was thrown off course and she was trapped in space. When she did make it back to Earth, the world already knew of Superman and his powers so he sent Kara to live with a foster family. She decided to become a normal person, so she is somebody’s assistant at a big newspaper company. She only breaks her normal life to save her sister Alex and other passengers on board a plane that’s about to crash, and after that everybody finds out they have another superhero on their hands. Not everybody is happy about it of course! I’ve decided to leave it like that, a little cliffhanger!

First thing, the whole storyline isn’t that bad. There were a lot of things in the pilot episode that I liked, but of course I also had a lot that I hated about it too! When I first heard about the show, I thought Supergirl? She’s going to be a teenager, baby sister to Superman. I thought she was going to be a lot younger, around 15 or 16 years old and had a lot of knowledge about Krypton and their families and basically save the world right along Kal, but like always I was wrong! She’s my age and living a normal life. Which is fine, but she’s a 24 year old woman not a girl. What I was looking for were the younger years of when she was busy adjusting to life on Earth not being a protection for baby Kal like she was supposed to, how was family life like after seeing her home being blown up? How did she control her powers? What was it like with her and older sister Alex like, especially when Alex was recruited into that agency? And maybe we’ll see that later on in the season, I doubt it since the story is pretty big without it.

I understand that there are big differences between the superhero films converting into TV shows, most importantly the ways of special effects. I had to readjust to it when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered on ABC (and I know it’s not right to compare Marvel and DC Comics but at some point we all do!) the funny thing was, the special effects used in that show doesn’t necessarily look computer generated, it basically look real in almost every scene. So when I was watching this show, I felt as though it was corny. I’ve seen a lot of shows that use big effects and I have to say this was my least favorite out of every show. Every time they would go to show Supergirl flying and fighting scenes would be WAY too fast and I wasn’t like excited to see her in the whole rescuing frame of mind. It almost went too fast, the whole show and maybe it was because I was watching it through my DVR and I don’t know.

I don’t really have an opinion on the cast except for Laura Benanti as a villain role? Perfect!! I am seriously so stoked to see her as the ultimate evil person to this new superhero. I know a LOT of people watched the first episode and apparently liked it, but I was unimpressed. However I am going to watch the second episode next Monday. I want to see what happens and see if things can get better or not.

Okay, your turn! What do you think of Supergirl?

Seen & Heard | October

shHappy Halloween!

Last month I wasn’t in the mood to watch anything it seemed. I’m happy to say October was the total opposite. It took me a bit but I finally started finding different movies, specials, and TV shows to keep me occupied at night.

There’s nothing better to watch in the month of October is horror films right? Well, I’m not a horror kind of girl. So movies like Beetlejuice and Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders have worked perfectly for me! Unfortunately those have been the only Halloweenie films I’ve been recorded lately! I’ve been trying to find Zombie Island of the special Scooby-Doo films, but no luck. However I did find Witch’s Ghost that’ll be on tomorrow morning on my birthday! Besides it being October and the wanting to watch something spooky, we recently had the infamous “Back To The Future” day, Dr. Emmett Brown takes Marty and Jennifer to 2015 from 1985. I’ve been trying to finish the first and second films since the 21st. Did anybody watch Jimmy Kimmel the night of? That was so unbelievably cool!

As far as other movies I’ve watched or recorded this month, there’s this movie Lucy, with Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman. When I first saw the trailer for this film, I was like “ooh, this looks awesome!” It was more so cool! It’s a bit hard to explain what it’s about and what is going on with this character “Lucy” but any movie where Scarlett becomes this powerhouse, you can’t deny yourself to it! I’ve been trying my hardest to get my dad to watch it because he’s also been looking forward to it too! Another film I’ve been looking forward to watching was from a book I’ve been wanting to get, it’s called Still Alice with Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, and Kristen Stewart. I already had high expectations for this movie even though I’d never read the book, this was so great! I didn’t necessarily cry like I thought I would, but I thought Julianne Moore deserved an Oscar for this role and the next morning my mom told she did in fact win an Oscar for it! I watched both of these movies in the same morning!

