What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.
This week: HIGHWAY
The drive was slow, long, and boring.
It wasn’t what the little boy was used to, his mama decided it needed to be extra quiet from the backseat for her concentrate on the road.
Two little boys sat quietly in their seats; one of them was sleeping peacefully as the other watched the snow fall outside of his fogged up window.
The young mother had been driving for hours because their power and heat had been turned off from not paying her bills on time.
They’ve been doing so good at keeping quiet for her, that she hopes her mother has something sweet to make for them when they get to her house.
THANK GOODNESS this young apparently unwed mother of two boys could reach out to her mother for her kindness in this her hour of need, I like metaphor you’ve incorporated here, the highway on which has been driving for hours on and the highway of life to a better place; the combination can be quite poignant.
Awaiting your responses on my endeavor for this week.