Mid-October, a little bit before my family came down for the weekend our movie channels had a free weekend of both HBO and Cinnemax. We already have HBO so it was nice to have like five extra channels of basically the same films that HBO plays, still patiently waiting for the day Fifty Shades of Grey show up on HBO. It’s been on the Demand previews as new releases on HBO, still haven’t watched it. While we had these other channels I recorded only a couple of movies in the four out of five days, Take The Lead, Transformers, and Focus. I L-O-V-E Take The Lead so much! It’s just another excuse to see Jenna Dewan-Tatum dance again honestly! A couple of days before I taped the first Transformers, Spike premiered the second installment Revenge Of The Fallen and since I have somehow missing that, I had to tape both of them. The first Transformers film is the only one my nana hasn’t seen yet! I’ve actually watched it less than five times since I got started on them. I officially have all the Transformers movies on my DVR too!

And lastly, I’m actually a small fan of Amy Schumer. I can tolerate her, there are a LOT of comedians now that I cannot stand, comedy now has changed in a lot of ways over the past few years. I have trouble getting into comedy movies because I don’t get the humor. My sister is the type of person where she’ll laugh at anything. She will find vines and snapchats and they might be the randomest things ever and she’d just laugh her butt off and I’d be giving her a weird look. I love the Live at wherever shows and I saw that she was finally having one at the Apollo and I knew I was going to miss it because it premiered the same night my family was down so I recorded instead. I was home that Sunday and I watched it that night. It was actually pretty hilarious but that crowd sucked. That ending was the best I’ve ever seen though! Oh my god, too funny!

I haven’t reviewed as much as I thought I would, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been listening to new music. I reviewed Selena Gomez new album Revival earlier this month. I still like that about the same as the first time I heard it. I still need to finish listening to Demi Lovato’s new album Confident but the one that actually weirded me out a bit was MGK’s second album General Admission. It’s pretty good and I listen to VERY little rap nowadays, but I was really impressed with it. Adele’s new song “Hello” is absolutely gorgeous! Hopefully next month I’ll do more reviews!

OOTD: Bloody Nails

Howdy!

So much for only four posts this week. Every time I feel like I don’t have enough I tend to find something to add later on in the week. You get this one today and two others tomorrow! As for the month of November, I’m still trying to figure out posts to add.. hopefully you’ll like them!

Forgive me, I don’t like taking my pictures while inside houses but since the weather outside continues to get colder if I want to keep doing these types of posts, majority of them will have to be taken indoors. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours at my nana’s house, this is what I wore. The pants you’ve probably seen before. I got these at Charlotte Russe for Christmas last year. The top is from Wal-Mart, it was actually purchased by my sister for herself but unfortunately it doesn’t fit her as she thought it would. My mom hates it because of the wide neckline, so it falls right off my shoulders. I like it though, its comfortable and tight around my arms which is perfect for this weather. Technically this is my first time wearing a sweater for the season! Another feature I like about it is the buttons on the sides of my hands. I like little details whether it’s on my hands or feet, I don’t care.

I also got my toe nails painted too! My nana didn’t want to paint her nails so it was just me this time. I recently purchased a few autumnal nail polishes at Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago. I think I should have went with the orange since it’ll be Halloween tomorrow. I’ve had that “Unbreakable Heart” screaming for me so decided to go with the red. The color looks like deeper in the bottle, but they look pretty for only having one coat on them. I’ve been calling them my bloody nails. If I don’t get to dress up for tomorrow, at least my nails will be done!

What do you think of my outfit and nails?

DIY: The “Boo!” Sign

l4navkl1fm8orr21561i2u3mjhk7glpx

Howdy!

Well now we’re getting down to the wire of getting Halloween decorations out for the house, fun costumes for the whole family to wear and candy for the trick-or-treaters, At the end of this week it’ll be Halloween like legit and I’ll probably be tucked up into my room watching Halloweentown eating candy we don’t give away to our neighbor kids.

I haven’t done a DIY post in so long that I thought it wouldn’t happen again until Christmas. This season has been a little different for everybody I think. From late September to the beginning of November, my nana and I usually decorate pumpkins. I’ve been looking forward to glittering up a pumpkin for a while! I’ve explained in my other posts that my mom has bought a couple of pumpkins to use as decorations for our front porch. Now we have six of them and I’m not allowed to glitter them! So I’ve had to find something else to DIY for Halloween! At the beginning of October, I was involved in a blogger chat hosted by Jenn and the theme was Halloween/autumn DIYs and after that chat was over I went on Pinterest and I found so many crafts I wanted to do that I was a bit overwhelmed! After looking through for inspiration the next day I went to Wal-Mart with my folks and I purchased three wooden letters: B-O-O.

Since my Aunt Laurie and Uncle Mike came down the other weekend, my nana and I thought maybe we could get them to agree to do some pumpkins with us or help us with the letters instead. We didn’t get any pumpkins but we did have some fun doing the sign though!

If you want to do what we did, here is what you will need:

  • Newspapers
  • Paper plates
  • Wooden letters
  • Glue
  • Spongy brushes
  • Glitter (black and orange)
  • Foam Board (optional)

Now I have to say there were a couple of things different from how my nana and I usually do our DIY projects while we’re both in our wheelchairs. Well, the day we did this she was trying to learn how to work her new laptop, so I got to be on the floor for the first time doing a craft and I felt so comfortable! It’s hard work to support not only upper half of my body in the push wheelchair, but my neck as well! I didn’t have much pain this time around because I didn’t have to worry about the seat moving on me everytime I moved my legs. It’s hard being disabled and using your lower limbs as hands and keeping your posture at the same time. I made it though!

Okay, let’s get done to business! My Aunt Laurie laid out the newspapers out on the floor and helped me with the glue, unfortunately I couldn’t squeeze the container and put it on the sponge brush. I’m pretty sure I would have fallen over if I had done that! I don’t remember whose idea it was to get these sponges but they were a genius! The handle was perfect for me to grip and I used it like a normal paint brush and brushed glue across each letter. Once I got a section covered I put the brush off to the side and Laurie or Mike would give me the bottle of glitter. We had the mini bottles of glitter that came in different colors and at first I left the lid on it but I was having some trouble with covering the area with glue on it before it dried up. Each letter was placed on a paper plate that way if any excess glitter came out we could (try) put it back into the container. After we were finished covering the whole letter we tipped it on its side and let the excess run off. Laurie tried to recover most of the areas that were now naked. After each letter was done we put them on the side of the newspaper to dry.

We couldn’t find any wood boards so Mike purchased a fairly large foam board. I was told that he was going to use a section of it to create a stand for it. At first we didn’t know if it was going to work because the “O’s” didn’t want to stay in their spots especially the first “O” it kept wanting to slide off. Poor Mike had to put his finger on it for almost half an hour. I’m not sure what kind of glue he used because I don’t think it was the same we used with the glitter. The other two letters weren’t too bad so that was good! However, when we put all three on the stand we thought it needed something. I forgot to get an exclamation point, but honestly I don’t remember seeing one with the others! At first we were going to take a small area of the foam board and use a pin to connect it together and glue it into the stand itself, but Mike made a whole exclamation point to glue onto the board . So I glittered it orange to keep up with the Halloween theme! After I finished throwing the glitter on it, I decided that I wanted to try to put the glitter back into the container. I fold the sides to make sure the excess glitter went in the middle of the plate and hoped for the best. Majority of it did make it inside the bottle the rest went out to the sides. I even put the lid back on and locked it.

Not bad for my first try I must say! This was so much fun to do, I think my aunt and uncle enjoyed it too. At least I hope they did! So this is what we did.

What have you created for autumn or Halloween?

Favorite Halloween Candy!

10177942_634270400015880_1458517185019355307_n

Howdy!

This post was inspired by a fellow blogger friend of mine, Missamrunaway and her blog post ideas for autumn! We are getting ever so closer to one of my favorite holidays: HALLOWEEN! I’ll be honest I loved Halloween as a kid and I love it as an adult, but hated it as a teenager and that was probably because when you’re a teenager you think you’re too old to dress up and go around your neighborhood asking for candy. When I was 21 though, I snapped right out of that and somehow convinced my mom to let us go around our grandparent’s neighborhood as it’s kind of out in the open. I think my mom kind of got a kick of the fact that her daughters wanted to dress up and go trick or treating again. I was a punky ballerina and Blondie was a witch. We walked around with our cousin Kristi too and we all managed to come home with a fairly good amount of candy for all four of us!

I don’t remember going out a lot, because our Halloweens have always been really cold! One year, we lived out along the road with barely any neighbors and it was also pouring down rain that night too, so our mom came up with this idea. She knew how bad we wanted to have candy, so she decided to take an idea from our Easter traditions like hiding the eggs for us to find, but instead of finding painted eggs we had to find the candy that was hidden in our living room. Surprisingly I enjoyed this a lot better because I was always so shy to go up to somebody’s door and say trick or treat. This only lasted for one year but I thought it was pretty clever for my mom to come up with it.

I’m getting a little off subject.. I happen to like a LOT of different candies. I’m a little bit like my dad in a way because I love a lot more fruity/sour candies like he does, but my true love is basically chocolate! I’m going to list everything from favorite to least favorite.

Nestle’s Crunch Bar
I’ve always loved a good crunch bar. From a young kid, we’d get those lunchables from the store and I always the fact that inside the pizza ones there wa a bite size crunch bar. It was hard as a rock, but it was delicious!

Dum Dum Pops
I love suckers! Especially these types of suckers. When my sister and I were kids and would sit in the backseat while our mom and nana would go to the bank, they’d give us each a sucker! We lived for these days I swear! My favorite flavors are: cherry, watermelon, orange, Club Soda, raspberry, and sour apple!

Creme Savers

I came across these a long time ago!! I’ve never been a big fan of the flavor strawberry and cream together. However, either they had a commercial with these babies and I decided to go for it, but I think I think somebody else must’ve shared one with me and ever since I was a little obsessed! I’ve tried to get my mom to find them on CVS a few times over the years but I don’t think anybody sells them anymore.

Trolli Sour Gummi Worms
I love both kinds of gummi worms, but I think the sour ones are my ultimate favorite! I remember getting them as part of my birthday present from one of my favorite evening nurses at Shriner’s and I’ve never been able to get them for my birthday, at least I don’t think so!

Smarties
These are another childhood favorite that I don’t think I’ll ever grow out of, they’re soft and suble. They’re weren’t sour or too sweet, just perfect the way they are.

Hershey’s Kisses:
This is another childhood favorite of mine, but I’d rather have the dark chocolate than the milk chocolate. Blame it on my papaw! It’s his fault, he’s the one that converted me. If I remember correctly he’s also the one that introduced us to the Kisses too! I could be wrong though!

Jolly Ranchers
My dad and I are a big of both life savers and jolly ranchers. I think it’s because they’re a little bit more sour and since their rectangle shaped they kind of last a little bit longer too!

Kit Kat
I am such a fan of Kit Kat’s. I the soft crunch of it the most. I don’t really remember how my love for it started but it might have something to do with as kids my mom would steal all of the Reece’s out of our bags before we even got a chance to eat one and Kit Kat’s were the next best thing?

Starburst
This is another favorite between my dad and I. This is also my go-to while we’re at the theaters! My favorite flavors are cherry, raspberry and lemon!

Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups
I do love Reece’s. I can’t have a bunch of them because there’s chance my mother will steal the bag! I love the whole thing of peanut butter and chocolate together, it’s amazing!

Twix
I love Twix, this was another alternative of a Snickers because I can no longer have those. I actually love the cookie underneath chocolate and caramel. I recently tried the peanut butter one and I have to say, the production company ruined the candy bar! It’s disgusting!

York
I’ll be honest, I haven’t had one of these in a long time but they’re still good. This is another favorite flavor combination of mine: chocolate and mint. This one was started my grandparents on my dad’s side.

M&M’s
I like M&M’s, but mostly the mini’s and I recently tried the crispy kind. It’s like they have a mini version of a rice krispy treat inside of them! I think those were better than any other kind! Except maybe the mint ones!

Ferrero Rocher
These are dangerous little beasts! I had these for the first time either last winter or the year before. One of the women my mom works with offered a three pack to us and I decided to take them. She fed me the first two and OMG! It was so amazing! I really like hazelnuts and chocolate together. I really need to get a package of them soon!

Butterfinger Bites
Do they still make these? I remember the late 90’s I was obsessed with these! And then they messed with the recipe and I’ve had a hard time finding that love for them again.

What is your favorite candy as a kid and/or adult?
